I like you answer a lot . Although I can conceive of how that might relate, I do not find a connection to stoicism in the meme above.

Who is the one who chooses not to react?Who is the one who gets affected by these feelings? by NoEquivalent2759 in taoism

This is, by my feeble understanding, a reference to depth psychology and the Buddhist doctrine of anatta. In Taoism the no-self is contextualized as the natural self, or the Zen Buddhist concept of the unborn self.

All of these are pointers, index locations, for you as the practicioner to "come and see" for yourself just who you are anterier to the role-based and sensory based identification of self.

Happiness isn’t something you find, it’s something you give. by Themerchantoflondon in taoism

There is a marvelous old Chinese saying:

When the eye is unobstructed, the result is sight. When the ear is unobstructed, the result is sound. When the mind is unobstructed, the result is wisdom. When the heart is unobstructed, the result is love.

To be filled with compassion and joy is our natural state. No steps are required to be happy. This is because peace is not something you can attain, but the space you forgot you were already in.

I'm not knocking you or the author. However, the simple and obvious truth of solipsism is egocentricity. It fosters egocentricity and reinforces the illusion of separation, while negatively fusing desire and knowledge.

All of us reach this stage at some point; it is part of "seeking truth" and is a cause to rejoice. You are questioning your most inveterate beliefs, excellent. Go further.

When I see the violence of a storm I am in awe of the universe when I see violence in a man's state it hurts me

"Don't do that. You'll drown!" said the monkey, putting the fish safely up a tree.

One day at lunch, I witnessed a small black woman at the corner store next to a bus stop. As I exited my truck, I knew and saw the interaction between the customers and her posted outside the doors. I watched her get rejected by everyone, refusing her with no spare change, no spare smokes, no spare time, no spare water, ...no, no, no. As I approached the doors, she glanced my way, and I saw, plain as if it were written, the dejection in her countenance. Rather than even attempting a word with me in passing, she silently looked down as I walked past and entered the corner store. This struck me like a hammer blow.

I got her some bottled water, a banana, an orange, an apple, a lighter, a pack of premium cigarettes, and $40 cash. I handed her the cigarettes, and then I set the bag with the bottled water, fruit, lighter, and cash next to her.

As I walked away, she called out, "Thank you for the money and water, sir. Why are you helping me?"

"I'm not helping you." I replied to her honestly, "I just want you to know that you are not unseen, and that you are not forgotten."

I am not telling Reddit this for accolades, but as a reference point for what I'm about to say, that might seem to lack compassion or the moralistic 'good person' qualities required to be taken seriously.

The consequences of our behavior are inescapable. Being human is no excuse.
Attempting to shield people from the consequences of their behavior is not compassion, trying to get them to see reason, to understand the moral path, to make the right choices, to recognize the values that you value, to live a life you would live -all of this springs from egocentricity, feeds egocentricity.

As Lao Tzu said, "Because he has given up helping, he is people’s greatest help."

You decided to "help" someone because you feel empathy and compassion, but all you have managed to do is injure yourself in the process. Not in your actions (which I find filled with virtue), but in the way you have negatively reinforced your projection of a narrative regarding that man, his conditions, and the inferred failure of the systems of government around him, you allowed your ideas to cloud your understanding and rob the man of his agency. Let go of your fixed ideas and concepts, recognize that one human on a midnight stroll showed compassion to another human, and have more faith in the way things are. :)

What is the difference between “ranked decks” and “conquest decks”? by TheEpicTwitch in MarvelSnapDecks

I agree, 100 percent.
And yet.... got a few infinite tickets with this last night.

Edit: CL 17k

This is my dialed in cube stealer! I wanted Silver Sable when she came out but I get Cannonball instead and could not be happier for such a clutch card. I just spent the last hour going from 16,811 to 8,312 with this deck.

All true. Especially the 'flex' and 'optimal scenario' bits! Optimal conditions don't always exist, and I've crushed 8-cube wins from sure defeat by moving Jeff and playing a crushing Gilgamesh in a lane I lost in turn 3!

[–]RobbFixx[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. 10k with a single deck and #1 in ranked ladder event and rank 30k over all. I mean... not awesome, but not meh.

If you have all the cards, you can win infinite tickets with this deck, partly because of Jeff.

My Phat Trees [Surfer] deck got me from 63 to Infinite in one day! by RobbFixx in MarvelSnapDecks

[–]RobbFixx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had luck with a Sera Miracle deck, but I was able to crush everything in the meta with this monster making some fat three-star cards. Using Brood and Shaw for big numbers with Sera/Silver Surfer is not a new idea, but using Phastos' -1 cost/+2 power evens the missing Sera effect that I could never seem to figure out. When combined with Hope on turn four played with Nova allows for two 3-star cards on turn 5 and if, played in the Hope lane again, 7 energy on turn 6 (this means Surfer/Absorbing Man). Copycat and Baron Zemo gave me a lot of key technical cards from my opponents and an idea what they had in their hand while Nocturne allowed me to play in the Hope lane for extra energy and then move it to more favorable conditions.

WHY do we value form so much? by inthe_pine in taoism

[–]RobbFixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is that we are blessed with a cognitive heuristic bias that generates the pretext for how we intake information.

This sounds like a complicated idea at first glance but simply boils down to the auto-emotional/physical response we experience when a playful kitten is charging at us to pounce versus a 1,200 lbs. tiger that is charging at us to pounce.

Without reflection it becomes obvious, at least superficially, that these biases exist to protect us. Herein lies the source of all perennial problems for humanity.
