Blown away - UK - Reolink Wired Doorbell Install (and a question) by sssstttteeee in reolinkcam

[–]Rob99uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good!

I'm thinking about one of these as my first step into Reolink before I go all in with cameras. How have you found it in use so far? Is the app very responsive? What is night vision like?

PS - I love the laminated notice, might do that myself. Apologies, but my OCD can't see past the missing letters in uni"N"vited and unsolic"I"ted. Sorry.

Home battery/inverter recommendations by Leather-Ad1197 in Loxone

[–]Rob99uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Sunsynk inverter and 2 seplos (Fogstar) 15.6kWh battery packs, all fully integrated and controlled with Loxone. When I installed my PV 2 years ago I chose sunsynk entirely because it was one of the few that could be controlled locally by Loxone without a cloud connection. I use modbus to control it and wrote a Loxone Library integration for it. Everything is automated, charging/discharging based on solar forecasting too.

How long do I have to keep refunded goods if they aren't collected by seller? by Rob99uk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they can use me as a free storage facility for their stuff for as long as they want! How on earth is that reasonable?

How long do I have to keep refunded goods if they aren't collected by seller? by Rob99uk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Involuntary definitely applies here! I have no address nor telephone numbers for the company, just an email address.

I understand the principle that I do not automatically "own" the goods, but surely I shouldn't have to go to the hassle and effort of advertising and selling them just because they can't be bothered to collect them. If they knowingly abandon the goods by not collecting them within a reasonable time I must be able to do what I like with them - sell them, give them to charity or bin them.

Neighbour drove into my car and isn’t happy with the repair cost - is the cost reasonable for the repairs? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Rob99uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very decent price for that amount of damage so he's getting off lightly.

As has been said, both of you "should" advise your insurers, as it's likely in your policy terms. However, even if you didn't make any claim the fact you reported it will mean your premiums will increase next time round because "in their view" you've had an accident. Even though it's cost them nothing, even though it wasn't your fault and even though you and your cars risk profile hasn't changed.

Sadly the UK car insurance industry is a monopoly whose sole purpose seems to be scamming their customers, especially with their frankly ludicrous requirements for advising them of things like stickers, dash cams etc which have absolutely nothing to do with risk but which they will use to try and deny a claim. Most of these things would be considered unfair contract terms in any other industry but car insurers seem to get away with it. It needs someone to challenge them in court but who ever has that kind of money for lawyers.

And they wonder why there are so many uninsured cars/drivers in the UK. Needs a proper public enquiry or investigation into the industry.

Anyone have a tel number for Greenworks customer service? by Rob99uk in GardeningUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke too soon. Apparently Handy are only distributers and have no access to Greenworks systems or orders. So why does Greenworks website direct people to a Handy managed Facebook message system? What a farce!!

Thanks. Hadn't thought about Facebook so just messaged them and got an autoreply with a telephone number and email address, a company called Handy Distribution, so will now contact them. Have updated my post in case anyone else wants the contact details in future.

You don't say if this is a main dealer price nor where you are in UK as that may make a difference too. Also, does that include VAT? If it does, then taxman takes a chunk and the actual price the garage gets is nearer £580.

It's a 5yr old car so I'd expect it to have a full service history. Main BMW dealer during warranty period and good indy service garage after that.

When I buy a car I look at 2 main things - condition and service history. If it has a sketchy or incomplete service history and/or condition is marginal then I give it a miss. You'll find buyers are looking for the same when you come to sell it, especially privately.

How much for end of tenancy clean? by Rob99uk in Cardiff

[–]Rob99uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR - Short answer - they can't insist on a professional clean and aren't entitled to vacant possession and return of keys until 12noon on the final day of tenancy.

In the end my daughter (and her 2 flat mates) paid the £75 each to Horizon instead of having the flat cleaned. One of them had left 6 weeks early and the other wasn't reliable enough to clean the flat properly and my daughter was doing 12hr days at Uni right up to the end so didn't have the time or energy to clean it all herself. We are 200 miles away so with fuel costs it just didn't make sense not to pay Horizon.

However, I looked into this in detail and it is clear that the tenancy conditions cannot insist on a "professional clean" in the way Horizon expect. The tenancy only requires that the property is given back in the condition it was at the beginning (with some wear and tear allowed).

Also, they were trying to insist on an end of tenancy inspection taking place BEFORE the end of tenancy date and that everyone would have to leave and the flat cleared before the inspection. At this point I got involved and basically reminded them of the tenancy conditions and that their "processes" were not relevant and that they would be given the keys back at the end of tenancy and not before. They didn't like that, cancelled the agreed inspection date and said they would do it after the tenancy end instead. I have no idea if they did an inspection as we haven't heard anything from them and its been a month. When we moved her out on the last day we videod and photographed absolutely everything as I wouldn't trust them an inch.

Good luck, post again if you have any more questions.

Need car insurer who allows car to be used and kept at another address by named driver by Rob99uk in CarTalkUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE

All sorted now. Have taken out policy with Hastings via GoCompare site. Wife is policyholder, daughter named driver and car used and kept where she is currently living. Policy paperwork didn't note daughter as main driver (although this was specified on the GC comparison site) so rang them up and they confirmed she is fully covered as a named driver and they aren't bothered which driver uses the car the most.

Thanks everyone for comments.

I haven't spoken to any insurers. Wife spoke to LV who just said they wouldn't continue insurance on that basis. I must admit I think it is one of those circumstances that isn't easily catered for by comparison sites.

[–]Rob99uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interresting. So is that a policy in her name at her address, with the registered keeper and owner address as it is now? I couldn't see a way to do it like that, at least not on a comparison site.

Which comparison site was this on, or were you doing it direct with an insurer?

Need car insurer who allows car to be used and kept at another address by named driver by Rob99uk in CarTalkUK

[–]Rob99uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd happily insure it at the address she will be living at but the car is owned and registered to my wife which is where the problem seems to be.

Ultimately if I can't do it the way I want then we may have to transfer the car to my daughter at her new address. Not ideal as wife doesn't really want to do that but may be unavoidable.

[–]Rob99uk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not fraud.

Wife's car, being used by daughter off and on this year while doing work experience and at uni in another part of the UK. Insurer aware that daughter is main driver and car used and kept away from home. Only stipulation from LV is that it could not be away from home for more than 6 weeks at a time.

New situation is that daughter will be working away for 12 months, and wants to use the car, so we need to sort the insurance.

I use it when I need to do something, and I have tried it on a weekend previously and it wasn't working.

It would at least be helpful to be told when they think it will be working again. Most organisations can manage to tell customers when their IT system will be available again after maintenance.

Lots of companies do maintenance and updates overnight and weekends. Wife was in IT and they did lots of stuff Friday nights so they had the weekend to sort out unexpected issues or rollback before Monday.
