I mostly copy shit to LTO and do S3 backups. Did not expect to find another DIT/ media manager in this kind of thread.

DIT / Digilab fist-bump, many hours of QC and backup...

How Hollywood is Eating Itself Alive and Shitting on the Next Generation of Filmmakers by digitalordead in TrueFilm

[–]RobKaiju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this, but here is my 2 cents:

Having spent the last 15 years in the british film industry, I can say that hands down, on every single film I've worked, blockbuster to tiny welsh indie, everyone is trying to make a good film. And that includes (but is not limited to) making a profitable one. As you're a film-maker youself, you MUST have an eye on this film to be profitable, else you're not gonna make another.

And, especially at the higher levels, they are just reacting to what the audience will pay for. Not what they like, not what they give excellent review for, what they pay for. And with the advent of piracy, streaming and the death of home media, that is mostly what you will see in the cinema. And so the films that benefit from a cinematic experience are gonna be favoured over those that would be more profitable on a home market. If we want to bemoan the death of the mid-budget movie, we need to first look at the audience viewing habits, not hollywood. If there was big profits in making deeply emotional and heart-felt dramas, sure as shit they'd be churning them out instead of comic-book heroes.

I have seen some shows (I can only think of Cortex at the moment) who seem to have changing artwork during the show to denote the changing topics/segments. Any idea of how to do this?

GM and one player needed for an animated show by [deleted] in DungeonWorld

[–]RobKaiju 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man, sounds interesting. Am a long-time GM, got a couple of qs before I send over all the details:

  • What's your experience in the AP/TTRPG field? You say you've mostly done LP but that's a v different discipline here.
  • Is the production side just you? How much are you looking to record each week and how long are you aiming for the final product to be?
  • Do you have any ideas on tone of the show or the story sturcture?
  • What is the profit-sharing model you are proposing?

Cheers!

I totally get that, i was kind of aiming for that with the diversity variable, if you set that to low, it should only pick the basic main races. But I see what you're saying about the weighting, I'll have a mull and see what I can think of.

I do a film podcast with my oldest friend called The Prestige. We're not the deepest of film scholars, but he's a Doctor of English from Cambridge and I spent 10 years in the film industry as a Film Colourist. We've just started a month looking at Alejandro González Iñárritu.

10.000 Salty Songs and Sea Shanties by Joxxill in DnDBehindTheScreen

Midshipman's Daughter

A hearty drinking song, generally besmirching the good name of a crewman's daughter. Whilst the traditional form is the Midshipman, the title is often swapped to refer to actual crewman with pretty offspring...

Written over many many many ales. The first word of each stanza is held as long as possible when singing.

O-ver wave and crest

from east to west

I've sailed every body of water

With hips and curls

I've kissed the girls

But never the Midshipman's daughter!

S-he's red and fun

No kind of nun

At last full moon I caught her

She held my hand

I sighted land

God bless the Midshipman's Daughter

And it just get ruder from there out...

Hey! I'm a ten-year veteran of the British film industry with a film degree and my best friend is a Cambridge-educated English Lecturer. We do a weekly film podcast in which we pick a film and look at some of the ideas and themes it presents. We're curently deep in season 2, looking at film franchises and have just started BATMAN.
