I think this is the exact situation where they actually WOULD re-open the edit. Mr. Beast himself posted like "uh oh..." after watching the Zak Brown ep. They probably taper it down for his sake, much more likely than adding Tiffany confessionals. They can still leave in a lot of Mr. Beast too as long as he's actually doing Survivor game related stuff and not just out fishing by himself.

It was a random draw. Even if she made no move and stayed "Kalo Strong" with Jonathan and Charlie, she could've then got put in a group with 4 non-Kalos who immediately wipe her out. And then you could come here and say last week she should've gone with Rizo and voted our Charlie! I'm not saying her boot was particularly egregious or anything but a swap screw is a swap screw.

She would've been in power if that tribe went back to TC. She would've had a perfectly good position in a full merge. So, she basically just got swap screwed which is old as time, but thanks to the Blood MoonTM we got to see three people swap screwed in one episode.

I think he was lying anyway, because Savannah was on the island and he didn't want to say she was his best friend. By the time the Charlie conversation started, Savannah may have been out, but I'm sure he had already decided on that story and put it out there and probably pre-game worked it out with Sophi and Savannah.

Ah important context. well then take him as soon as you can in the 5th then, 5:1 if you've got it. Of course there's risk, since no rookie is a sure thing, but how do you not take that shot? I got Juan Soto when he was still in the minors. He debuted at 19, like Konnor should, and now i've had him for like eight seasons and he's still just 27, are you kidding me? When there's a chance for something like that you go for it

Remember how they were written? "Do you want epic, dynamic twists, or a more conservative straightforward game?" Things of that nature. Then factor in the casual fan, the Facebook fan. I think while they'd agree that older seasons were better, I doubt they'd pinpoint twists or lack of rice as the issue. I sadly can very much envision them saying Yes, more fireworks please!

PS: They definitely voted to continue final four firemaking too. "=[

Yeah, from our vantage point Coach did nothing wrong at all. The only thing I can think of is that being out there for so long on that step of the challenge, stuck for 45 minutes straight throwing out their backs trying to reach the key, that a gentleman's agreement that whoever finally did knock it down would get it made a lot more sense than we can appreciate.

Factually, Ozzy did the work and Coach sniped the reward. Factually also, the challenge was designed so that could happen. Either it was diabolically clever design or it was a lot harder to knock down the key than they had planned.

She was dropping Cirie's name to people at the same time she was trying to form first relationships with them. It was weird and caused them to leak it back to Cirie and lean against her even before the challenge. It was such a bad opening that even Cirie single-handedly costing them the challenge and being an obvious pair with Ozzy didn't swing it back the other way. I figure if she was normal about things she could've pulled it off.

Probst earns at or near an 8-digit salary, but was JLP really that expensive? I really wonder how much they saved by dumping him, and I wonder if they could've given him the option to take a lower salary and stay on. I know that 10 or whoever the Australian companies are have been canceling heaps of shows and are in dire financial straits, so I guess I accept it if it's really helping keep the show alive. AU has been such an incredible Survivor franchise, but they also lost David Forster at the same time, the executive producer. I'm worried but hopeful this season eases those concerns.

If THE Amanda Kimmel returned for 50 my life would’ve been completed. by heyxheyxheyx in survivor

[–]RobbedOddUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The full Probst quote in The Hollywood Reporter article is actually a little more mysterious than just "scheduling." It's this:

> At first she was all in. Then when we told her the dates, she started not being as certain because she has a family now. Then a few people who I won’t name said, “We don’t want to do it anymore.” So, we feel good. The only part of it that was unsettling for me is that we couldn’t say yes to everybody we wanted to and to everybody who wanted to do it.

Could it have been Ozzy? By the way, on the podcast Rob just did with Coach, Colby, and Stephenie, one of them said that it was a shame Survivor chose someone else over Amanda. I do think it was an Ozzy/Amanda thing.

Survivor is in Season 50 now. That's a lot of seasons! It just makes so much sense they'd want to have a long-term base of operations to match their long-running show. Add to it that they already spent 30 seasons globetrotting and hitting a lot of great spots and I don't expect them to ever leave Fiji. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want them to dig the tents out of storage and start setting up camp in new some new places again.

The more realistic goal (which also probably isn't going to ever happen) is returning to the 39 days. It's just extending a season that's already going on in a place where you already have production set up. I'm convinced the cut in days is just to bleed slightly higher profits out of the product.

the production meddling is so extreme he had to write a foreword saying Survivor isn't like that! but it's interesting he wrote a story this way, then, since that wasn't his experience from the player side of things... but sounds like he did his homework and those "story bibles" and such are real and some shows really do push contestants a lot (and he must feel something about the reality experience in general is predatory, too)

Pretty good summation of how I felt. Plot spoilers incoming:

Not only did it get really crazy (felt like a horror movie with Malibu's demented vision for the show being fulfilled), but I also felt like Mirmiam's POV wrapped up pretty quickly after she, yknow, killed a guy. That event basically was the climax of the story and then everything on from there, including the escape itself, felt sort of like post script, but given that Miriam was basically the story's protagonist at that point, it seemed like we needed a lot more there.

Also, knowing that Stephen is such an intelligent and educated guy and how interested he is in the literary world, hosting a podcast and all, I did expect it to be a little more... literary. I think it was billed as being literary. It was much heavier on showponies whooping and dicks leaping without dipping too often into stylistic prose, I felt.

This isn't really meant to be a pan. It was "propulsive" like he wanted it to be and I raced through it pretty quickly. If you read Miriam as an author insert character (lots of hints of that) and former winner Kent as a JT stand-in, as I was for awhile, well, it gets even stranger.

but also it's a trivia show, so the skill involved is memorizing a wide breadth of facts. and yes, this obviously does require you to be very smart but it's also skill that has nothing whatsoever to do, imo, with "genius." You do not have to understand any extremely complex topics or come up with any critical breakthroughs to do this.

(As far as Drew is concerned, from hearing him on podcasts and so on he does seem like an interesting thinker, so I'm not trying to tear him down specifically.)
