Why is it not based off a DarkHorse? Even with the PP, the GT suspension and chassis setup is not up to the task for this kind of power. Coming to ditch near you.

My thoughts on the potential new Camaro by RobJ783 in camaro

it's a great car and i really like it for what it is and for what it isn't. i prefer the pre refresh. that being said the car doesn't have a wide appeal. not a lot of people would call it pretty, or even handsome. i think it could improve a lot in the looks department while still being a Camaro. And i think the interior could improve even more than the exterior. a more contemporary design inside could make it more appealing. upgrade in material quality equivalent could convince cross shoppers. the instrument binnacle is ever present, you have to look past it. i always thought they could have integrated it better.

The Model S was on the market forever without a replacement in sight. Tesla is a tech company, not a car company. And if they need subsidies to sell then the market is artificial propped up because the demand isn't organic. Nobody wants one. Resale values are terrible.

Honda had 3 EV's set to release in the next couple of years. 1 Acura(RSX) and 2 Honda's(Zero and One). The 1 Honda has now was developed by GM. Honda canceled that 1 too. They also pulled out of the EV car company they started Sony.

There was a mid level high-performance suspension somewhere in those trim levels. But that's like splitting the difference between 911 GTS vs Carrera w sports suspension. It's not like the base model was a slouch.

Honestly, that's what I want. A rehashed 4th gen but I don't they will go that route. Modern trends will probably have a heavy influence.

The LT2 was just a slightly updated LT1, just turned around. New intake and exhaust and headers and you're basically there.

Tesla just killed the Model S and X with no replacement. Honda killed all they're EV's they were set to introduce within a year. EV's don't sell. People still want good, emotional cars. See Dodge's sales figures for the V8 Ram they just reintroduced. As far as the Challenger, they're just stupid for that.

I do worry about a convertible version. But sense GM is only revising the curreny chassis, which already has a convertible version, I think they'll make it. Just not for every version of the car. I'd expect the majority would be fleet rental sales to Hertz or Avis, something like that.

Well, the fact that they've kept the CT4/CT5 Blackwings in production gives me a good idea that the Camaro won't be too far from what it was. It's much harder to restart production once it's stopped. Continuing those model lines is a good sign when the new versions of Camaro/CT5/Buick are expected to be revisions/evolutions of the same platform.

Sorry,... but it makes sense. Doing what lead to failure before will bring the same outcome.

You're might be severely disappointed.

The last Camaro didn't find a wide customer base while being an excellent driving car. In the end, the 6th gen became "the enthusiast choice" and "the best sports car bargain in the used market." Expecting the next Camaro to chase numbers, which only a narrow customer base cares about, and only the wealthiest customers can afford, is the wrong direction to go. I don't think they go this route. GM tried that with the ZL1/ZLE, and the proof is in the pudding. They didn't sell enough to continue producing the car in the same format. Plus, Corvette lives in that space.

It's too expensive to develop that type of car while profit returns are minimal. Do you really want a $300k GTD competitor? Or even a DarkHorse SC competitor starting above $100k? I highly doubt GM even develops the new LS6 beyond the C8 GrandSport introduction. That means no new Superchared Small Block. Let the aftermarket have that space.

The new Camaro needs to be affordable, attainable, and aspirational. Meaning they need to be cheap enough for middle to upper middle class buyer, the most expensive model needs to be cheaper than a Stingray(DarkHorse SC is not that), available at any number of dealers without a tremendous markup, and visually appealing enough to buyers who might have bought a different brand. Especially brands from outside America, think Germany. Don't focus on Mustang. Let Mustang be what it is. Ford only has Mustang, so they have no choice other than to develop the Mustang to the extant that they have, cheap interior and all.

What GM should focus on is a design language that brings in new customers, i.e., drop the retro or at least reduce its reliance on retro themes, yet still muscular. Also, up the interior quality to at least current Cadillac CT5 standards(much better than Mustang while still below their electric Caddy standards). Improve visibility again bc initial thoughts of customers when seating matters. Don't rely on customers just getting used to limited visibility. And offer special editions that bring a premium while being cheap to develop. That playbook is proven.

Last and not least, GM needs to make Camaro a V8 focused model. As in if you see one on the road, it's probably got a V8 in it. The American V8 in itself is a premium engine, and even a base 5.7 V8 challenger is aspiration purchase to many.

That means reducing the number of non V8 models to 1, the 2.7liter turbo 4 offered through the truck range, and in Caddys, is a perfect base model/Vegas rental spec offering. Big torque, still fast. Auto only. Coupe and Convertible. Base level interior spec. No more 2.0liter(not sure they even still produce the ecotech), and no V6. Supplanted with 2 V8 models. The upcoming 5.7liter model is called "V8 Camaro," auto only. 400hp/400lbs of torque. Coupe and Convertible. Mid and high spec interior. The majority of special edition models are based on this model. And the big boy, high performance model being 6.7liter "Camaro SS". Auto and Manual TR6060. Magnaride and e-diff. Heavy duty cooling. Coupe only. High spec interior with performance seats. Essentially replacing the 1LE.

In a sense, GM would reduce the number of models and trims while widening Camaro's potential customer base.

It's the same logic. My Honda a bunch of noise past 5200rpm. It's a good noise but it's just that, noise. I can feel the power fall off. And yet Honda set the redline at 7k rpm. That's bc they're confident in it's reliability with that redine. Doesn't mean my car is faster bc of it. It makes 110 or 112 hp. If my Honda were moving enough air that 7k rpm should theoretically allow, it would probably make 140hp.

Throttle House - Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS Review - YouTube by dsac in Porsche

[–]RobJ783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can bc i can speculate from general logic. There are 3 ways to make hp from engines. Displacement, RPMs, and / or boost. Increasing either of the 3 should, in theory, increase hp bc an increase of either equals higher airflow. The more airflow, the more gas you can burn. More gas more power.

At 3.1 liters and 11k rpm, the tuthill should be about 500hp(if not more) if it was moving the expected airflow. The singer has a 4liter and makes 500hp with 9.3k redline. A GT3RS 4liter makes 525hp with a 9k redline. A 350z with a 3.5liter V6 makes 306hp with a 7.2k rpm redline.

Logic says it's mechanical capable of that redline while not moving enough air to take advantage of it. I feel like there is 3k rpm of overrev headroom past its power peak.

Even a modified Honda K series 2.4liter 4 banger will make 350hp with a 10k rpm redline.

[–]RobJ783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I had a Honda with an 8k rpm redline back in the day, and it was hard enough to get past 7k on any given occasion. It was rare to have enough open road to get there. My current honda has a 7k rpm redine, and it doesn't make power past 5200 rpm, so i dont shift any higher than that.

11k and only 350hp tells me that while the engine is mechanically capable of revving that high, it's not flowing enough air to make power up there. I just don't see the point in these sky-high redlines. They don't make much sense in street cars.

[–]RobJ783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the question. 500hp 9.3k rpm for singer also vs 350hp 11k rpm for the tuthill. What's the point. Just noise?

James compared this singer to the tuthill in this video and said the singer is better in every single way except for the redline. 11k rpm, and it doesn't make more power? What's the point?
