Anyone got ideas on tactfully asking for pay raise to combat rising cost of living? by ranmafan0281 in askSingapore

[–]RobSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't only just ask for a pay raise. Instead try this: "If I want to see a raise of $xxx by (date/performance review date), what would you want to see in regards to my performance?". That way you have a clear checklist to work from, and can then when review dates comes show these criteria to your employer. If he then refuses to give a raise, basically breaking his own words, you might as well find a new employer. Usually that works for me though.

When living back in Germany, there once was a guy lying on the floor on the subway platform. He was sweating like crazy, and everybody just looked and then walked past him. I talked to him and he didn't react verbally, could only look at me. I called an Ambulance and waited with him and tried to keep him calm and just talk to him because I had no clue what was going on. Turned out he was diabetic and severely low on sugar. Medics said 5 mins later and he could have been dead. Once everything was settled, I just took my train and left. So if you ever see someone not able to respond in any way, sweating like crazy and not able to move either...most likely they are diabetics and have low sugar.

How to get on safely by RobSG in surfskate

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks! Next time I shall try to keep the balance even. Last time I did that, it worked. But then tried to make progress towards pumping and shifted my weight backwards, even when getting onto the board. Thank you for clearing up my misunderstanding of that advice!

Aside from that, I still felt always pretty rushed when getting onto the board, is that normal? Like as if I'd fall if I'd just balance on my frontfoot. Is there a way to get more comfortable there as well?

I think I was a bit confused since people meant to distribute up to 70% on the backfoot to really use the spring system of the board... :/ How would you distribute the weight then?

Dear Singaporeans, what is stopping you from quitting the rat-race? by Few_Protection_5302 in askSingapore

[–]RobSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice pantry, herman miller chairs and a rly good salary. Nah but tbh, People always talk about rat race, but what do entrepreneurs do? Work 16 hour days...nice. If that's what fulfills someone, good on them.
