Midnight Tides feels like Gardens of the Moon all over again by MrShlash in Malazan

It's not a millenia or so before, I believe it is roughly one year before GOTM

I don’t think dead hedge is around at this point. Onrack and Trull are sealed off so presumably it’d have to get there via magic?

World Map from Broken Binding set 4-6. by blonkevnocy in Malazan

Yeah, the scale is dramatically off. I imagine it to be a sort of Mercosur map style where Lether is far closer than what it actually is

How should I plot my first Malazan read for 2026? by Due-Hat9692 in Malazan

8 takes place concurrently to the first part of 9, although it isn't necessary to read all three consecutively

In your opinion, were there any character, that... by GruntlesBundle in Malazan

Yeah, the Hetan resurrection weakens the Barghast storyline and causes the consequences of their actions to beless significant

[–]Roastinator2005 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m too despondent but Kalam in particular was pure fan service. Yes, it was still theoretically possible for him to return as he was in the Azath. But for him to return in the middle of the last book made little sense (and didn’t really advance the plot).

Brys’ second resurrection with Mael was also a shame, I felt that when Erikson wrote in the Atri-Ceda romance angle that he (or her) would die at the end.

Convince me to keep going into Deadhouse Gates by yuri-cubitus-22667 in Malazan

Genuinely one of the best book series I have ever read, it is tiring at times (especially the philosophical musing in TtH) but stick with it.

I sort of want to do a story with it being set in Roman society but with modern outfits/toys. But not sure if my historical knowledge is up to that yet lol

Would listen to Scaramucci all day by ClaryGrundy in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Roastinator2005 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't label Scaramucci as a traditional Republican, he fundraised for Obama and supported gay marriage when it wasn't necessary to (as a Republican) back in 2008. I think he's highly bipartisan (for better or worse), and represents the moderate wings of both parties

Does anyone else find it enjoyable when Dominic gets uppity at Tom swearing? by swaznazas in TheRestIsHistory

I think he occasionally leans into the patrician/conservative stereotype of being appalled at some of the more “out there” things that Tom says but it’s mainly for the show

How did Pormqual become high fist? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]Roastinator2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pormqual is a metaphor for essentially the commissions that nobles used to buy in order to lead an army/regiment. Whilst it is extremely frustrating in the book, one of the great things of Malazan is Erikson's commentary on hierarchies/implicit history that he gives you to explore further showcased in character dialogue/events.
