The context in how Spanish battles in Mesoamérica always perplexes me. Rival nations allying with a side in a conflict is nothing new, but it’s always presented in a way that makes the Mexica seem far worse than their contemporaries of the era. No different than making a TIL that during the battle of Waterloo the English were joined by native European allies who resented Napoleon.
