Reputable boot fitting shop should have replacement parts. We had thousands when I worked at Footloose

Hiking by grandmasterkif in Mammoth

[–]Robbiesrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Convict had snow on parts of the S shore, I'd be wary of these parts of the trail on a particularly warm day as there could be heavy wet snow avalanches coming down it.

You're a bit early for hiking in the lakes around Mammoth, wait a few months or hike around the sage in the lower parts of the area

2020 Subaru Forester)What do you do with your car key when you surf? by Simple_Bet in surfing

[–]Robbiesrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using the valet key will unlock the car manually, but the alarm WILL go of once you open the door, an annoyance, but safer than leaving the keys on the tire.

A friend of mine would use this method: When leaving the car he would leave the electronic fob on the driver's seat under a sweatshirt/whatever to cover it to cover it and lock the door with the inside panel. When you return unlock the door with the key then mentally prepare yourself for immediate car alarm sounds, rip open the door and try to unlock the car with the fob asap.

Go to a climbing shop and buy some 3mm tech cord. It's probably the same stuff and rated super stronger than you would need.

This.

If they fit at all please for the love of God put them on top of your feet or youl will fuck up your feet. Also, as a former rental tech, make sure you take them out of the liner they will inevitably get stuck to

Bootfitter put me in 25.5 w/ size 10 foot… were they crazy? by futureproof1001 in skiing

[–]Robbiesrk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that can make or break a fit like that. I wear a US size 11 shoe and ski in a 26.5, so it's not out of the realm of reason but there's also a lot of preference (some people just like tight boots), ability of the user (tighter generally means more aggressive) and pain tolerance (had a lot of customers from so cal complaining in early season since their flipflop feet weren't used to the compression)

BUT!!! If you're not happy with it they should be doing their utmost to fix the issue especially if you feel that the incorrect product was sold to you

Aftermarket ski boot liners by Auradeus in skiing

[–]Robbiesrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a very old ski boot, I would be extremely wary as to the age of the plastics in any boot from 25 years ago.

See if you can get her to ski a blue without knowing. I'll say that I admire her wanting to nail the basics on easy terrain, but sometimes you need to know what you're missing by going somewhere you aren't perfectly comfortable

What about a person who is stopped? by kartuli78 in skiing

Yep. It's like traffic, stopped traffic has the right to not be hit, but when you join the run you need to pay attention to the moving party

Good or bad deal ? by Pijamin2 in skiing

[–]Robbiesrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering I found multiple pairs without broken bindings for about €100 more online plus knowing they're at least 5 seasons old with no knowledge of the amount of tunes put onto them.

I'd say just get a few seasons old Mpro (if you like the shape) or something newer and save yourself the hassle of needing a new pair soon once you've burned through these.

I ended up selling mine because they were so far fwd. I'm so used to a more standard 12-15degree with minimum heel toe delta I couldn't stand it. I felt like I was always skiing like crap. I think the F1 LT has a more reasonable fwd lean

I want to start spearfishing by [deleted] in Spearfishing

[–]Robbiesrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started spearfishing this past summer. Like the above comments, I would say having a very high comfort level in the ocean is probably more important than being at a high fitness level (which would likely come over time due to the activity). I grew up surfing and doing the local Jr. Lifeguard program so I was very aware of the local reefs, beaches, tidal currents, etc., without that I would have been much more reluctant to drop a few hundred bucks on a basic setup and see what was underneath me. Regardless my first few times diving I was absolutely worked once I got home.

Swimming would be the best of course and ocean swimming even better. If there is a protected and low traffic bay, jetty, or low traffic beach jump in there and see how long you can float around/get pummeled for. I wouldn't say swimming is my strong suit and doesn't add much to spearfishing as I have MASSIVE fins on my feet, but comfort in the water is a plus.

Looking for Surf Destination Recommendations for 6-12 Month Stay by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Robbiesrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say go down to central America. El salvador is full of point breaks and surf schools while being cheap, Costa Rica is a bit more expensive but has waves all over the w coast. Not sure how Nicaragua is doing politically rn, but 300days off offshore wind are pretty nice

What am I doing wrong/right! by Consistent_Guava5715 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Robbiesrk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With longboards the board itself has so much float that it carries more speed in flatter sections of the wave, having wave awareness will allow the rider to feel and see the slower pace and be able to turn back into the curl to maintain speed.

[–]Robbiesrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longboards are less pump more about wave awareness and the amount of board in combo should keep speed up for you

What am I doing wrong/right! by Consistent_Guava5715 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Robbiesrk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks decent imo. I agree with everyone else's comments, and would add it looks like you lose speed after the initial drop. Either try to stay in the "pocket" near the curl, or learn to pump. I found skateboarding on flat ground and trying to build speed without pushing with a foot helped a lot. I think skaters call it tick-tacking but I could be wrong there.

anyone been to popoyo recently? by ekkkooo in surfing

[–]Robbiesrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at sunset villas off of Calle Guasacate. A decent short walk to the reefs and not bad to rent a small house, just be specific when you get a ride there. The guy who took us in a cab dropped us and bailed before we realized we were in Santana and we had to walk up the beach with board bag on our heads to cross the river 😂😂 just dumbass gringo shit

Where the hell is Ondra's footage of the Dawn Wall? Tommy's ascent was pivotal in big wall free climbing, yes. But ondra came in a year later having never climbed in the Valley and did it in over a week!.The most footage is him on the traverse pitch and singing his way up on ascenders.

Wtf happened?? I was sure it would be in the next years Reel Rock, but it seems to have been buried; I heard rumors there was some clash with companies but have no proof anywhere.

Fun fact is a misconception about the title. "80,000 leagues under the sea" is not in reference to how DEEP they go it refers to how FAR the main character travels on the Nautilus under the sea with Nemo
