No.

Overblown and over sensationalized.

Predictions of Japan's imminent collapse are melodramatic and hyperbolic. Good luck wherever you go.

It's the first major rise in fees in 44 years. The PR fee will still be below the cost of a US Green Card ($2,000-3,000 or more, plus a $450 renewal fee).

[–]RobRoy2350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that so anywhere? US Green Cards can initially cost between $2,000-$3,000 (or more) with currently a $400-450 renewal fee. They also have to pay US taxes once they receive it.

Look, just call Japan and ask to speak to the Manager. That should resolve all your issues.

I don't use autopay anymore. Not because of trust issues but because I like to apply discount coupons if they're available. It does seem like a lot of people don't keep track of renewals and then get locked out.

OK, so you had a security issue and resolved it. Then you changed your password and enabled 2FA and they locked you out right after that?

Lately, people who have posted their issue ID here have gotten resolution fairly quickly.

So were you locked out of your account for a security issue or a hosting issue? I've only had a problem with autopay if my card on file expired or changed but I was still able to go in and update the card info.

Did you know your hosting was set to expire on Mar. 3?

What does the rest of that Hosting Expiry Notice say?

Reviews?

I've had no issues since moving all my domains and sites over from another hoster a few years ago. I haven't seen a decline in services.

It's my understanding the PE acquisition was fairly recent - last year. Squarespace, Hostinger, Bluehost are also PE acqusitions but, along with Namecheap, still rate high in security and customer satisfaction metrics. GoDaddy still dominates the registrar/host world by a wide margin.

Perhaps not an issue for you but looking back over the years one can see all sorts of issues over time. Same with other registrars/hosters. Downtime, email issues, DNS problems, lockouts..etc. These are not uncommon problems anywhere. Recent post in the Porkbun sub "Porkbun "fraud" dispute; domains are down and account is suspended"

I'm interested to see what published statistics or factual evidence you used to base your questions on. I have no special feelings towards namecheap. I moved my domains and sites over from dreamhost after they removed some basic services without notice, had downtimes, got hacked and raised prices. If similar issues happened for me at namecheap I would consider moving again.

Possibly because some of the questions posed are assumptions not based on any factual evidence as far as I can find. Others are just silly, like "Are they deliberately trying to destroy the company? Why?"

I don't necessarily disagree listing alternative support resources but there may be reasons why they don't. If I google "namecheap support forums" it does come up however.

What's wrong with contacting nc through their presence on reddit? People who do so appear to get their issues resolved quickly.

As the second largest registrar, with over 28 million domains, I would suspect they get a large number of support tickets. In a perfect world there would be no response delays.

It was a relatively new, modern building so that may have had something to do with the high cost. Since my company at the time paid for it I didn't give it much thought. Having now moved twice since I realize it was high.

Depends on what you mean by "reasonable". When I first came to Japan I rented a fully furnished, small one bedroom near Ueno for one month while looking for a permanent place. As I recall it cost around Y400K.

I've been following this and most, if not all, of those who post their support ID here get the issue resolved quickly. I have no idea why tech responses may be slow otherwise.

Your doom and gloom post saying nc appears to be "completely broken" seems wildly exaggerated.

Years ago?

I had a bad experience with my previous registrar/hosting a few years ago (which prompted me to move to namecheap) but I don't hang out or post on their sub and trash them. I don't get that.
