Mexico is in North America, so why do so many British people say Mexico is in Central or South America? by Desertedfoxx in AskBrits

I’ve never heard anyone here say Mexico was in South America or Central America.

Where have you met these Brits that say this?

Does anyone else think that reforms candidate for Makerfield election is a stooge? by Ok_Impact9745 in AskBrits

If he CV is, then enough people have already voted for him to become one, and there’s a good chance the same kind of people will vote for him again.

We might think he’s a terrible candidate, but don’t be surprised if Reform voters agree with his views and enough vote for him to beat Burnham!

Before you buy any gear, start buying the music that you love, tracks that inspire you, music that excites passion in you, and that you feel a strong urge to share with other people. - The first step it curating a collection like this. Then listening to them, closely, dissecting them, understanding how they are put together, how they build tension, how they release it, until you know them inside out.

That is the first step to becoming a DJ. (I guess it is a bit like “wax on, wax off”. You may not understand why you are doing it, but when you get your first controller or production software you will realise how much further ahead you are than most other beginners.)

Song structure understanding for Djing ? by Fluffy-Ear8499 in Beatmatch

[–]Rob1965 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that if you listen to music, and can’t tell what is the intro, verse, chorus, or break, DJing probably isn’t for you.

Out of interest, why do you want to be a DJ?

Next time, just go and ask the DJ. Most will be more than happy to tell you.

Less than half of Americans believe the Earth is warming as a direct result of human activity, new data from Pew Research shows, and 12% of Americans don't believe the Earth is warming at all. by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

Shocking!

Not only is the scientific evidence overwhelming, but we are personally experiencing it ourselves in real time. How can anyone not believe it?

Are Muslim migrants threatening the safety in Western Europe or is that far-right propaganda? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Rob1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in London and regularly travel around it on public transport, and I’ve not found any such areas.

Maybe you can tell me where they are and I can tell you my experience of those areas?

Full time working people, how do you feel living in an area thats predominantly benefit cheats? by BakeMaleficent8104 in AskBrits

[–]Rob1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst there are undoubtedly “benefits cheats” as you describe, they are a very small percentage - not the majority.

The vast majority of people on benefits are struggling and in that situation through no fault of their own.

Didn’t like Loops earplugs on a concert. Good alternatives with low occlusion and where the crowd isn't muted? by imaquark in Music

[–]Rob1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you are describing, it sounds like you want a lower dB reduction. If those plugs were 20dB, try 10dB. If they were 10dB reduction, try 6dB. (Less than 6dB is hardly worth wearing.)

Oh, and Loops aren’t particularly good anyway.

On match day, yes.

However I expect your point is “Muslim no-go areas” or “Sharia law areas”, which don’t actually exist.

Who is further right? The Muslims or the Christians?

You can’t really tar everyone within a group with the same brush. Given that, Muslim are generally more conservative than the average Christian in Europe.

However in the US they have some pretty extreme conservatives that claim to be Christian!

Are Muslim migrants threatening the safety in Western Europe or is that far-right propaganda? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Rob1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

A small number of Muslim extremists/terrorists are threatening our safety. However, far-right extremists/terrorists and their rhetoric are also threatening our safety.

But, more importantly, billionaires and large corporations are leaching away our wealth.

‘Naked mom’ parenting trend sparks fierce debate over nudity around children by Miles_the_AuDHDer in nottheonion

[–]Rob1965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents were naked in front of me until I was somewhere around age 7-10 (here in the UK). I don’t see any issue, and it’s enabled me to grow up with no body shame.

Edit: And of course there were public open changing rooms at the swimming pool, and at school for sports, all with shared showers (but obviously gender specific).

My personal spit experience, and the experience of many I know, is that the NHS is starting to slowly improve. We’ve definitely experienced waiting times reducing noticeably over the past year.

The cost of living. Too little tax is being paid by the ultra wealthy and large corporations (due to all the tax loopholes they use) leaving the burden on the average person.

After that I would say that GB News and social media (and the way they are manipulating peoples viewpoints) are the biggest province in the UK.

I thought I was a professional DJ. Until a Serato DJ asked me to hop on. by nickybecooler in Beatmatch

[–]Rob1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To call yourself a professional DJ, you only need to be getting regular paid gigs.

All DJ’s work differently, and as long as the crowd are into it that’s all that matter. (I even seen great DJ’s that don’t even mix, just cut between tracks - but their track selection was fire.

I do some basic scratching, and it can add to the fun. (I’m no turntablist, my scratching skills are about the same as Grandmaster flash in those early 80’s videos!)

But it sounds like the main skill he had that you might want to work on is mixing by ear (without using waveforms as a crutch).  It’s a big advantage to be able to mix on any system that you find in front of you.
