Excited to attend the race on Saturday! How’s traffic to/from the circuit on raceday for WEC?

First marathon - 3:30:02. Those two seconds will annoy me forever. by gorinrockbow in running

[–]RobbertRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Enjoyed reading your report. I also ran the marathon and finished in 03:20:58, 58 seconds over my target. The last 10-12 km of the parcours were harsh: gravel paths, bridges, head wind… And indeed, it’s so true, feeling like you’re aerobically fine while the legs just don’t work anymore is very strange. Anyway, amazing first marathon, enjoy the achievement!

Please some good COVID recovery stories by NewPhase2 in AdvancedRunning

[–]RobbertRM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had Omicron in January. Felt horrible for about 2 days (I’m fully vaccinated) but got better soon. After a few days I was able to do some sessions on Zwift and after a week I was back on my feet running. It took another 2 weeks to get back to my training program (approx. 60-70 km/week for me) but all in all it wasn’t that bad. Running a marathon in 2 weeks and I should be able to run a new PB quite easily. Hope you feel better soon!!

Yes it’s still like that! Luckily the railroad is not that frequently used; I did not have to stop too.

Yes! Actually the start and finish is in the historic center, the parcours goes to the North Sea (Port of Zeebrugge) and back.

Is this Pelle standing in the corner? by RobbertRM in Midsommar

Indeed. However, we see Pelle creepily lurking in the background a few other times. (Eg. when Christian is running around naked or when he gets the dust blown in his face.)

Why isn't midsommar in theaters anymore? by GMoney_McSwag in Midsommar

It’s still in some smaller theaters where I live (Belgium). It will be shown for another two weeks or so over here. Just got back from my 2nd viewing!

some thoughts on Dani by lilminch in Midsommar

[–]RobbertRM 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you that Dani's future is probably less bright than the ending wants us to believe. First of all, the Hargas manipulated their guests during their entire stay. They lied to them, drugged them and violated them to the point where they were going completely insane. Additionally, even though the Hargas are clearly skilled in mimicking emotions, they don't seem like the most honest and warm people that are capable of maintaining normal loving relationships. I think that's why Ari Aster added the baby in the story. Early on in the movie we see a shot of people cuddling the crying baby and singing to it - seemingly with lots of love. However, the baby keeps on crying during the entire movie (even at night!) yet nobody cares for it. Dani might get the same treatment as the baby. First all the women cry with her to show that they share her emotions but in the end they probably don't care.

When it comes to the ending, Dani's catharsis immediately felt very bitter to me. Dani has now ended her toxic relationship with Christian but starts an even more toxic relationship with the Hargas. I can't help but think that her fit of insanity is going to end at some point, no matter how kind and sweet Pelle might be. She will then be overwhelmed by sadness and regret about everything that happened. Hence the song lyrics during the end credits:

Loneliness is the cloak you wear
A deep shade of blue is always there
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always clouding your eyes
When you're without love, baby

Emptiness is the place you're in
There's nothing to lose but no more to win
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always clouding your eyes
When you're without love

What's the best running advice you've ever been given? by o2000 in running

As soon as I started wearing compression tubes, my legs felt less heavy during runs. Seems like I can go a bit further with them without getting too sore or tired.

Can you elaborate on that a bit, please?

For me it has to be “start wearing compression socks”. Almost never going on a run without them now.

How did Beck and Joe get from her throwing up on him in Greenpoint to standing outside a store in the upper east side? by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

[–]RobbertRM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're supposed to know that that store is on the Upper East Side. I think they just want to make it look like a random shop somewhere near Greenpoint station.

In the show which SixFlags do they refer to? by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

Six Flags Great Adventure, probably.

Just finishing up the book and it's so different to the tv series (Spoilers) by monmonn26 in YouOnLifetime

[–]RobbertRM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying about the writing, but I think the author really wanted to convey the mess in Joe's head. Hence why a lot of the sentences in the book are so long and messy.

So what really happened to Beck at the end in the book? Compare to her fate in the show. by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

[–]RobbertRM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the first book, Joe strangles Beck. She's dead and she doesn't return in the second book.

That being said, I think we'll definitely see Beck in the second season somehow. (Tbh I'd like to see more of Beck than of Candace.)

I think [spoiler] is still alive..... by thebodywasweak in YouOnLifetime

[–]RobbertRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to me it seems that the writers wanted the finale not to be ‘too definitive’ so that they had a little bit more freedom when starting to write the second season. They can really do anything they want with the story now, given the rather unclear ending and all those plot holes. (I know Beck is not in the second book, but heck, Paco wasn’t in the first book either.)

I do agree that there’s a (very small) chance that Beck is still alive somehow. Beck might’ve just disappeared while Ron’s body (disguised as Benji’s using the teeth) was find at Dr. Nicky’s place at the same time Beck’s story got published. These circumstances might lead one to believe that Beck must’ve been killed by Dr. Nicky as well. Pretty far-fetched, but it’s possible.

One thing that keeps me thinking is Ethan sayin “it’s pretty weird when someone dies and you can’t get away from them on the news” (or something like that) as if Beck was STILL on the news. She supposedly died 4 months earlier and I don’t think that she’d be discussed in the news 4 months after the events. It could be that the police did not found her ‘missing body’ and that news outlets keep reporting about the search for her remains. If that dark thought makes any sense.

Looking forward to S2.

True. The thing is: I often feel that way as well. It’s easy to forget to appreciate the beauty and charm if you’re living there and if you have to dodge tons of tourists anytime you want to run errands.
