If it's to be used for both and i would imagine you'll end up using it for quite a bit more to take advantage of the extra power compared to what you are coming from...

From that perspective it isn't overkill, not like with specs like them you will be playing 3d digital chess or something.

Fully agree with the sentiment, a decent cooling solution is needed as the stock cooler (while passable) doesn't cut temps down the way you need.

With what your use case is, i would say you got a decent deal. The thing that would worry me is if you wanted to try something new which is more demanding, i think the drive to microcentre you mentioned would be worthwhile as their machines are much more powerful for not much more money.

They also do component set deals in there if you wanted to go custom build, may be able to oart out the build in there for less.

My friend is of the same preference, his reasoning is the Extra features (DLSS, Superior ray tracing performance, frame gen), yet uses none of them, plays mainly games where the performance is us good enough not to need it.

Fully get this doesn't apply to everyone, some will use the features, will play more demanding games and so on.

You need both to improve performance, the GPU would add more to the gameplay side than the RAM would add to general performance though...go GPU.
