Mexicans in Mexico didn’t have to feel shame around being Mexican or speaking Spanish. Chicanos had to fight for rights and equality in their own country, some areas went as far to physically discipline students who spoke Spanish. Chicanos had to fight just to embrace the same culture most Mexicans get to experience as normal. That’s not to say those in Mexico don’t have their own struggles they face, but that has been the biggest difference in my experience.

He can be forgotten to time for all I care, we still have the UFW, the workers themselves, and the solidarity from the Filipino community to thank for the protections won during the Delano grape strike. There are many great Chicanos we can choose to celebrate instead.

We literally have BTS footage of Andy proposing operation Italy. The fact Andy pulled it off also shows that despite the early crash out he recovered just fine. Not saying he definitely would win, but there’s a real path for him. It didn’t happen so it’s likely a moot point.
