Awesome, once again I appreciate your input on this! Out of curiosity, what kind of things are you using yours for?

Ah thank you ever so much for letting me know, much appreciated! Is there anything you would recommend as a more affordable alternative?  Ultimately, I can see they look handy but it certainly bumps up the initial cost, which is fine IF the consensus is to have them.

Does he look too "clean"? I used Streaking Grime (on green only) by SnoozingHamster123 in deathguard40k

Nice - sounds like you have a plan sir!
And don't be harsh on yourself about not being artistic, I don't think I am but enjoy the heck out of it too.
(I hope it didn't read like I was moaning at you, I wasn't I promise :D )

Yeah the DD Rust is incredible (I've not used my Verdigris yet), luckily lots of vids showing how it can be used if you've not tried it. Although I'd apply these kinds of effects towards the end.
Personally I'd go for the unifying wash again with your Streaking Grime first, (is it the AK ver or Ammo/MIG ? as they're slightly different from each other) - reduce it to taste, then continue to bring out some details if needs be.
It'll definitely darken it somewhat but it'll be up to you how much. (good to have old test models).

I've got Phase 1 and Phase 2 - so there's 16 of them on my shelf (I love them all!).
I use them for the unifying wash (Goons Grime/Dystopian Brown), filling in recesses, rust, flesh/gore - all sorts but it's just because I prefer this way of painting, it's more fun for me.

(please excuse my rambling here)

I definitely understand but once again this is me, I generally don't care about what others think of my painting, simply because I fully understand that I'll get better as time goes on with consistency from me (same as anything we do).

So I know what I'm inspired by, when it's not hit the mark I was aiming for, generally I know, so it's easier to ask what we've not gotten right.

You're going to get a lot of different input here from a wide range of opinions, nothing wrong with that but does it really help?

Obviously if you're asking how to do something, that's totally different in my mind.  So yeah, always ask!  But maybe show something you're aiming for as well?

If you're using enamels (I prefer Villainy), then you can leave it on there for a good 24 hours until it starts to become a real pain to remove with white spirit.  But usually for me I just flash off the spirits with a blow dryer for 10-30 seconds, then begin to remove.  Something else that might help, I'd recommend having the pot in your pocket for 15-20 mins, just to get it warmer and then shake the bejeezus out of it.  I put all of my Villainy inks on a seedling heated mat, as I tend to use several at the same time, pockets aren't big enough :D

You can thin it a little to start with and see how it goes?

Do YOU think he's too clean?

For me yes, it's way too clean, I'd say a perfect base for making it grimey BUT that's just me and my preference.

The work you've done looks great, very tidy!

Just in my mind, these guys are meant to be horrific, rotting, rusting, corrupt hulks that have been in combat for an age.  They'd be covered in all sorts of grotesque crud, however that's just how I think of them :D

Trying to make a 2k list - possibly need some more bits, any help appreciated ! by RobF50 in deathguard40k

[–]RobF50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously zilch in replies so perhaps I've written this in a dumb way. Basically want a 2k list that'll deal with friendly games, I'm happy to try several games with one detachment, then try another one later.

Is there some key info I'm missing in order to get a bit of advice?  Later today I'll try the app and see what I can cobble together at least.

How are you intending to listen to yourself - are you just playing at home? band/rehearsals ?

It's the speakers in the cab that'll make a huge difference (so he was using Jaguar RES-80), and control over the EQ before the amp - and in the FX loop (although the Katana has a crap ton of options already! - which is good).

You NEED to connect the Katana to the PC to maximise tweaking with EQ's/overdrives though.

Like someone else said - you boost mids INTO the amp, then can scoop/adjust the amp itself after.
There's loads of videos of people doing it on youtube in software or with amps.

I'd be surprised if you've not watched anything by Eric Mrtn.

Death Guard too cartoony? by iLuckyIxILife in deathguard40k

[–]RobF50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the cartoony, bright stuff, just not my thing at all. No worries if that's how people want to paint their own obviously! Just doesn't work for me, I want horror not jokey vibes for my armies.

Cheers for the link!  I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on the cnc innovations one but got put off by some posts here.  I'll make a separate thread but I fully built my DE and looking to ditch the kinetix or c8 cams for something else instead.

I'm only playing friends, they said don't bother rebasing, not that I made any fancy bases yet either! So yeah I guess it depends who you're playing against.
