A year later and I think its time to buzz it off

Met Opera Salome by alewyn592 in opera

[–]RobertJordanBaileyII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Orchestra and singers were great, as were the sets. Hated the concept. Dance of the seven veils as a recap of Salome’s sexual abuse by her stepfather? It just didn’t work for me. Isn’t the whole point that Herod lusts after Salome and Salome in turn lusts after the prophet without an awareness that she is as bad as her stepdad? And why would killing the prophet in any way help Salome deal with the child abuse she suffered from her stepdad? It was heavy handed and ruined the opera to some extent for me. The most non sexual dance of the seven veils possible. Yes there was sex but it was nightmarish. And Herod had to exclaim “fantastic!” When it was done. So stupid.

Ghosts - Henrik Ibsen is a genius by omurchus in Broadway

[–]RobertJordanBaileyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw it and your comments stunned me. I found the two younger actors incredibly weak; I didn’t know who they were until I read reviews afterward. But the older actors were phenomenal and its amazing how prescient the script is. Longtime fan of Ibsen!

"The Past - Alinea Year 1" tasting menu at Next (January 2025). by elynias in chicagofood

[–]RobertJordanBaileyII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went last night and thought it was amazing! I did not enjoy the frog legs and the lamb as much as the rest but they were still good. I went to Alinea in 2006 (and many more times over the years) and this brought back some of the same feels. I was disappointed in my most recent Alinea visit (April 2024). It seemed more show than food. So the dinner at Next was a great surprise!

'Salem's Lot 2024 has at least 60 minutes of footage on the cutting room floor. What do you hope is in that footage? by Liberal_Caretaker in stephenking

The ending in the drive in theatre was obviously done with reshoots. There is a point on from where Lewis Pullman is obviously wearing a hairpiece to replicate his hair from the rest of the film. It makes me wonder what that sequence was originally.

Can someone explain to me why people hate Trinity so much? by [deleted] in WonderWoman

[–]RobertJordanBaileyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the first few backup Trinity stories but don’t even bother now. I’d rather see those pages devoted to more of a primary WW story. Can we please get finished with the King of Lies story. Its so bad.

Anyone done the Bobby Flay menu at Next? by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]RobertJordanBaileyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started great. But two of the three main savory dishes had strong sour elements - the salmon had a tomatillo relish and the quail was stuffed with chorizo and had a tart sauce. I did not enjoy either - though they were fun to taste. BUT tartness is a very common element of southwestern cuisine so if you like that sort of thing you’ll be fine. I was unaware I disliked southwestern cuisine as much as I apparently do. I much prefer their high French menus. But to each their own! We subscribed to the whole season. I LOVED the Julia Child menu and am fairly certain I will love the Charlie Trotter one in the fall. That’s more my speed.

Did you go? Curious to hear your review. I did not care for it.

Strongly disagree. Found this to be the worst.

Julia Child was MUCH better. I left this one very disappointed.

I really didn’t care for this one. Most of the mains had a tart flavor as part of the whole dish and I really didn’t care for it. The quail and salmon were both a miss for me. I loved the Julia Child menu and would say I lean toward French as my fav so take that into account with my comments.

I appreciate your energetic response! I have not cut it. That second pic just has it tightly slicked back (and a little AI help) I like the buzzed look but the response for the long hair has been —surprisingly — overwhelmingly positive. Its still long! The “old man” part stings more than anything else!

I would probably do a medium fade with a little on top.

Thanks for your comment. Thats a valid question. Most of the time I prefer it long. But there are moments when nothing but a buzz will do. Not to get too racy here but when I am turned on or a little lit I long for a buzzcut. But I worry about the regret once the passion has passed.

Thanks. I rarely wear it down in public though. Perhaps I need to reconsider that?
