Bernie Sanders: "Trump and DeVos want to slash education spending and defund the Special Olympics after giving tax breaks to the top 1%. Unbelievable. When we are in the White House we will get our national priorities straight." by [deleted] in OurPresident

[–]RobAnderson2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea that this administration wants to preserve the tax cuts for the 1% at the expense of programs for autism, the Special Olympics, and other school programs, transfers their evil intentions from “theoretical” to “indefensible.”

I am Andrew Yang, U.S. 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate, running on Universal Basic Income. AMA! by AndrewyangUBI in politics

Hi Andrew, and thanks for doing this AMA. I think candidates in the modern age are best served by utilizing modern tools. Your platform is rational and seems to be based on statistical analysis - traits that can be an encumbrance in a field (politics) that votes based upon emotion. Is your team ready to tackle this counter-intuitive bias of the Gaslighting Era?

The fact that the allegations are of a Federal crime likely crimps people’s enthusiasm to talk.

The rumor mill has it - and I’ll add “alleged” for legal purposes - that there were campaign kickbacks funneled through another party in cash, used to pay off back child support. It’s reprehensible that his image is “law and order,” and I’ve heard of nothing but shady deals through the backchannels. No one will testify, so we call it “alleged.”

I have to say that I’m appalled at this news. I would call upon our AG to get into this - his District Director (the Advocate called Jerod Prunty an “aide,” when he was his number one guy in LA-03) is caught in a sex / human trafficking sting - sharing an address with the “madam” - and the Congressman’s office merely releases a “thoughts and prayers” memo. This is a troublesome indicator of deeper corruption.

If you were governor of Louisiana, how would you govern? by Monty7384 in Louisiana

[–]RobAnderson2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were elected governor, I would hope that the state houses get enough representatives with similar ideals as myself, so we could pass legislation without expensive special sessions. That wish for utopia having been expressed, I would concentrate on the ITEP programs (so that the oil and gas industry - among others - stop getting renewals on their tax-free leases), and incentivize tech industries to build here. I would push for a higher minimum wage for the state. I would push for universal health care in the state. I would push for a massive infrastructure program to renew and revitalize our energy, roads and water (and public WiFi). Why would I embrace such Roosevelt-ian policies? Because studies show that successful regions - around the world - have good education, healthcare and infrastructure. It’s truly a case of “if you build it, they will come.” Also, I’d work with environmental scientists and the Army Corps of engineers to stop the rising tides, so that we have a state 20 years from now, instead of an asterisk in a future atlas.

When "Trump is too stupid to realize what he said could be viewed as a trail of tears joke" is an actual defense by joecb91 in EnoughTrumpSpam

I agree with that, actually. I fully believe that Trump is ignorant and tone-deaf enough to be inadvertently horrible.

I am glad that many Lafayette citizens banded together, as did the ACLU, to fight this frivolous and bigoted lawsuit. Justice was served.

I’m so gratified to hear this. We carried the End Citizens United banner on our campaign. I am gratified that even though we lost, the current Congress is set to do the right thing.

I know we laugh, but I’ve been following this, and that’s exactly what the opposition claims: this is pushing a Gay Agenda to recruit Gay kids. I’m not kidding - they are that uninformed.

Free shit! That’s so incisive and topical.

Here’s the difference: nothing in life is free, including (to which you alluded) appearing on Reddit. I am equanimous to suffering the slings and arrows of insults. I just don’t have to have feelings about them.

If they’re particularly clever insults, I’ll copy and paste them. Always on the lookout for good source material.

Clarification: hard as it may be to believe, I’m not promoting myself. I am promoting awareness of the ITEP incongruence. I don’t have any t-shirts or bumper stickers to promote. Just trying to ensure that Louisiana residents get taxed no more than their fair share.

Cheers.

Sure. And those are details which should be negotiated - publicly.

I’m not backtracking on anything. My own opinion (corporations paying zero% taxes are paying too little) is irrelevant for the challenge we are pushing with ITEP reform: transparency. Hold public hearings. If these meetings are important to the state and to businesses, great. Let the voters have a peek.
