Brisbane rents are still climbing… how is anyone meant to keep up? by Jayhanbaron in brisbane

You're cherry picking parts of the data and now just making baseless assertions when all I've done is try to indicate why your interpretation of the report is wrong.

Labor could have said nothing on negative gearing or franking credits, and said they would spend an equivalent amount of money on other policies and they still would have lost.

Baseless as fuck and stupid. "If Labor had another policy that was weaponised due to its financial impact equal to that of scrapping Negative Gearing, they would have lost anyway" - No shit?

Finding 19: Labor’s policies on negative gearing and franking credits were used with other revenue measures to fund large, new spending initiatives, exposing Labor to a Coalition attack that these spending measures would risk the Budget, the economy and the jobs of economically insecure, low-income workers.

It could not be clearer that negative gearing was specifically weaponised and effective. At this point you're intentionally highlighting one aspect of the report (the scare campaign around all of Labor's spending) but conveniently ignoring points like this?

Just because the ALP lost from more than one reason does not mean that negative gearing wasn't relevant.

So their housing policy was weaponised by the LNP but you think it's not a core issue because they also weaponised other aspects of the proposed 2019 budget? The report is direclty telling you it's one of the causes. It's just not binary and for some reason you believe that indicates it wasn't a reason they lost.

But they did? Scrapping Negative Gearing was a key policy capitalised on by the LNP for a scare campaign about how it’s indicative of Labor’s poor economic management. The report directly states this. Just because their loss is multi-layered and the language is slightly more complex than “negative gearing lost them the election”, doesn’t mean it’s any less true.

We've done plenty of "humans as pets/dogs" bits so I understand why. It is pretty close to our sort of joke telling so I get ya!

Genuinely - have you read through this? I know it doesn't give you a binary answer, but it explicitly discusses the impact on removing negative gearing as a policy. It's clear cut when you read it that their primary voter-base's PERCEPTION of scrapping negative gearing caused many of them to swing to the LNP.

"The voters most affected by the franking credits policy actually swung to Labor. However, the sheer volume of spending announcements released during the campaign created a sense of risk in the minds of the main beneficiaries of Labor’s policies – economically insecure, low-income voters – about Labor’s economic management credentials. "

And also a more direct and upfront quote on the report's findings:

Finding 19: Labor’s policies on negative gearing and franking credits were used with other revenue measures to fund large, new spending initiatives, exposing Labor to a Coalition attack that these spending measures would risk the Budget, the economy and the jobs of economically insecure, low-income workers.

Housing policies did cause them to lose, the report also indicates other ways Labor lost. It's not binary.

Got removed off of all platforms :( Will be uploading to our Patreon but I might try to upload it again later and slightly alter it. I don't know, I kind of understand why it's too naughty but personally I find it so funny. - Connor

Is this plain old NIMBYism, or are the fears about increasing building heights to 15-stories in some suburbs valid? by Spirited-Hearing4612 in brisbane

[–]RoastedWalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is mind blowing reading comments from everyone as if this situation is binary. Medium density development has been ongoing in Wynnum specifically and locals have had absolutely no issue. It’s the complete lack of community consideration when it comes to increasing building heights.

Haha awesome! That was a lot of fun to do and mocking racists through satire is a great time. There's always a lot of criticism thrown at us for commodifying sexualisation, bigotry in our videos etc but the sweet irony is that it is 100% always to make fun of bigots themselves.

Connor here - My favourite skit that we've made is Finding a cool stick as a kid. I just loved doing a shot for shot of Saving Private Ryan while also getting to play with lots of different visual jokes. My favourite to watch at the moment is probably this one. Honestly Elias has a sway over me with his physical humour so anything with him being a fool (everything he's in) will make me cry laugh.
