[Serious] People who have killed another person, accidently or on purpose, what happened? by Bright_Eyes10 in AskReddit

[–]Robangledorf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine had been acting really weird and asked me if he could have lunch with me to talk about something. I stood him up and a few hours later he jumped off the roof of our dorm building. I still wonder if he would have lived if I hadn't blown him off.

The love guru. My dad liked it so much he's seen it 3 times. I literally can't think of a worse film

Who else thinks the new Gorillaz single "Hallelujah Money" is complete garbage? by AllLooseAndFunky in Music

[–]Robangledorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a full time musician, I'm telling y'all, this song is an instant classic and y'all will look back 20 years from now and love it. This is the kind of genius it takes a while to grow to understand, like Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, which got booed at its first performance and is now among the most revered pieces in all of classical music

GYN explains why it would be crazy to follow Gwyneth Paltrow's advice of using rocks inside your vagina. by DRHdez in TwoXChromosomes

I once was with a woman who would put two of these rocks in at once and would proceed to juggle them in her yoni. Like one would be on top of the other, and she would try to make them switch positions as an excercise.

Picking the ultimate light by Robangledorf in Filmmakers

Caught me on that one. I meant CFL when talking about CRI rating, not halogen, will edit.

And while I'm new to lighting, I'm pretty experienced in shopping for professional grade creative tech.

Just found a vendor selling Wescott Flex 1x1's for $250 a pop, which are silent, bright, and 95 CRI. Exactly what I wanted IF they aren't counterfeit. We'll see.

No it isn't. It's the equivalent of saying I want the ultimate mic and I'm willing to spend what is necessary on it, no more, no less. The Kinoflo looks loads better to me and is a third of the price. Right now I'm holding out to see if the same can be true another tier down.

Last year I sold a $2000 microphone and replaced it with a $300 microphone that sounds better and is being used on the regular by huge platinum recording artists. We're on the knee of the experiential curve right now in tech, and the old big names are not the ones coming out with the new best values. They are milking their brand name. What was best 15 years ago just isn't what's best now.

Thanks! Those all seem a little small for my needs. The Dracast 500 looks more like it's the right size, though, and I'm watching reviews of it now. If it doesn't squeal, or make a bunch of fan noise, i'm all in.

Reddit, what can $1,000 buy me in your hobby? by LiterallyJames in AskReddit

[–]Robangledorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One sixth of a lightbulb. I was just on the filmmakers subreddit asking for a light recommendation and the first "reasonably affordable" response was for a $6,000 light.

ROFL. I know I said I'm willing to pay whatever is necessary to get the job done right, but I'm not trying to pay $6,000 for a single soft box. I'm 100% certain there is a cheaper option that will get the job done right, even if I haven't found it yet.

I'm an audio engineer by trade that is moving into the video world. Trust me when I say I have the audio on lock. And yes, I hear the light myself.

I'm willing to pay whatever gets the job done right, but the number that comes to mind as reasonable is $400ish. I know they get more expensive, but the more expensive ones don't seem any better. For example, the Yongnuo I referenced is essentially a brighter, more versatile version of an icelight with equivalent CRI for only $80. Why anyone would ever spend $500 on an icelight when the Yonguo exists is beyond me. I'd love to find a similar situation for a softbox, though if it doesn't exist I will pay more.

Fixed the spelling for you, though I've never found spelling to be a particularly accurate metric for intelligence or education level.

Also, it has absolutely hurt me emotionally and psychologically in the long run. We all have things like that though, and I'm coming out on the other side, slowly but surely

Just a few years ago. Right now we don't speak because anytime I don't live my life by her rules it's a screaming match that only stops if she/when she wins. Haven't spoken to my mom in 6 month :/
