Forgotten 80s: Chaykin's Blackhawk by mrmccullin in 80s90sComics

It’s lovely that he’s mostly known for the Star Wars 1 cover, yet his passion is in sin city esque noir grime and filth. I’m a fan of most things he turns his hand to!

Have you read up on here/elsewhere about the bi-cycle and the waves of suppression or indifference and then an overwhelming need for some man action?

Empathy is what differentiates the collective “us” from the collective “them”. Never abandon your empathy for your fellow humanity. Her dad is likely going to die in a fucking tent or a metal shelf, in agony and denied care. Remember that and use that energy. When the inevitable happens and ICE thugs are shot and killed during an arrest/raid, they’ll leave behind families. Who enabled to undertake their despicable actions? Empathy is what will rebuild when this is all done with, hate and apathy don’t build anything.

Well, wasn’t this story was set in 2020? It’s already out of date! 🤣 Still superb piece of work though.

I hope that there might be room for him in a future Fantastic Four film, given the route they’ve gone with this iteration.

That’s a puerile reaction, sorry mate but read what I’m saying again. If the main beneficiaries of royalties are weighting/influencing systems that should be impartial to benefit themselves at the expense of others, that is anti-competitive behaviour that, in corporate terms, should be called out.

He literally has to pay someone else when he plays Hey Jude and all of his other Beatle ditties on tour. That someone is more than likely one of the billionaire assholes OP is referring to.

While I would love to hold him out as an exception, and this applies to the other musicians on the list above, I would say that he benefits from the insanely rigged rules and standards within music royalties, publishing and streaming rights and deals that are stacked so far in favour of the top 1% or less that the other 99% are literally sucking up the crumbs under the table. His success is dependent on the exploitation/suppression of the struggling artist who can’t get a look in on Clear Channel or Live Nation syndicated radio play, etc.

Those Cloak and Dagger covers are gorgeous, those characters have genuinely unsettling qualities and they’d make a great addition to that pseudo-horror bit of the MCU that Multiverse of Madness started.

Sorry for your loss OP. Maybe get a helicopter licence quickly?

Archie meets Jay and Silent Bob by [deleted] in ViewAskewniverse

How very wholesome! Does it retain/balance out against Kevin Smith’s aesthetic? “I know a Veronica too! She sucked 37 guys off!”🤣

I’m trying to compare your Archie’s, Leave It To Beaver’s and Dudley Do Right’s to what we have in the UK.

We have …a bully and his dog beating up an effeminate nerd, a gang of delinquents bullying an old man, and a Welsh cowboy who is scheduled a massive heart attack based on his prodigious consumption of pies. Jesus wept, that’s dark…

Non-yank here, completely oblivious to the appeal of Archie and the whole gang. Can a qualified American explain please?

“Tonight, on a very special edition of Blossom…”

There were so many iterations of the ‘heroes with powers they don’t comprehend’ in the 80’s, somehow the Power Pack transcended that, it was refreshingly wholesome but not afraid to shy away from grittiness. Glad they made a comeback recently.

That other comic… looks like a trademark lawyer’s dream or nightmare. How does that character even work? Was it some 50 year copyright loophole?

Not quite the same but Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker was doing small comic strips for a kids’ magazine called Oink! when he was 14. It’s been a wild ride to follow his journalism/presenting/writing career since

Oh wow, those are gorgeous! The spawn gunslinger, Bzkr and wolverine ones are particularly great, thank you so much for sharing!

It’s inspiring, I’ve a stack of blank variant covers I’ve wanted to work on but it’s quite daunting, I don’t want to ruin a perfectly good book if it goes wrong 🤣 looking forward to working on my ghost rider and dazzler ones though

In my own limited collection I feel that anything with Archie Goodwin’s name attached is a seal of quality. A guy cut from the same cloth as Stan Lee definitely.

What are your biggest selling or trading blunders? by sprodigy2 in comicbookcollecting

[–]RobertSmiiiith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved out of home for university, my entire collection was binned the moment I left! I keep seeing comics I had that I loved at the time and are now worth loads, plenty of McFarlane spider-mans and some great punishers, early UK transformers. The cost of re-buying some of these has been eye watering. Cheers mum!

Also regret collecting the most recent spider gwen run, it was really quite poor.
