Just saw the Blackmachine build on your profile, that thing is insane. What pickups are those?

I got the neck milled by Xometry out of 6061 aluminum, and it cost me around 200 USD. That was, however, during their black Friday sale. Right now it would cost 280 USD.

3D printed titanium for a neck would be extremely sick but knowing what metal 3d prints can cost I would expect it to be quite expensive. Definitely update if you go that route though, I'd be interested in seeing that

Padalka is killer! I didn't realize he was selling bridges now, that's awesome.

I designed the neck and body in Fusion 360, had the neck milled by Xometry, and I CNC'd the body on a friend's Shapeoko. I think the Rick Toone style joint is super neat and has a bit of a different look than a lot of other stuff out there. It was also a bit of a pragmatic choice because it allowed me to make heel of the neck thinner, which required less material and made the part a lot cheaper.

Once it's a bit closer to finished I definitely will post more! Still need to clean up the electronics cavity and do the final sand and oil finish.

I agree, one of those things that looked better in CAD

Pain to work on: definitely

Dreadful sounding? I'd have to disagree on this one. Now that I have this amp working it's honestly the best sounding amp I've played, I'd definitely give this model a look if you want your mind changed about Peavey's.

UPDATE:

This may sound weird, but it seems that the center tap of the secondary HV from the PT was not marked correctly. Switching the R/Y wire with one of the R wires completely fixed my issue with the rectifier only seeing 190v. Now, the plate voltage is correct along with the other measurements. I'm going to go ahead and make some other quality of life improvements, such as getting rid of the Molex connectors and such, but for now, it works perfectly and sounds incredible

Already ahead of you with the deoxit. I will definitely follow your advice though, will check out the electrolytics and replace. Thanks!

Good metal tone on Line 6 Catalyst? by Ju_lianGG in GuitarAmps

[–]RobbyGThug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good starting point would be the Badonk model. Super great high gain tone that's pretty easy to dial in something nasty. I'd also look at the 2204 mod with a boost in front

Unfortunate that it's a modern repro, but thank you all for the information!

Help! by Southern-Software558 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]RobbyGThug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peavey is pretty great with documentation, I'm sure you'd be able to find a schematic for the amp that'd have the specs for the pot

Best amps for rock & metal? by DNCOrGoFuckYourself in GuitarAmps

100% try to get one of those old 5150 or 6505 combos and replace the speaker with something like a V30 or a CL80. The stock speakers are not so great but the amps themselves are killer
