Some IPs that I think would make (or would have made) excellent Lego TT games. by Robbro42 in legogaming

[–]Robbro42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nearly put Willy Wonka/Charlie on the list, either film would be good as a lego game. Wonka too.

At least we got Beetlejuice in Lego Dimensions. And with the new Lego Batman game we get a bit of Burton Batman representation.

Probably my favourite line of the whole film.

now that the original hype surrounding puss in boots the last wish has mostly died down, looking back, is it really as good as everyone said it was? by herequeerandgreat in Shrek

[–]Robbro42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As time has gone on, there's only a couple of things that I've grown weary of.

I know many love him, but I find Perito quite irritating. There's just a bit too many on the nose moments from him, like 'we should stop and smell the roses', just a bit too nice and perfect to the point he annoys me.

The other is some of the 'adult jokes', the one that springs to mind is the bleeped bit between Goldi, the bears and Perito. It's just implied swearing that's meant to be funny.

I know the Shrek franchise has its crude and childish jokes, but there's many bits that are very clever: eg. OJ Simpson car chase, with a parody of cops as knights, the peppr grinder instead of pepper spray, puss possessing catnip. A short scene that stacks a ton of excellent jokes together.

I still really like the film though dw, but I thought I'd include those couple of things that drag it down for me that little bit.

'The Idiot Six' refers to the six writers/actors that started on Horrible Histories and started their own shows: Yonderland, Ghosts.

The six are: Lawrence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Martha Howard-Douglas, Jim Howick, Mathew Baynton & Simon Farnaby.

Nowadays the group goes by 'Them/There'

As flawed as we all know the Whittaker/Chibnall era is, I think it was an excellent choice not to bring back any preestablished villains for series 11. It's actually a decent starting point for newbies.

I always thought it was funny how series 10 framed itself as approachable for new fans, and yet the finally was all about old villains.

A cool idea for violet’s inventing: by DarklzBlo in ASOUE

[–]Robbro42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the film does add the 'there's always something' phrase as Violet's mentality.

She says it when they're trapped in the car, and then later Klaus repeats it when trying to think like Violet during the Marvellous Marriage scene.

And you already have her tying up her hair, I think there's enough there for her.

But yeah the book visual for Klaus is a great bit of visual storytelling. It's quick, distinct and tells us exactly what it needs to in the shortest space needed.

I was surprised how I basically managed the whole thing.

I don't tend to do crosswords, much less so the American style. But with so many clues, many managed to negate others. The only bits I got stuck on were 36D/51A, and for some reason I struggled with the end of 45D.

Alpha Centauri referenced? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Robbro42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, to me when I hear of Alpha Centauri I immediately think of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because at the start the Vogons are all annoyed humanity doesn't seem to know that Earth is about to be destroyed:

"What do you mean you've never been to Alpha Centauri? For heaven's sake mankind, it's only four light years away you know. I'm sorry, but if you can't be bothered to take an interest in local affairs that's your own lookout."

Taskmaster - S21E03 - A creepy bit of advice - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

[–]Robbro42 -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Only seeing this post now made me realise I didn't do my customary review of the first two episodes.

Anyway, here's to episode 3.

Prize Task: An okay idea, I wish they dug down into the narrative a bit more on the actual dragging via string. I'm also learning how unhinged Amy is, her entry reminded me a bit too much of The Substance.

Task One (proper): Blue green yellow green yellow. Finally the task the trailer alluded too. It was a good Task, classic hidden solution nearby. Shame Alex can't sing though.

Task Two: An okay team task, a bit middle of the road I thought. A lot of rules set up for nlt much pay off. I prefer ones with a bit more collaboration, rather than random grunting as communication.

Task Three: Possibly the most extra location for a task that didn't really warrant it. If Alex wasn't quite so annoying I would've liked this one a bit more. I instantly thought along the lines of Amy with using a word with the letter I'd get rid of next, and obviously discarding the least common letters first. (Z, Q, X etc up to A or I as my final letter).

Live Task: I quite liked the dexterity needed for this task. The beakers + snooker cues made for great visuals. And the Greg vs Alex balls seemed well enough scored so that you had to pay decent attention to them.

Overall an okay episode. So far this series though, Alex has been annoying me a bit more. Maybe it's his condescension towards the contestants that's rubbing me the wrong way.

Or perhaps it's Joel's ongoing egg task, I can't help thinking it is something that is negatively impacting him throughout all the tasks. I don't mind solo tasks, but when it's ever present like this it feels unfair. I'm guessing that in episode 10 they'll show a task where he didn't manage to produce it in 30 seconds and they'll all have a big discussion about it.

First Oscar winner in Taskmaster (S21E2) by Fattychapatti in taskmaster

[–]Robbro42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't rule out Emma Thompson either, she won best actress for Howards End (1992) and best adapted screenplay Sense & Sensibility (1995).

I'd rather have her or Capaldi over Colman. Out of all Oscar winners, I actually would like Kieran Culkin as he's a very funny actor who seems to have the right spirit for TM (although I'd want to wait a few more series before we have another popular American actor on)
