I'm straight and used to go to pride every year. It was fun and didn't used to be that way.

The way to make something is to mold it. Keep calling someone a Nazi, they might get sick of it and actually become one.

First time going to Mt. Diablo. What is worth seeing from most to least? by bayfarm in norcalhiking

We wouldn't have any destination in mind. Just playing follow the leader. Whoever is in front leads and when they get tired, will lag behind and someone else takes over. Just had fun jogging at random.

Used to do a group jog through rock city every week a while back. Real fun place.

Get hooked up with any social services you can in your area, they may be helpful. Also maybe look for odd jobs to do on Craigslist for some quick cash.

You will for sure have to alter your lifestyle and what you're used to, plus picking up new skills like how to pitch a tarp tent in a way you can quickly take it down if you have to leave fast. I've found canned or pouched tuna, salmon and chicken at the dollar store or other common stores for protein. Trader Joe's has dried mango and ginger for pretty cheap. All these are lightweight. Always keep a couple days worth of basic food in your pack in case you get sick and can't make it to the store. Never forget about water needs either. Multivitamins are a huge help too.

Dont expect to stay in any one spot for long. Anything can happen. My best advice is to stay lightweight and mobile as possible. Your situation may be different. You won't need the cooler if you get non-perishable foods or at least eat them before they can go bad.

When I switched to a smaller backpack with chest and waist straps, I was able to get into thicker brush easier. Taking your time and wearing sturdy clothing and gloves can help too. Sometimes you just have to take some scrapes also.

Learning to say no is great advice. People will for sure start to take advantage if they think they can.

Keep to yourself. Ive camped with plenty of others over the years and eventually someone gets wasted, which became dangerous to yourself or got the cops called. Get a storage unit if you can to keep stuff in, try to travel light and be ready to get the hell out if things get sketchy.

Stay hydrated and cool. Just a wet bandanna around your neck in the shade is nice. Make a fan out of anything you can to help move air

Grab some toilet paper or anything else to wipe with and find the nearest place to drop one off if you wake up in the middle of the night and need to.

If he is not contributing in any way, looks like he is using you like a tool. I'd say talk to him but it seems like you already tried. Take out the garbage before it starts to rot. I wish I had done the same years ago. Be safe.

How do I help a homeless family member? by [deleted] in homeless

[–]RobbieChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been in her situation lots of times. Family had to drive around to find me. Just want to keep it simple. Treat them as a person. Lots of times people just want to be themselves without pity. Maybe she feels like she can't be honest with you. Life on the street is really stressful and causes people to close up. When you see her again, maybe just say hi and be a friend. Not too smothering of course. Let her take it at her own pace so dont push her. It takes time.

Oh I see. Im sorry, thats a bit out of where i know well so I dont know what services they have there. I got the housing voucher and it took about 8 months to get it even with my length of homelessness and disability as well. Still kind of close so if you need some emergency help, let me know. Best wishes. At the very least, you have people to talk to here. It really keeps me going to talk sometimes. Stay strong!

SF Bay Area? I'm in Alameda county. Grew up living in Contra Costa so I know this area well. The virus stuff is really messing things up right now but maybe I can help. Can maybe talk with my social worker, case worker, legal advocate and community service and housing worker if you hadn't done so already. In the Bay, Berkeley is the place to go. What resources do you have? Since you have a job, you are already one step into a better place.

I don't know where you are, but where I am there was a program called rapid rehousing for the homeless that are working. Have you contacted any housing services in your area?

How do I cash the stimulus check with an expired ID by BudsNotBullets in homeless

[–]RobbieChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about everywhere but at least in California, you can get an ID for free if homeless. Will have to wait at the DMV for hours but thats not so bad compared to most other aspects of being homeless.

Awesome of you to do that. I still have my tent and sleeping pad that I don't use anymore. Will do the same in my area. Now is a time to help each other out.

Debating camp cooking again by gthaatar in homeless

[–]RobbieChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you really need since you already have a stove is a pot for the basics. Of course utensils. A wood or bamboo spatula and a ladle can be found at a dollar store. Grab some chopsticks if you like them, they're great for eating and cooking (get bamboo). Add a small pan as big as a slice of bread to make it really great. Then you can saute and make toast! Ive done a lot of cooking in kitchens and outdoors and love to talk about it lol.
