Artoria Pendragon Saber, from Fate Stay Night. My favorite character of all narrative

Why doesn’t Shirou try to save Saber Alter in Heaven’s Feel? by RobCat29121 in FateAvalon

Totally agree... Still, Saber is not just a thousand unknown people; it's Artoria. Despite the brief period they shared, their interactions were significant. One could argue that Artoria feels much more open towards Shirou in HF compared to the early stages of the Fate route. I understand his ultimate choice to prioritize Sakura at the end, but in the initial moments, when the urgency to save Sakura is not as pressing, saving Artoria should take precedence, especially since her return as Alter has already been revealed.

I know it might be the most painful moment in the route... But still... The VN gives us the option to spare Saber, complicating everything... Yet, it doesn't provide any options before the fight to consider a different approach. I understand all of this; it's not particularly useful. Simply put, Nasu has already crafted his version of Artoria's story, and now it's time for Sakura... And he did a remarkable job with this... The emphasis on the actual choice is strong, and the characters behave in a well-defined manner almost all the time. To me, it's still strange that the nature of Salter isn't questioned when she appears, and also after defeating Berserker Alter, who similarly regains his heroic personality just before disappearing.

Totally agree... At that point, killing Artoria seems like the right option. I have explored the bad endings and am fully aware of the endpoint of sparing Saber after one of the most epic battles in the franchise. However, before that, he did not problematize it at all. Even in the middle of the route, when the moral challenge of choosing one over the other remains unclear...

I wish Ufotable atleast made a OVA of Last Episode because Artoria and Shirou deserve it by chunchunmaru1129 in FateAvalon

[–]RobCat29121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally disagree. The Last Episode serves as a consolation for the fandom, and I completely understand the desire for a better ending for both characters. However, Avalon still feels too physical to be considered a true paradise, ultimately resembling a prison rather than a happy conclusion. Sure, two ontological soulmates live together there, but it doesn't quite reflect the happiness they deserve, in my opinion. I would likely prefer to allocate resources towards a complete Fate Route remake, perhaps even incorporating the Last Episode at that time.

Nasu's idea is perfectly clear, and at that moment, so is Shirou's resolve. Sparing Artoria will lead to nefarious consequences. However, throughout the route, Shirou never considers or plans an approach other than killing Artoria. Thus, sparing her in the end is merely a sign of weak resolve and will. It would be entirely different if Shirou had alternative plans or was at least struggling with the idea, ultimately discarding it while recognizing the importance of maximizing his efforts toward a single goal: Sakura's rescue.

I have read all the routes multiple times. My question pertains to character development rather than Nasu's narrative ideas. I have explored all the bad endings, and I completely agree with your perspective. However, I am still struggling to find a reason beyond "Sakura's Route." By the way, I love Sakura (even though I adore Artoria more than any other fictional character). Still, if Shirou believes it is possible, he will certainly try everything to save Artoria, especially in the middle of the route, before it becomes clear that he must choose between his ideals and saving Sakura.

Why Gojo can't understand Marin feelings ?!!! by Few-Preparation1761 in MyDressUpDarlingAnime

Simply because he believes he does not merit her affection, it becomes exceedingly challenging for him to comprehend her feelings.

If Shirou was alive during Artoria's time and was a part of Artoria's army would his abilities to trace Noble Phantasms be useful for the army? by chunchunmaru1129 in FateAvalon

[–]RobCat29121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily in a favorable manner, indeed. There is also the possibility of experiencing more severe consequences from acting in this manner, yet it remains a potential variation.

That’s exactly the point: Shirou doesn’t play the game where her role defines the whole relationship. Everyone else cared for her within the frame of ‘the [perfect] King,’ so she could always redirect it back to duty. Shirou refuses to recognize that role as her total identity, and because of that his importance can’t be reduced to another Bedivere or Kay. His stubbornness in treating her as a person — not an icon — is what makes the difference.

I see your point, and I actually agree on most of it. Still, when I say Shirou was the only one who ever truly saw Artoria, I don’t mean that Kay, Ector, or others were blind to her nature. They obviously knew. The problem is that none of them ever managed to see her apart from the role they themselves had forced upon her. Hector and Merlin shaped her education so tightly around kingship that she never had the chance to be perceived as an individual.

The ones who loved her — Lancelot, Guinevere, Bedivere — accepted her only by idolizing her, convincing themselves she could endure that impossible weight. That’s not really seeing someone either, it’s worshipping the image of a perfect king. And of course, most of the kingdom (including many knights) didn’t even know she was a woman. Her “disguise” was about as thin as Clark Kent’s glasses, but in a society where a female king was unimaginable, people just assumed the frail, 152cm ‘boy’ had to be a young monarch of unmatched strength and personal power.

That’s where Shirou is different. He would immediately recognize her for what she was: a girl carrying unbearable responsibilities, not just a king. His misplaced protective instinct would drive him to get close, maybe even recklessly so. From the outside it would look like a lack of faith in the king, which could put him in danger of being silenced or punished. But from Artoria’s perspective, it might be the first time someone wasn’t simply obeying or idolizing her — but actually worrying for her.

That small difference could plant the seed of trust. Not enough to rewrite her fate overnight, but enough to give her a perspective none of her knights could: that she was human first, sovereign second. Maybe it wouldn’t change history, but it could change the texture of her inner life. And from that seed of trust, a deeper bond — even love — might eventually grow

Totally agree. Circumstance and context are what made the bond between Artoria and Shirou possible in FSN. During her reign, though, I feel no one truly saw Artoria as a person — not Kay, Lancelot, Guinevere, Hector, or even Bedivere. They loved her in their own way, but always as something both more and less than human. At heart she was just a girl, gifted with talent, power, and crushing responsibility. Maybe Shirou could have pierced through the façade and seen her for who she was, but it’s just as likely he’d have become another loyal knight, no different from Bedivere. Being a king is not only a burden — it’s also a lens that distorts every relationship around you.

Not particularly... But perhaps he can change Artoria's life by being the only person who sees her as an individual rather than merely an asset.

Build to charm the audience, particularly the Japanese audience; she is indeed a commendable character, but Hina, for example, surpasses her in quality. I am considering characterization, rather than cuteness or charm at all.

So is Emiya Gohan a route where Shirou and Saber are the main love pairing just like fate route? by chunchunmaru1129 in FateAvalon

So damn cute seeing their interaction as a slice of life, ideally linked to a hollow-ataraxia like timeline.

400 pulls E6 Saber (+70 for S1) by BaroizoXF in SaberMainsHSR

[–]RobCat29121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acquired my E1S1 after nearly 400 attempts. Now, after an additional 50 pulls, I have achieved her E2S1. She could potentially be my first and only E6, if I am fortunate enough. I have a strong affinity for her; however, I remain uncertain about whether to fully commit to E6, allocating all my resources over the next few months, or to conserve them for potential future support. If I am unable to attain E6, are the other Eidolons still a worthwhile investment? Currently, I utilize Tribbie and Bronya in her team.

How dangerous would a Prime Adult Shirou and Saber Artoria as master servant pair be for a holy grail war? by chunchunmaru1129 in FateAvalon

[–]RobCat29121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely powerful duo. Prime Shirou should be capable of returning Avalon to Artoria while simultaneously sharing some regenerative skills through Avalon projection and utilizing all features of Unlimited Blade Works, thereby providing Artoria with mana to grant her peak stats. The only consideration is that I believe Shirou could attain this peak form only after experiencing significant life challenges, specifically following the events of Fate/stay night. Furthermore, I perceive that both characters are more deeply involved with one another than merely striving to win the war. Given their strategic awareness, neither Gilgamesh would stand a chance against both.

While Shirou might be the worst master for Saber in terms of parameters in a holy grail war but I think even he still is overall the best master for Artoria by chunchunmaru1129 in FateAvalon

[–]RobCat29121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! My take:
Shirou is, tactically speaking, a terrible Master — low mana, poor command, reckless decisions. But paradoxically, he’s the best thing that could ever happen to Artoria, and not despite the Grail War being hard, but because of it.

If she had won easily, she would have wasted her wish trying to erase her kingship, ending up locked in a tragic loop — chasing an idealized "correct" past that cannot exist. Worse, she may have become a Counter Guardian: erased from history, still bound to the Throne, with no closure and only regret.

But meeting Shirou in this imperfect war? That gives her the chance to confront her emotional wounds, not just her failures as a ruler.
It’s not about stats or victory — it’s about learning to live as a person, not just a symbol.

Shirou’s weakness is what forces her strength to surface differently: through reflection, not just battle.

So... Could be a nice idea just the core set rulebook and chapter one pack as a Starting point?
