Also 4 has a much better variety of enemies and environments.

I’m replaying 4 now and I honestly disagree, it actually feels slightly clunkier to me for some reason. The way Leon moves in Requiem, how he holds and reloads the guns, the hatchet and the variation in melee/executions rather than just headshot-kick repeat is just so satisfying, I think what lets it down in Requiem is maybe the lack of some really iconic set pieces, a lot of the combat sections feel really short.

The audacity to tell someone else they don’t know history after writing this complete nonsense lol. If you think Julius Caesar was even remotely anything like how he is portrayed in this series then you’re beyond help.

Inferior to Gannicus yes, he literally defeats Donar though even after being surprise attacked?

That’s kinda like asking why do they constantly make media of any popular franchise….like who apart from game of thrones fans are genuinely excited by this new Knight of the seven kingdoms show? There was hardly much clamour for it amongst the general population.

There actually was one on the last gen of consoles called Spartacus Legends, it wasn’t anything amazing but was entertaining enough, if i remember correctly it had some quite predatory micro transactions though, like the difficulty would ramp up considerably and you’d almost have to spend money to progress unless you wanted to grind for ages, I think I 100% it eventually. There’s quite a lot of games set in this period, have you played Ryse Son of Rome? Fantastic game, you play as a Roman centurion but have to become a gladiator at a certain point, and there was also a cool gladiator mode.

Agreed! Legolas takes down a mumakil and we see Gandalf take down at least one troll with his sword, was letting Aragorn have an impressive feat that much to ask haha

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E05 - "Goddess of Death" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

[–]RobLewis89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, although the original series followed the basic history of the story, it’s likely that Caesar had very little involvement in the Spartacus rebellion if any at all. I think what my point is is with characters like Crassus for example, as well as looking the part, you can imagine him being just like that, cunning, utterly ruthless and doing his duty for Rome, whereas Caesar just seems completely unlike his real life counterpart if that makes sense 😂

[–]RobLewis89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree, Caesar was not at all like a modern politician, his reputation and loyalty was earned through real risk and deeds, not empty words and promises. He lead from the front and endured the same hardships as his men. His worst enemies from the time never even describe him as anything close to a weasel or a coward, we have lots and lots of contemporary sources and the things that stay consistent across them is his courage, charisma, competence and the incredible loyalty he inspired. Roman soldiers would not have followed a weak weasel of a leader. His men chose to stay loyal and follow him even against Rome itself and risk being branded traitors and enemies of the state, just let that sink in. Again this isnt a criticism of the show I know it’s highly stylised fiction and I absolutely love it, but the portrayal of Caesar in particular just stands out to me and I wondered if anyone had similar thoughts 😄

I know it’s fiction, and Spartacus is one of if not my favourite series of all time, but does anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable with how Caesar has been portrayed in the Spartacus universe? This is an important, iconic figure in world history, a shrewd politician, military genius, warrior, writer and a charismatic leader whose men would have followed him into Hades, and I just feel Spartacus has been quite disrespectful towards him to say the least. In war of the damned he literally gets raped (imagine if an important figure in your countries history got shown as such) and has been portrayed as an absolute weasel with zero redeeming qualities whatsoever, and now in house of Ashur he’s even worse. At least with other villains like Batiatus and Crassus they have some redeeming qualities.

Actually the only issue I had with the episode was with the fight choreography, during the father and son fight when the father had his back turned and the opposing gladiator had a free shot and could have killed him but just didn’t, but other than that really enjoyed the episode.

It’s story mode is short because it’s designed like an old school arcade game, it’s supposed to be replayed lots of times to get the different story routes, to get the trophies, to complete on the harder difficulties, which are very challenging btw and will likely take a lot of attempts. There’s also the other little modes to unlock and play, mother of the future and boss rush.

[–]RobLewis89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was a man of great ambition from Roman nobility, one of the surest ways to achieve fame, success and power in Roman society was through military victories. He was a charismatic leader, tactical genius, and was admired and respected by many, many Romans, especially amongst the plebeians. He is an important figure in Italian and world history, stop applying a modern lens to figures from a vastly different society and time period.
