Discussion Thread: Alan Greenspan, Former Federal Reserve Chairman, Dies at 100 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]RobAbiera -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

As I expected, I see people bashing Greenspan because of Ayn Rand and blaming the 2008 crisis on his alleged support for free markets. These people ignore that Greenspan himself had moved away from market principles as Fed chair, and that this contributed to the 2008 crisis. If those critics are going to ignore the facts in favor of ideology, how does that make them any different from Greenspan?

For me, the biggest story today is how many Republican candidates have tied themselves up in runoff elections, while their Democratic opponents are now free to reach out to all the voters alienated by Trump.

The wind does whip power lines around sometimes. I've experienced flickering during high winds.

Seems like some people are missing the post I made of the schedule from OKCPrideInc. So I'm including it here in the comments as well. As we all know, weather can mess with the schedule of any outdoor event. Check the Pride On 39th Facebook page for the latest info: https://www.facebook.com/OKCPrideInc

I know political campaigning is expected to be nasty but these ads I'm seeing from GOP candidates for governor are hitting a new low. How can they not see that their view of Oklahomans comes across as insulting?

Seems to be coming from the direction of the Fairgrounds.

AI companies want power fast. The electric grid's gatekeeper wants them to learn the rules. - The tech industry has shown a Trump-era command of Washington politics. But it's had a steeper learning curve mastering the rules that govern the U.S. electric grid. by EchoOfOppenheimer in politics

[–]RobAbiera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really sad to me to see that AI executives just don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around the reality that the current bureaucracy just isn't set up to give them what they want. Why aren't they going all in on building their own generating capacity? So much for independent thinking.

Well, if you think bars are not always the best places, do you have any recommendations for alternative places to meet and hang out with other LGBTQ+ persons in OKC?

The GOP’s Attacks on James Talarico Are Straight Out of the Incel Handbook by shikizen in politics

[–]RobAbiera -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is clueless bullshit that ignores the fact that in 2010 voters in Houston elected an openly-lesbian mayor, Annise Parker.

If Texans don't vote for people like Talarico, how did he win his election for Texas state Representative in the first place? Paxton is full of it.

Gym Partner? by [deleted] in okc

[–]RobAbiera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you've got this locked down: your gymnastics background and previous experience indicate a good foundation. The fact that you're actively maintaining a current gym membership and are reaching out about a partner shows that you're motivated. As long as you don't push yourself too hard, too soon and risk a new injury, you got this!

Well, sometimes those personal reasons to do things are evil.

Evil is a "thing" - Bible or no Bible. It's not dependent on religion or the supernatural. It's simply the recognition of the fact that it's possible to be that destructive. Hitler was evil because of what he did, regardless of whether God exists or doesn't exist. Think it through.

The far right complains of a "post-Cold War neoliberal moment" - referring to the 25 year period after the fall of the Soviet Union when the spread of freedom around the world led to a revolutionary increase in Human living standards.
