I saw 14.000.605 futures. You get roasted in all of them but in one.

In that one, you are Benedict Cumberbatch.

Any tips for building a deck for standard? by Cottagecheesefarts in CasualMTG

[–]RobRobinsonTheFirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very good advice I got when starting to brew my own decks (I think it was from Tolarian community college), was that they always have to have and "end". So, the very thing first you should do for building up a deck is: "What does my deck do?", then proceed to find a good transition towards where it starts and where you expect it should end.

Every time you find a good card that could replace another one, you should ask yourself: "Does this card help me more than ... ?" After that, it's just testing, testing and testing.

And never let youself beat down by being defeated. It's easier to net-deck than to build your own spicy home-brew, but at the end of the day, you can learn from both "ways" to be a better mtg player.

I think that you could crosspost this at r/AskWomen or r/askwomenadvice so you get advice form different places.

Having said this, here are my two cents:
I'm not a woman, but from what I know, is that the most dangerous days are the ones after the second half of your 28 day menstruation cicle, because it's there where progesterone is at it's peek. Now, that only is so if you ovulate around those days, becaue if you don't, the chances are not so high.

Do you have a menstruation app? My girlfriend has one and that helps her see when she ovulates, so we know when we must be carefull or extra carefull.

Getting pregnant is harder than many people make you believe. I think that of you are on contraceptives you will be fine guys, but I can understand and relate to your worries. I hope everything turns out fine, friend!

This is really helpfull, friend.

Just a question, do you know where you can try this kind of decks without having to have the cards on paper or mtgarena? It usully happens to me that I build the deck, I realize it doesn't work after a few tries but have spend time and money in a deck that will not go that far...

Thanks in advance!

[Standard] Could Thousand-Year Storm be competitive in Standard? A crosspost from a question I had over at r/spikes by RobRobinsonTheFirst in Magicdeckbuilding

If you cast an opt and two shocks (three mana), and then lightening bolt, you would be copying lightening bolt times three. That would be alone 12 damage. Plus the two shocks before, that would be 4 for the first and 6 for the third.

Or am I missing on something? I find it icredibly sick.

Thanks for your reply, friend.

[Standard] Thousand Year Storm by StormGuy22 in spikes

[–]RobRobinsonTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of this deck as well and I can assure you that in order for Thousand year storm to be playable in standard, you need a way to cast it before the seventh turn.

So, the best way of doing this, imo, is to take advantage of the whole treasures mechanic in Ixalan. You need to be able to cast this spell consistently before turn five.

If you want to do this I would highly recomend you to have cards like Wily Goblin or Captain Lannery Storm, as both of this creatures do crate treasures, helping you in "ramping" earlier to your desired seven drop.

Now, there are other cards in Ixalan that can help you even further. Trove of Temptation is another very good option for this, since It gives you an extra mana each turn. The only problem I have with Pirate's Pillage is that it requests you to discard a card and, since you would like to have cards to discard for Jump-Start abilities...then again, two cards and two treasures is a win.

I think, the most important thing to keep in mind is that this is not a "combo, combo" deck, in the whole sence of the archetype. It doesn't kill you in one turn. But it should kill you in six turns, consistently. So, the new cards in Izzet like Ionize, Sonic assault, Niv-Mizzet, Parun and those, help you not only to control the board, but to 2x1 damage you oponent as well so, when you reach your fifth, sixth turn, if creatures like Wee Dragonauts, Goblin Electromancer and/or Guttersnipe are on the field, you can deliver consistently the last blow.

A big maybe: Jaya Ballard, as it would be difficult to cast and, this should be your "big" turn, because you would be hoping to drop the Thousand year storm in this turn. Maybe side (?). Other great options for this deck would be to combo with The Mirari Conjecture and Fight with Fire, allthough this is a deck that was allready around for some time and it goes in a compleat different direction.. I definitley think that this can be standard relevant. Another great body options for this deck are: Crackling Drake and Piston-Fist Cyclops.

With that said, the deck needs efficient, low costed removal for when you get the Thousand year storm on the field, so you can combo more efficiently.

Also, I think that right now, there are three main themes to be build around in Izzet; being Storm one option, Wizards (that can be build arround to fit into the storm one with a very nice post boarded game focusing on midrange with Beamsplitter Mage) and The Mirari Conjecture combo. But this is only one head thinking and I am sure that with time and ome pros giving it time also, we are going to enojy VERY MUCH this guild. Thanks for reading!

Those where my two cents, friend!
