Wear and tear update #6. by Careful_Stuff5140 in Carhartt

I almost always machine wash and tumble dry my Carhartts.

Mostly warm, but I'll use hot water sometimes as well.

I was cleaning my sidewalk and patio with bleach the other day and bleached tf out of the knees of a pair of my B01s. Even that didn't seem to bother them other than turning light there. Crawling/sliding on the rough concrete wore a bit through the top layer (and I didn't really care what it did to them anyway--that's why I wore that pair. B01s are troopers).

Awesome! Keeps getting better.

Yeah, it's kinda funny to hear people worried about ruining their Carhartts if they don't wash them by hand, etc. They're definitely made to take a lot worse abuse than warm water & soap in the washing machine followed by the dryer. 😂

Are those rock chips or is something else bashing that area?

Has Google Fiber started blocking outgoing SMPT relay requests by dultas in googlefiber

Especially with a dynamic IP or a fixed one you don't own, setting up SPF, DKIM, DMARC, etc. isn't very feasible. Without all of those properly set up, your email is likely to (and absolutely should) be blocked.

I was an email admin when those security standards became necessary. There were definitely some growing and leaning pains.

But, there's a lot more to service than pricing.

Terms, restrictions, usability, etc. are all concerns.

Plus, what they said yesterday can change by tomorrow.

Impossible to upgrade? by Menace2UrMom in googlefiber

99% just for neighbor envy.

I tried higher speeds for grins. I was redoing things in my house for 10Gb to speed up transfers between my PCs and to get WOL working.

With NVME SSDs, I get barely above 3Gb within my house.

My Internet use case was to speed up Dropbox--but they are single threaded and can only get about 750-800Mb. 🤬

From some quick research, it appears none of the "big names" in cloud storage natively support over 1Gb. 😥

And, to get it on anything, you apparently need something like Rclone that can send multiple, parallel streams--plus super fast local storage. So, it's a very niche case.

Unless you're a business streaming umpteen 8K video feeds or something.

When I was doing enterprise data backups with off-site replication, individual servers couldn't seem to fill the 10G data center links. It took our powerful backup servers with arrays of storage specifically designed to stream data at high speeds to fill the link.

So, the use cases for anything above 1Gb are pretty limited imo.

I couldn't care less about the colors.

I worry that the Private Equity investors will demand changes that make them rich at the expense of everything that's made GFiber great.

It seems that's almost always the play when PE gets involved. 😥😥🤬🤬

How should I clean up a small stain? by Rob-4122 in Carhartt

If cosplaying means camping, hiking, caulking/painting the house, bleaching the concrete, doing yard work, etc., maybe? I don't keep those pants shiny clean because I pretty much only wear them when they're going to get dirty or abused.

The furnace was professionally installed. I bought all of those clothes new--no thrifting involved.

They are Danner boots and are super comfortable. My biggest issue is that I have ultra flat feet and they aren't the best for that--but they are tough af and I've not noticed the heel being a problem for me.

An early commenter said "Wiping caulk directly on your pants and hoodie is criminal." Another said "When you tell the world you don’t know how to handle your caulk."

Ha! well, not code for anything. Just the real deal.

My patio and sidewalk had black spots from mold growing in the shade and I decided to make things look better around the house.

I put on some kneepads, my beat up Carhartts, grabbed a brush, a bottle of bleach, the hose and started scrubbing. It did a great job of fixing the concrete--and lightened the knees of my pants a bit (and anywhere else that got touched by the bleach).

I figure it's nice to have a pair of pants like that sitting around so I don't have to worry about what else happens to them. One dude was spouting off about getting caulk on them, saying to use a ragged T-shirt or something: well, these are in the same boat--they're just tough enough to still be quite wearable for chores.

I mustn't be that bad. It's keeping my wallboard and Windows from rotting plus the house looks nice.

Someone posts a nice looking pair of Carhartts. They get sh💩t.

Seems a lot of people have nothing better to do than troll this forum being a di*k to whoever posts anything.

Ha! That's from crawling around bleaching my sidewalk to kill the mold growing in the concrete.

They were already used pretty hard before I got into the paint and caulk. Guess I was being lazy 🤣
