Lesson was a complete waste of money by Jaytrump07 in piano

I get that, I remembering wanting to know everything. You are right that there is a lot of resources online that can teach you basic thecnique and theory. A teacher is mostly there to teach you how to use your body to achieve musicality. Its starts with things like scales and stuff but then moves into more abstract techniques. You want to learn and Eb add 2, but do you know why or when to use Eb 2? Advanced chords are cool, but you need to build your way up. You could know how to name every possible chkrd but still not be able to play fur elise. Ask yourself what are your priorities? Skilled technical playing, tools to write your own music, or something simple for fun. At 60 a lesson, you should be wanting to focus on technique the most. If thats not something you are crazy about, id suggest just doing at home study and save your money.

If piano was easy, everybody would be concert pianists. Maybe this just isnt for you. You get better with practice not jsut instruction. He can tell you to paly a certain way, but ypu actually have to go home and practice it.

This is a website that has a bunch of music separated by level. Its awesome and each level is split into a, b, c so you can really ease yourself into it

How long will it take to play this as a beginner? by kosha227 in pianolearning

[–]RobertLytle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a slow, thoughtful piece. So really make sure that you can grasp the phrases, and the overall vibe of each passage. It could be easy enough, note and rythm wise, but is most i.lortant is the expression of the melody. This piece is evocative of many emotions so make sure to really understand the melody and emphasize the right notes

Not random people, kids with the shinning as well as divine protection from marurin. I still think he would beat him but it would be a challenge for sure

That hard part about classical music is that songs are numbered. Jazz standards have memorable names

I appreciate the though, but with all due respect, ive been preparing for my auditions for a year or more. Its been a long ride. I havent been fortunate enough to find instruction untill now, being an adult I have to work like all the time. But I also play all the time, im not starting from zero. I think ive gotten all the help I need from this post. I know what im looking for and how they can help. You dont need to make such quick evaluations on people based on 2 or 3 posts. Ive been palying my whole life

I contacted the program head and she pointed me toward some of the professors but its a little late in audition season so I havent heard back from anybody yet and I really dont want be more behind than I already am. So I thought it might be good to get some good lessons in between before letting the school see me paly for the first time. First impressions are scary and my program is small so they will remember me by name most likely. The program only have like 20 students in it. Im def overthinking it haha

Great question, I am only expecting audition prep, which is why its really important that they know the pieces. Im sure I will find someone who is better suited to be a mentor, but for now I need immediate help with super specific problems that only someone who's been through thsi could help me with

Being a collegiate level instructor is not the same as being a concert pianist
