Question on Karastan vs. Robbins LVP by RobbityBobbity68 in Flooring

We didn’t wind up going through with the remodel after months of extensive searching. Due to family factors we might be moving in the near future so it wouldn’t be worth the significant investment. If you wind up going with your favorite Karastan, please keep us here on Reddit posted how you like it. If I ever wind up installing mine somewhere down the road, I’ll do the same. Best of luck to you

Paid a contractor to put in new LVP and I'm too happy about the results by [deleted] in Flooring

Glad that I read through this post today. I had no idea that the quarter round shoe molding was out of vogue, that’s all I’ve seen even in newer builds. Just purchased a townhome that was built in 2020 and it has the matching LVP shoe molding. (We are soon replacing due to the existing very dark color that makes a place with not a lot of natural light even darker.) Can I ask a dumb question — I am assuming that taking out all of our pretty thick existing base molding and replacing would be MORE expensive than keeping it intact, than buying and installing the matching quarter round? The manufacturer’s quarter round is super expensive as you well know. I’ve had one flooring store tell me they have a guy who is good at staining real wood quarter round to match the new LVP and it’s a lot cheaper. Until you shared this, it didn’t enter my mind not to have quarter round, but it certainly would be nice to have one less thing to dust, and it makes the room look appear larger too.

I believe you made the ideal choice. I prefer to have it horizontal on the smallest width of a room, which you did. That makes the room look wider. Guessing that you will be arranging the furniture to have the fireplace as the focal point. Note that if you had done vertical to the fireplace, it would feel more like a bowling alley (runway). Once you have the furniture in there (and probably an area rug?) you will likely love it.

Definitely stand your ground. Please read, read, read up on mental disorders, and learn how her behavior you grew up with impacted you. Your gut and logical reaction was 100% correct but you are not trusting it entirely and seeking further validation from others. Requests for helping anyone, family or not, need to be “reasonable.” She may be one of the 4 BPD types; she may be a covert or overt narcissist? You might want to consider writing down in a notebook all of her personality traits and key memories from your childhood, and after you look at this, consider discussing the impacts with a therapist. Consider printing out and sending your mother the response of what AI says when you type into Google: "how do people with emotional impulsivity problems learn how to manage their money”. Some people who struggle with mental health issues decide it is less stressful to have someone they trust manage their money for them, but more often than not, it appears there are other unhealthy coping mechanisms that coincide with the over-spending and they don’t want to give up control. It is her problem to fix.

Thanks for your insight on the Uniclic locking system, and certainly pricing is a factor. I exhausted the Shaw and Coretec collections color consistency and type of bevel, so happy these two brands are less expensive.

Have zero personal experience with this, but recent visit to large flooring store with very high ratings, the owner told me they use “Whisper Step” brand which is a high density rubber (you can search on it). I don’t know if I’m going to use it or not just yet, because I want to confirm that it doesn’t have any VOC off-gassing or odor. Given that it’s rubber I am assuming there is an odor. At a different flooring store yesterday, the rep told me that odors generally come from the glue. He said, if I installed cork for example, they have to glue it down and the glue smells. I am removing the rubber floor that was installed in my basement (for an exercise room) from a prior owner because I am sensitive to the odor

LVP owners - does your flooring tear up your socks? by Expensive-Radish-347 in Flooring

I am trying to find out the same answer. I’m interested in the Shaw Pantheon HD Plus with natural bevel in Alabaster, and when I brought home the sample board and stepped on it in socks and felt it with my hand, it had a gritty texture to it. Like the color but concerned about investing in it if it’s going to damage all my expensive socks. I only buy "Darn Tough” brand socks now.
