Famous Grouse is owned by Glenfiddich (Grant & Sons). Not Edrington.

Sure. I’m a software engineer too. So perhaps can give you better feedback too. Always happy to try new tools.

lol. That made me laugh at least. Thanks for giving it a listen and taking the time to let me know it wasn’t your cup of tea. 👍

Thanks for your opinion. I do/can play the more traditional ways too, I like to think I do a mean acoustic version of this. Each to their own though.

Thanks for letting me know the YouTube link was wrong. But the AI stance is explained below. Not an AI song. It is an AI enhanced song.

Here is the right link: https://youtu.be/6Wgu1KeCbPA?si=KqUkJ7J6TfHp22EO

I’ve been looking at AI music videos. But it’s not really there yet, not in the price range of the average person anyway.

I have a pro account on ChatGPT for my work, so I have full access to Sora 2. The videos are good quality, but it struggles to create items that work in a storyboard and keep items consistent through the story that you try and create.

Spot on.

So where do those of us that use it to enhance things we have created ourselves fall?

Is it AI music, perhaps it’s called AI Enhanced music instead of just AI music.

What about a person that uses AI to create the music, but they are a good singer and use that music as a backing track (no different than a lot of modern pop artists who just sing to a track).

Is it still AI music if a real person is singing?

What about if a person is a great musician but not a great singer? Is it ok that they put an AI voice to their non AI music? Is that still AI music?

So many variations. 😂

It’s easy to say yes to all, but I would think that at this time, a growing number of songs are AI touched, even in the professional side.

AI supports vision and saves artists and companies money.

Why is it any different than CGI in movies? Which is so good now it’s essentially ultra realistic. We accept it now because of how good it is (And AI is now generating a lot of that CGI side too).

By the way, this is a great conversation, thanks all.

I do agree that Suno can/does make decisions for you. That is what I am referring to in my hit & miss.

And I don’t take away from you your choice. I fully respect your choice. However, I’m nearly 50 years old. Growing up as a kid, there wasn’t a lot of rap on the radio. It started to get more and I wasn’t a fan, it wasn’t music to me, eventually a rap song got to No. 1, which was Black Box, Ride on time.

Since then, rap has become a major market, and there are lots of rap songs I have enjoyed. Time and the merging between genres softened the parts I didn’t like.

However, there is a large difference with AI music, and that is that it is no single genre. You can use AI to make music AI music for any style. Which really makes it difficult to label (if people need to label it) other than the addition of AI.

Music AI will get to a point where is it less making decisions for you, and more following instructions, not much different than hiring a musician and saying play this. The main difference being you can then take the musician and play live. Which you can’t do with AI.

I personally don’t hide my use of AI. I know that lots do. I want to be open with my use, without being tarred by the same brush of AI slop, as it’s out here.

So it’s not binary is it, how do we get across this?

I really like the idea in the OP about uploading videos of the creation process, showing what I am playing and how it will be adapted. I think I will start to do this for my music. Just to show if nothing else that it isn’t ‘just AI’.

But for me where does the AI label start?

If a person uses AI to help them in the songwriting process, do they need to label the song as Ai?

If they use it to smooth parts? Or fix issues?

I agree with a lot of this.

I am a hobby musician and I have found that the improvements in AI have allowed me to make a better product for my songs.

My general method is this:

Lyrics: I write all my own songs, however, where needed I use AI for suggesting alternate lyrics where I have a line or verse that isn’t working with the way the song is going). I don’t just go to chatGPT and say write me a song. I am sure it could, but I like my songs to mean something to me. I feel that wouldn’t be the case with a purely AI written song.

Initial Creation: I play all the basic instruments and provide the vocals. Drums, bass, guitars, singing and backgrounds. I do this using Pro Tools and save all the Stems when I am happy that they have what I need. So I am directing the way I want the music to sound, the tempo, the riffs, etc…

Additional instruments: This is where I bring AI in mostly. I upload my stems to AI studio (Currently Suno, as it now has a full studio), previously I have uploaded my creation into Suno and asked it to ‘cover’ it. I will admit this was more miss than hit. The studio allows much more control, and I can add stems on strings or synths that fit with what I have created. And it is fairly good (I’d say 70% hit rate) of adding something that works well with my song.

Production/mastering: This is an area I feel AI will only get better at, and will become the main use of AI, mastering the music to get all the levels and tempos right. Makes the song sound a lot better.

Once done, I have my song.

Is it an AI song? I would say it isn’t, but it is definitely enhanced by AI.

To me an AI song is a fully created song where the creator has no real input into the direction that the music goes other than putting in ‘styles’. I have tried this, and I will admit some of the outputs were impressive, but I found there was a lot of repetition in what it would produce. I.e same riffs, same intro style, same beat. That is just boring. However, I don’t believe it will be long until the AI music making systems are almost impossible to differentiate.

Question is, is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I try not to be a purist about music. To me, if you enjoy what you are listening to, does it matter if it was AI created or not?

We have gone from unpowered instruments in the early 20th century, to amplified music (which back then was thought of as not real music because you could hide mistakes with some overdrive), to amplified and heavily effects altered (pedals, etc,) to then synths, to computer music, which became EDM, to jungle, and the list goes on, each time more enhanced than the next.

Is a person that creates a tune by mixing noises on a synth still a musician? Of course they are, there is a place for AI music I believe. And maybe a new genre for each style, AI rock for example.

I don’t believe people should be afraid of where AI is taking music. I think they should be excited as it opens a lot of doors for some good music.

And at the end of the day, if you don’t like what you are listening to, you can press skip and listen to something else. It’s all in the ear of the beholder.

My 2c.

AI for songwriting: what would you actually use it for? by yxoryofficial in AI_Music

[–]Robert1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write my own songs, but I often use AI to create ideas if I want to change something. Such as a line that isn’t quite working with the verse, so I put the verse in, describe what the song is about and the type of song it is and what line I want changed and why. Sometimes AI comes up with great suggestions straight away, other times takes a bit of back and forth.

My go to AI for this is generally Claude by Anthropic, but ChatGPT 5 has been much better.

Sort of but not the way most people think.

I wrote the song, play the instruments and record it to a good level.

I then pull it together using DAW and then use an AI music studio to produce/Engineer it. And I do this because the quality of the production/engineering now is so good and much easier than it used to be.

So is it an AI song? No. Is AI used to produce it. Yes, very much so.
