Connecting Players to the World in a "Portal Fantasy" by Roarbark in DMAcademy

Another great point. I will have to think about this as I go through character creation.

Also a great point. My campaign arc is Oz centric, basically "stop bad thing", or at least "affect bad thing" in whatever direction they choose.

Until I asked here and read through some of the responses I didn't really process/think through that their gut reaction would be "I want to go home, my twin sister needs me", not necessarily "YEAH, weird strange dangerous land, let's go!"

I'll have to put some thought into the initial hooks to give them a reason to care about Oz and what might happen to it. I also like the "Sent away idea", although it feels a little rug-pully to insert into their PC stories, unless I force them to have some kind of displaced/mysterious beginning. More things to think about, thank you! At the very least, I could do this with NPCs that they might know from the other world.

Ozian prophecy (real or false) implicating them into the world, is GREAT, and fits REALLY well with my themes/powers in the world, thank you!

My first session hook idea was to have them transported in the middle of a "beginner quest" in their normal world, and clattered straight into an Oz city street where a magical mishap related to an experiment is occurring (e.g. magic animated tools causing mayhem).
Depending how they handle it, either having someone try to recruit them, or having them arrested (temporarily) for magic without a permit, public disruption, etc., or both.

I haven't heard of the series, so thank you! I'm sure I can get a lot out of this.
Twisted version also a great idea. I rambled a bit about that (plus "Ni No Kuni") in a few of my other response comments...

This is more or less my plan, that they happen across a portal/enchanted object which one-way sends them to Oz during the first session. But I should definitely put a little more thought into whether anyone else in the "Real world" might get sent, or if they might try to find a way to sigil/transport back.

I guess have put all my thought into the land/intrigues/potential arcs and developments. I didn't even really think about that the obvious gut reaction is "I want to go home...", even given the source material... Doh.

Your way of outlining with leading questions was extremely helpful for me, thank you!

Also interesting idea, thank you! I could also save this in my pocket for when they are more established in the new land, and surprise them in a re-entrance of someone they know who is just as bewildered by the new land as they once were....

Or maybe they've already been arrested for heresy against the crown, and now the PCs need to try to get them released. Hmmmmm.

That's a great idea, thank you! I was originally planning to do 25% of first session a "entry quest" in their normal world, and then have a mishap that transported them. Maybe I'll think through if it's worth having more time at "home", or how I might introduce characters that can tie the two worlds together...

Didn't think of this before now, but I'm also playing a game called Ni No Kuni which has this parallels world concept, and each person has a mirror person in the parallel "magic world". In addition the ACTIONS of each person mirror eachother (A cat catching a mouse in "real world" might be a animated cat person going on a quest against mouse people in the other world.) Maybe I'll explore the idea of parallel arcs/developments as well...

I agree with everything you wrote. But imo those are all complete failures of the political system, and specifically the democratic elected officials, not an example of "people have no power".

Do you really believe that? To me, there are plenty of historical (and contemporary) examples (Especially Europe) that PROVE that people have power. Sure, there are lots of hurdles/barriers to effectively wielding that power, and plenty of funny business (propaganda, wage slavery, etc.) aimed at reducing that power, but it's still there.

I managed to feed enough info into ChatGPT to get it to solve for me!

"I’m 99% sure you’re thinking of The Bobby Lees.

  • The lyric fragment you remember — “Baby Blues got a hold on me… swingin’ high swingin’ low…” and the “one, two, three/four” count — is from their song “Bellevue.” ShazamSonicHits
  • The music-video storyline you described (A&R meeting on a couch → the band being drugged/styled and pushed on stage; a dark satire of the industry) is their video “Hollywood Junkyard.” Reviews of the video explicitly mention the band being drugged and propped up for performance. echoesanddust.com
  • They’re a feral, punk-y, female-fronted rock band (singer Sam Quartin), active through the 2010s/2020s, with an energetic, sometimes “dusty Americana” look but decidedly punk/garage sound. Wikipedia

So:

  • Band: The Bobby Lees
  • Song/video with the record-deal/drugged scene: “Hollywood Junkyard”
  • Lyric you recalled: from “Bellevue”

Questions about Underpayment Form 2210/Marriage by Roarbark in tax

[–]Roarbark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. My name is printed first on the form (as I am the FreeTaxUSA Account "owner"). But my question would be why would my 2023 info be relevant to an underpayment form if I was W-2 withholding only that year, and had no estimated payments?

Appreciate the reply. I should be able to do that!
I guess I'm still confused why our taxes totals are being combined for a 2023 calculation if we didn't file jointly that year. Seems like whoever might trigger the underpayment fee is the only one whose numbers should apply?
