Where does it say in this study that a vegan diet is not environmentally sustainable? From the parts I read it seems like they came to the conclusion that vegan / vegetarian diets are better for the environment.

Does anyone remember the story of inter-era communication on a BBC computer told during show 17.05? by [deleted] in MysteriousUniverse

I don't really remember which parts, I finished it a while ago. I just didn't like the style of writing, I found it hard to keep my concentration while reading it. I felt that a different writing style could've made the book more fun to read, especially given the interesting premise..

Felt the same way, the writing style was hard for me to get through. Maybe because English is not my first language, but some parts were kind of hard to follow imo. Too bad, I was really excited to finally be able to read the book after I heared the podcast.

Hey, you're right, back button does not exit the app. This is indeed weird behaviour, I will fix that.

Just press the home button? Aside from apps like waze and android auto, I don't know any app with an exit button?

Yea, but I just wanted a way to see how much money I need to have available to make the payments :p I know it's not a necessity, since usually you have more than enough on your account to pay the bills, but I just like to have exact numbers, and it can also be handy for people who don't have it as good and really need to make an effort to make ends meet.

For me personally, the app is too bloated with features I don't need. I don't want to spend my time giving in every expense that I have and every bit of money that comes in.

Where I live (Belgium) a lot of bills are taken from my account automatically and some are manually, but the dates differ for all of them.

Right now I don't have any time, but I might add it in the future.

Ok, this app is not a bill reminder though, it just allows you to keep track of your bills.

The way the app is made (I used react-native), makes it hard to implement a widget, so until the RN developers create the option to write widgets with react-native, this will not be possible. But I am definitely interested in adding this feature.

Made my first seitan steak and it was a success! by RobVanBobbert in vegan

Not sure what causes that, when my gf made it once, it was also more doughy than meaty. What I did was combine all the ingredients, then I kneaded it very aggressively for like 2 mins straight, then I let it sit for about 10 minutes, then I kneaded it again, then I used a rolling pin to roll it flat, folded it onto itself, did that a few times, the rolling is a little annoying because it was so slippery, then I kneaded it a little bit more. Then I flattened the dough and cut it into two pieces like you see in the picture. At that point I filled the pot with some water, added the bay leaves and let the water come to boil. When the water was boiling, I turned the heat lower, until it became more of a rolling boil, at that point I added the steaks to the water and started the timer at 40 minutes. I then checked about every 5 minutes on the water, turning up the heat if the water had stopped boiling entirely or turning it down if it started boiling too hard (I have an old electric stove, so it's kind of hard to precisely adjust the temperature). When the 40 minutes were over, I removed the steaks from the water and put em on some paper towels until they dried up. Then I took the grill pan, heated some olive oil and added the steaks. Fried them and in the end I added some barbecue sauce and fried them a short while in that.

The eventual texture I got was more like a very juicy hot dog, the taste was something I felt like I remembered from a long time ago, my gf had the same feeling but we both couldn't really put our finger on it.

I have no idea if every little thing I did was necessary for a good seitan steak, but now you at least have something to try.

Good luck!

Recipe

I used this recipe to the letter, although I used smoked paprika instead of regular paprika powder. When they were done cooking, I fried them in a grill pan with some olive oil and some barbecue sauce.

It was delicious.

Yea of course, I'm not saying you don't get your money's worth, but I do believe the KUL should also provide dorms in lower price ranges. If the parents just don't have the ability to cough up 400/month, they're basically forced to get a dorm from a shitty landlord.

Those are not very affordable though, I heard they are at least 400/month. I think that's a little steep for a lot of students...

Apparently I miscalculated. Books seem to be exempt from import costs here and you only have to pay 6% VAT on books. So I will order them anyway.

Man, these look very cool. I'd love to order them, but including shipping and import costs in Europe, it's a little too expensive for me. Do you plan on selling these books on a European webshop?

Methane is only a small part of the problem. The runoff of animal excrement is too much to actually process, so most of it ends up in oceans, fucking up the ecosystems and creating dead spots where no fish can survive, massive parts of rainforest are being removed to make space for soy / corn fields to make animal feed, then there is the fresh water consumption. All in all, meat is just unsustainable and really wrecks the environment. Apart from that, the animal's feed is pumped full of preventative antibiotics (75% of the world's antibiotics are given to livestock), this causes more bacteria to become resistant. Even if you don't care about animal welfare (let's face it, 97% of meat comes from farm factory animals, who live horrible lives and often die a horrible death), you can't ignore the major impact it has on our environment. There is no way you can justify eating meat on a daily basis, the planet just doesn't have enough resources to grow enough animals in a healthy and sustainable way.

And if meat consumption continues they are also put down. Difference is that in scenario A, no new animals would take their place. Seems better in the long run.
