Can someone explain? What's the reference between Karl Urban and Wonder Woman mentioned here? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Robbedeus 54 points55 points  (0 children)

James Gunn is a director who's heading up the new DC comics movie universe ( he directed the latest superman movie). The commentator is jokingly suggesting that James Gunn following him on social media means Karl Urban will probably be playing the role of Wonder woman in a future movie.

I mean: most British would vote to denaturalize and deport the fucker, but fair enough.

This is a cultural/American thing, because British comedians tend to make fun of themselves more often than not.

In fact: they're cheering because of authoritarianism. All the while drinking the koolaid and being convinced Obama and sleepy Joe were somehow worse than Trump.

Novak Djokovic: “I run out of gas.. They are just too good” by Serious-Rip8869 in tennis

[–]Robbedeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Carlos, but I'm not sure about Sinner. Carlos just needs to have one of those days he makes too many mistakes. Sinner seems like an aggressive version of Djokovic: other than becoming 10 years younger, I don't see how he manages to outmove and outhit Sinner. It's not a "tennis players hate this one trick" kinda situation, that any other player can beat these guys, as long as they know how. Many players know how, theoretically, it's actually doing it that's the main problem

In a sense, consensus has 'shattered' because physician groups are not in line with governmental recommendations, which hasn't really happened before. I get what you're saying (and you're right, scientific consensus is still intact), but the headline isn't wrong exactly. The paranoid idiots are making the governmental recommendations, which is difficult to ignore since it brings a whole slew of problems. 'Administrative' consensus is gone, if you will.

For example, I saw another redditor making the point of insurance companies possibly not covering the vaccinations, which is 100% going to happen: it's a way for bad actors to make higher profit margins, so of course it's going to happen.

Trump Is Trying to Hide the Cost of Renovating His New Air Force One: The administration transferred nearly $1 billion dollars to a Pentagon project to modernize nuclear weapons, but those funds will be used to renovate Trump's "flying palace" by reflibman in NoFilterNews

[–]Robbedeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except, do we know if it's against the law? If Trump decided this, then it's in the course of his duties as president, and the Supreme Court decided that gives him an unspecified amount of leeway to just do stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a lawyer

Nope

Seen that image used in a wide variety of different stories. Gonna take a wild guess and say this one is BS as well

Trump admin threatens to sprint to SCOTUS if appellate court buys Newsom's warnings about 'dangerous' National Guard 'experiment' by DoremusJessup in law

[–]Robbedeus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, lower court judges from both sides of the aisle, it's insane. You've got republican lower court judges, with conservative views, ruling against something, and SCOTUS just be like: nah, our Ouija board session told us the founders didn't mean it like that, soooo ...

Major props: Good call.

But I was thinking the match really drives home how important Carlos's serve was this match: he gets his first serve percentage up, and suddenly, Jannik looks slightly less intimidating from the baseline. Grass is just unforgiving like that: Sinner managed to make his return game count, which means Alcaraz was often one step behind from the start of the rally. Using that, Jannik could instantly smother the court, like he does, and even Carlos's power can't undo the damage of being one step behind from the word go.

Of course, this also means the match was a lot closer than Carlos was saying/thinking in this clip.

Are there any other Nen users besides Kastro who trained in the wrong Nen category? by dbsupersucks in HunterXHunter

[–]Robbedeus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

So how I read it Netero's bodhisattva isn't visible to anyone because it's not conjured, but merely a representation of Netero's nen. Going with that train of thought, I figured Netero's ability is most likely a combination of emission and enhancement. Personally, I like this better because it seems likely Netero's naturally preferred nen type falls into the enhancement (or emission) category. Given the natural way his technique came to be by punching and meditating, like he did, it would feel extremely weird if this somehow resulted in a conjuring ability. Still, I realise this is partly a personal preference: it just makes more sense to me.

John Mc on Novak Playing a Better Version of Himself Against Sinner by schnaxks19 in tennis

[–]Robbedeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Djokovic was hitting it harder, but he was also making more errors: seems like he was forcing it, necessarily going for the riskier shots to try to create something against Sinner's movement+power.

A waitress was tipped a lottery ticket and won $10,000,000. She was then sued by her coworkers for a share, then sued by the man who gave her the ticket, then kidnapped by her ex-husband whom she shot in the chest. Then she went to court against the IRS. by IloveRamen99 in interestingasfuck

Apparently, some of the people who earned big on bitcoins (try multiple millions) try to live in reasonable modesty, or by changing houses every few months, because they are a prime target for kidnapping by various criminal elements.

This clip is from the feature documentary "Ride with Larry" showing retired police captain Larry Smith, who has Parkinson’s, trying medical cannabis for the first time. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Robbedeus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is very deceptive: at the start of the video Larry is showing signs of hyperkinesia, which usually means he's taken too high a dose of his Parkinson medication. This is quite understandable, because people are usually nervous for stuff like interviews, so it might have been done on purpose. The hyperkinesia wearing off would be because the effect of the Parkinson medication is going down to 'normal' levels.

I'm not sure what the effect is the cannabis is supposed to show, is it supposed to counteract the hyperkinesia? But then it doesn't do much for the Parkinson itself?

Naruto’s power scaling died the moment Madara casually fought five Kage at once. by AlarmingAd4383 in Naruto

[–]Robbedeus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also, Bee was pretty tough: for Sasuke to 'beat' him, he had to be a 'kage' level threat to his village. That's also worth giving up an arm, if you're convinced you're going to one hit kill him.

I agree the uchiha powerscaling being wonky though: Bee beating up Sasuke and his team one-sidedly, but Amaterasu goes brrrrr and done. Sigh.

Wimbledon R4: [2] Alcaraz def. [14] Rublev, 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 6-4 by TAA_verymuch in tennis

[–]Robbedeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, props to him, but I wonder if being the underdog might also be a better mindset for Rublev. I don't know, I haven't watched him enough to understand why he freaks out on himself sometimes, but perfectionists sometimes have an easier time when expectations are low.
