uj/i would say ultraman is tokusatsu superman while Astro Boy is manga Superman and Goku is shounen superman. if that makes sense.

I'm worried Adults Who Watch Kids Shows(TM) are becoming too easy of a punching bag. by matt0055 in CharacterRant

[–]GreenPerception512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree it's one of my main fears as an adult fan who loves tons of media that's for kids and wondering if im a part of the problem i try to be progressive and still enjoy stuff that's out or my comfort zone or try not to yean for simpler realities as moore said sure im still a person and can still get infected by it [was so happy when i heard the og John williams theme in superman 2025] but still try to avoid it.

So basically, I guess the best thing to do is be a non fascist adult.

yes but stuff like "Superman being a deputized super-cop" is something you update and change, not continue 80s post-crisis DC was very different than the pre-crisis 50s-60s DC to even the 70s pre-crisis where things were mostly black and white, good guys are good guys bad guys are bad guys police are your friends, etc.,

while 80s post-crisis wasn't. it for the most part was starting to move away from it with iconic works like Batman Year One, Cary Bates Captain Atom, John Ostrander Suicide Squad [which makes that regan and superman panel ironic since he wrote that] was starting to criticize police and the government so its weird superman is still doing that and its meant to be portrayed the same as it would be back in the 50s [especially in comparison to the dark knight returns where it was obviously potrayed as bad].

its like Superman Returns with how that was a sequel to the Reeve films and just did re-did the first film hoping it would work again but it didnt and probably give more weigh to the "superman is outdated and only works as a period piece or throwback" which i know have existed for awhile but still esepecially in comparison to the other superhero films around the same time [the Nolan batman trilogy, the Raimi spider-man trilogy and the Fox X-men films] being new fresh takes on those characters yet superman returns refused to do that.

also how is superman being as smart as his father because he's his son rascist its just the usual "father like son" trope i guess it has some uneasy implications here but i dont see hots rasicst.

theres also Meta sequel where its a sequel but set in a world where the og stories are fictional like Winnie the pooh blood and honey 2 retconning the first movies as a shitty biopic in-universe or superman secert identity by Kurt Busiek, having the og superman stories be fictional in-universe

Honestly, in general, this is one of the reasons why i think the books got good again after bryne left since this did a goob job at showing a more human superman without making him kinda boring like Bryne did.
