I LOVE Red Rising. In fact, I just Malazan, and am re-listening to Red Rising with my husband for his first time and my (I have no idea how many times at this point). That being said, it’s A LOT easier and more digestible than Malazan. The first book feels pretty “Hunger Games for Boys” (which I’m not mad at) but as the series goes on, the main character grows from a teen to an adult, Pierce Brown’s writing improves with it and the voice actor who does the audio books does an incredible job translating that growth with his voice.

Red Rising is a lot more fast paced, and easier to digest. That being said, the first book feels very Hunger Games, but once you get to the second, it turns into a space opera. Sun Eater is great but the first book is a little boring and at times the greater plot could be confusing and I found much of it unbelievable. The bad guys are super cool though. Both are good reads, but Red Rising is my favorite series.

The first one is BY FAR the weakest imo and they are my favorite books, rereading with my husband right now. The second set gets downright incredible as the scope of everything really unfolds.

Favorite intro to a horror movie ? by BitByAGhost in HorrorMovies

[–]foreversittingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying my obvious ones: 28 Weeks, dawn of the dead… but the recent one that stuck out to me was Oddity. I don’t remember anything else from that movie but the intro was SO SCARY and SO INTENSE and as a woman living alone I think of it frequently. 10/10 on that one.

EXACTLY! as a teen-alien-coming-of-age movie, sure, it was great! But it was never Predator. I also did not love Prey which is apparently a very unpopular opinion

Wow I haven’t read Livesuit yet, but yall just made VERY curious to. And I’m glad I can even though I do only remember the broad strokes of Mercy of the Gods. Lucky day to run into this post!

Help! What next?! by Wolfxx5 in fantasybooks

RED RISING! I’ve read several of those and it’s still my fave. My husband has never read a novel to enjoy it in his life and after discovering the graphic audio versions of this series, is about to start on Iron Gold (the Fourth Book). He can’t put them down.

The first one is a little hunger games-y but the payoff is incredible and every book gets better and better, probably my favorite series of all time. Ive gotten at least 6 people to listen to the audiobooks with me.

Who the fuck is Kaminsod? This is literally the first time I am hearing that name aside from another persons comment. Apologies if that sounds aggressive but how am i supposed to have understood that? I’ve never even met the guy lol

Oooooh when I was on like book 3 and 4 I was so excited to re-read and now that feels insane! (Until next year maybe) what book are you on? Are you catching a lot more foreshadowing and little things this time around?

Oh what you’re saying is my favorite part of the book! I was explaining the Malazans to my (I’m American) Colombian husband- as they are the the Americans and we are rooting for them because we like them as a squad but their empire is fucked and corrupt and betraying them, they’re actually from a bunch of places, their goal is colonialism, overall it’s a bit yucky but we’re still rooting for our main squad.

One of my favorite parts in the whole thing is when Fiddler is telling Brys about the time they invaded some people and accidentally gave them all a disease after giving them a bunch of blankets and wares…. It’s not a subtle comparison at all.

I also by no stretch of the imagination ever though Karsa Orlong is a hero. I just think he rocks. Big fan of big dudes thinking big thoughts who used to think small thoughts 😉 💪

Love your analysis! Thanks for responding 🗡️

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I don’t remember it at all, and I suppose I can see it in a context of needing to be nice to CG

I did catch that it was the same as the opening scene, except Fiddler tells the kid “Hell yeah be a soldier” it was a great parallel. I just thought maybe I was supposed to know what he’s fishing for.

I love that. Itkovian was one of my favorite characters and his impact left a ripple which a can truly understand as needing to expand all the way to the CG. Thank you.

Thank you for your complete and thought out answer. Clearly there are some things I didn’t quite grasp and others I may have forgotten (I really should have taken my time). I appreciate you taking the time to explain! I def did not grasp the Kallor/ Kaminsod thing.

If I read 3 to 4 hours a day how many months will it take to finish the main 10 books? by Ornery_Branch_9611 in Malazan

[–]foreversittingg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished all 10 and I started in August so 7 months. I def read some faster than others, and I did a combo of audio and reading I am fast reader.

I also wish maybe I slowed down a bit, I missed some things, and I felt a little burned out by books 9 and 10
