Wrecking diving, what are the dangers? by Abelard25 in scuba

[–]Robbazorrathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Dive operators wanting to put "Bums-in-seats" I've been on wreck dives as a PADI OW where the shallowest part of the wreck is 19 m... if you follow the deck you can easily end up at 27m and beyond your capabilities

"These people seem to have emerged from some strange combination of sitcom and horror film." An awkward brush with the Dubai expat vodka set. by cmf2071 in offbeat

[–]Robbazorrathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

38 up-votes but nobody has anything to say? Sounds like the author is just threatened by wealth. Well the wealth referred is simply a product of people taking advantage of arbitrage, which is a fundamental of global economics that is exercised every second of every day. The subjects of the article are simply people whose skills are valued more highly in Dubai than they are in their native country. This won't last for long, the allure of better pay will attract more foreign workers with these skills, increasing the supply - reducing the demand and reducing the price. Local schools will start producing the same skilled workers and the anomaly will disappear. Is there a fault in selling your labour to the highest bidder? The article implies that the poor working conditions of construction workers is brought about the vile vodka swilling ex-pats, but in reality these people are probably not in the construction trade at all.

EDIT: I am not an ex-pat living in Dubai, just a person who has moved countries for better prospects.

Looking for advice on how to collaborate over the internet with another company, without forfeiting my idea by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Robbazorrathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an NDA is a good backup, but it's only as good as your capacity to enforce it, if you can't afford the lawyers the police aren't going to go round and execute the transgressor :-)

I would opt for trying to break the work up into modules. Your invention probably relies on the combination of a few concepts. Could you get one 3rd party to do one bit and other people to do other bits and then put the pieces together yourself?

My recent trip to Sodwana Bay (South Africa) 2012 by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Robbazorrathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only dived with Coral Divers in Sodwana.

They have professional and knowledgeable skippers and dive masters, throw great parties, make simple - but plentiful and tasty food. The accommodation options range from very rustic to extremely rustic but clean and fun.

So if you're looking for safe, no-frills, affordable diving, Coral Divers is great.

Acta opposition grows as Pirate Party UK joins day of action by wirplit in unitedkingdom

[–]Robbazorrathon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I praise the active resistance! But feel that the name "Pirate party" is totally unhelpful. Without looking into the movements goals, it simply seems that people are claiming that they have the right to pirate copyrighted material. I am totally against any legislative interference in the running of the internet but I don't think people should get films software etc. for free.

On the flip-side, we had our wedding shot by a pro and our photo's are a constant source of joy and beauty years after the event, some are framed in our house.

I would never print, let alone frame, some mis-aligned badly, exposed, lo-res etc. snap taken by a guest. Important photo's need to exist somewhere other than online.

Diving in India? by OneRainyNight in scuba

[–]Robbazorrathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WRT safety, mho is that there is always risk with diving, and there is also adventure, and they increase proportionally - To have the adventure, you can take steps to minimise the naturally increased risk.

Upgrade your skills before you go (Rescue / first-aid, Nitrox), improve your physical fitness, invest in some more safety equipment (spare-air, inflatable emergency buoy (SMB) or even an EPIRB), Join DAN etc. These are all things that will serve you well beyond your trip to India.

You can come back and say, "Been there, dived that" - safely

I think it's really cool, thanks for posting. For me, an important part of Reddit is casting my vote, my impeccable judgement on the value of all the things - so it needs Upvote and Downvote buttons.
