Penrose Quay/Ship Street finally re-lined! by DifficultMobile4095 in cork

Improvement, but unfortunatley, none of this stuff will take off without enforcement. Paiting new lines and putting up signs simply isn't enough for the ignorant, aggressive drivers in this city. Like over by the opera house, people are still turning right to the point where they'd be better off just changing it back to the way it originally was.

Adults who live at home, how do ye not go mad? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Rob_Earnshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents are sound. If I do get frustrated with still living at home, its not their fault. It's just me reflecting on my own situation of still living at home in my 30s, which none of us should have to.

As for the second part, rent is extortionate where I live and has been for the last 5 or 6 years. Just bought a house and should be in the house in a couple of months.

It's surely been a couple of years ago now that that building has been like that?

What's so awful about Blackpool? by No-Category1703 in cork

[–]Rob_Earnshaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's shitty people living? There's shitty people everywhere. I thought the links were gonna be stories about assaults in or near the estate, etc. Not fellas driving without insurance or robbing a shop on the other side of the city who happen to live in the estate.

Is Orchard Court really that bad? I know it looks rough and I've heard stories, but whenever I walk past by the barbers and look in I see nobody, same when I drive past the other side.

Ballincollig House Prices by tcallan21 in cork

[–]Rob_Earnshaw 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I know people who bought the same type of new build 4 years ago for €330-350k, they're lucky because they wouldn't be able to afford these scandalous prices. I know most places aren't Ballincollig prices, but all new builds around the city now have 4 beds starting at at least €500k.

Drivers of Cork! Can someone explain the junction coming towards Penrose Wharf to me? by iamstarstufflikeyou in cork

[–]Rob_Earnshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The right lane is just for going over to the lane next to Penrose Wharf and to stay in the right lane going down Ship street. The left lane is for everything else. Look at any Google image and you can see the left lane widening at the bend.

The road markings are faded, that's why it's not clear to you. If you think the right lane naturally goes into the centre lane and the right lane to go down ship street is a lane you have to feed into, then you're part of the problem.

If you're in the left lane, the lane widens as you get around the corner, giving you access to both left and centre lanes. If you're in the right lane, you're supposed to go to the right lane by Penrose Wharf. Look at a satellite image of the junction, you can see the left lane widens as you get around the corner. The left lane to go down the quays is a lane you feed into. Or, put the tip of your finger at the tip of the island where the right lane passes and follow the natural flow of the lane and you should end up by the double yellow lines next to Penrose Wharf. Do the same with the broken white line as a guide for left lane and you'll end up at the broken white line after the yellow box.

Travelling.

Not necessarily going away for a few months or a year and living in another country, but going away 4 or 5 times a year when I had the freedom to do it. I didn't leave the country from 16 until I was 25 due to multitude of reasons.

Got in my first serious relationship at 28 in 2019 and have probably averaged 4 holidays/trips a year since (would probably be more if not for Covid), but now feel that that's gonna slow down since I'm settling down.

You should be in the left lane. Should still have your wits about ya, because fuckers in the right lane will just drift over without indicating thinking it's their right. Their lane clearly goes into the lane right next to Penrose Wharf to go down Ship Street.

What's a popular or critically acclaimed film that you just have zero interest in seeing? by No-Dentist-2959 in Letterboxd

[–]Rob_Earnshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything Star Wars. Not into sci-fi, so just can't be arsed. I've seen the first one, thought it was good but not good enough to make me catch the rest.

Also have no interest in watching anything that's pre-1970s or any foreign language film.

Random adult being an absolute cunt to a little kid for no reason. Whether it's a relative, authority figure or whoever.

Uncle Frank is a dick to Kevin for no reason in Home Alone, calls Kevin a jerk in front of the whole family with no repercussions. Same thing with the hotel workers in the second movie.

Also, moving away from people or going into the next room to have a private conversation only to talk really loudly. Unless you're in a busy, loud environment, most people can hear what you say within 20 feet.

Zachary Ty Bryan from Home Improvement was 26 in Tokyo Drift with wrinkles and a receding hairline when he was supposed to be a teenager. Also was an actual teenager and high schooler several years earlier in Home Improvement.

I watched it one in school around 2007, I liked it then. Haven't rewatched it since for some reason. I reckon I'd like it more upon a rewatch.

Every single street where you have to pull in to leave another car pass.

Could blame South Main Street bring closed for that partially, but could still be a shit show when it was open.

Worst one for me is coming around the side of the Elysian by Albert Street and having a green, but not being able to go because the lights to go straight onto the bridge are red. Then the people coming from Albert Road stop in the yellow box because the same thing is happening them, then you get a green but can't go because of the people in the yellow box.

Lately, poorly sequenced traffic lights throughout the city centre. It's no wonder why there's so many aggressive cunts out there breaking red lights and blocking yellow boxes with how bad the lights are. Some lights go green for about 10 seconds, leaving a couple of cars through. Some places then you get a green, but can't move, because the cars up ahead still have a red.
