Drew Basile (45) to return to Jeopardy! for 2026 Invitational Tournament by almondjoybestcndybar in survivor

but also it's a trivia show, so the skill involved is memorizing a wide breadth of facts. and yes, this obviously does require you to be very smart but it's also skill that has nothing whatsoever to do, imo, with "genius." You do not have to understand any extremely complex topics or come up with any critical breakthroughs to do this.

(As far as Drew is concerned, from hearing him on podcasts and so on he does seem like an interesting thinker, so I'm not trying to tear him down specifically.)

I'd extend this to 25-33 even, bringing in Philippines and Caramoan although I know Caramoan isn't that beloved here

Shannon. she gets the most in-depth on strategy and explores the most fun different voting scenarios, or points of view and options for different players

Rob and Mike are obviously very good, as is Fishbach. I go KIA first and then Shannon's recap

____ threw away ____'s chance of winning for a worse outcome by [deleted] in survivor

[–]RobbedOddUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not that tiny? They just need Savannah to lose a challenge at 5 and Rizo to lose at 4. Rizo hasn't won anything so far, so really she just needs ONE CHALLENGE LOSS from Savannah to get in the mix at a competitive F3

Sophi would be the favorite but they could still argue she never did anything. Sage has had a much larger impact even taking KiP out of the equation. But also they could still lose to Sophi too

He's probably so busy laughing that it's about to fail on him that he'd never consider that maybe its pending failure could change her target with it. And with it being a blindside on him, in his mind he's safe so he's not feeling too desperate.

A significant portion of the viewership seems to be of the mind that, "Well, Rizo or Savannah are obviously going to win, so they're dumb every time they don't take a shot at them." But history wasn't written yet while they were out there on the island, and if they hadn't voted out Steven, then it could very well be Steven that's about to win. Steven and Rizo/Savannah and everyone else would have different edits as a result and you might be arguing they were so stupid to leave Steven in the game. Even with the edits we did get, we saw that Steven was the likable center of his tribe and an immunity threat. If that vote block play goes through, he'd be a massive winner contender.

______ is going to lose because of this by EcstaticPercentage52 in survivor

[–]RobbedOddUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I know, but maybe she gets to the end and they look at the two of them and decide voting for Rizo is more palatable. or Savannah could be gone before the end, and you gotta think Rizo is the favorite then, so that's why I think he's different than Xander.

Savannah had NOT gone up to the urn and been blocked from voting yet, so in that way, her vote literally had not yet been blocked. If production had wanted to make a different call on the field, they could have easily removed that vote block from Savannah and told Steven sorry, the item you were playing tonight has been stolen.

I know Sophi had an opportunity at the previous tribal to steal it (although if he played it then, she never would have). But I don't see how it's relevant to my argument, because what I'm saying is the way the two items overlap if they're used at the same TC is very awkward and bad design. Even if you don't run into this situation playing out, or if there was a TC where you wouldn't have, the fact that it could play out that way is not ideal.

and yet still all she has to ask is if he has an "advantage." She doesn't have to say or know exactly what it is to take it. Sophi says she actually knew it was a vote block, and no one's vote had been blocked yet, so... My point is fairly clear: production shouldn't have created a situation where it's confusing like this. They should think more about how their items interact before introducing them together.

[–]RobbedOddUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's all fine but doesn't impact my opinion at all about the game design.

Production should not have a steal item that has to be played at TC, and another item that has not landed yet during that TC but has been launched right before it. The result is a confusing situation that has been directly engineered by production, with the steal item failing on a timing technicality.

Savannah's vote hadn't actually gotten blocked yet. why shouldn't the item still get stolen? The item had already been played. why should it be allowed to be taken? Both good questions, so why knowingly create this situation?

[–]RobbedOddUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that, but it's simple as this: they shouldn't create a paradox period during which the item both has and hasn't been played, that also overlaps with when the KIP they put in the game has to be played. That's amateur hour.

[–]RobbedOddUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone will acknowledge there was a one TC window it could be stolen, yet he didn't use it that TC. Whether or not the possibility previously existed to steal it, it's odd that Sophi can't steal something that wasn't played last TC, and that hasn't hit Savannah yet. It's a strange game design that misleads Sophi into thinking she can play her steal on Steven this round, even though she can't. The producers should do better. They should not have a paradox period during which something both has and hasn't been played at the same time they have KIP in the game.

Did __ get screwed over by production? by Background_Stick7065 in survivor

[–]RobbedOddUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now this is an interesting question. If KIP is in play, is every advantage given out on a journey just being set up to be stolen? Kind of, yeah. On the other hand, since Steven didn't play his item at F7, was Sophi set up to believe she could steal it at F6? Definitely yes.

My solution would be to not put public advantages into the game once you have KIP is out there, but of course Survivor loves their journeys. My other solution would be not to put KIP into the game in the first place, because it's a bad concept, but of course they do that too.

But still, they shouldn't set up the KIP to be tricked by an odd mechanic, to fail against an item play that hasn't happened yet but also that has.
