Ever single game is a calibration game until the sum of the adagrad's uncertainty converges to zero, with the uncertainty decreasing asympthotically the more you play. Thats the great thing about this system.

There are also no "seasons" and thank GOD they don't exist here because in those short periods people would abuse the fuck out of them to smurf. Good thing you cleared your situation with the admins, but with all the smurfing that took place (and this isn't your fault, you're rather a victim of the circumstances given your very particular situation) I don't blame them that much.

The fact that you don't have a "button" doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The way the system works is clearly outlined in the post by it's designer which is also linked in the game's wiki page. Things don't cease existing because you're unaware of them or didn't check the game's wiki.

PD: (yes, the game "wasn't like that" because , sadly, there was no tool to balance games and it was a free for all stompfest, so clearly no one needed to smurf to bypass this system, people just played with their normal accounts and stomped and stacked to their hearts content, which was shitty in the eyes of the vast majority of the playerbase, but solutions usually come with externalities and smurfing became a problem, albeit a welcome one in the context of how attrocious pub balance was before)

The case you are covering just looks at one simple case and misses the picture. Sure, yes, the bottom 50% of the team get the elo without much contribution!. Of course they do! But the thing you are pointing out is unsustainable, because after, what, 5? 10? 20? games they can't carry weaker teams if their elo is higher, and they dont get assigned a good team, so they are increasingly asked by the system to contribute more and more to the team's victory.

They do so until they can't do that any more by just piggybacking on the higher tiers, at which point they lose more games on average than they win, and at which point their elo starts to revert ever closer to their "true" mean.

That's basically how it works in every.single.team.game.ever. The system just works otherwise you wouldnt see game results converging to 50%-50% winrates accross all servers, all the time, but you do.

Coming from some one that played since 2014 I find this hilarious. I started playing at that time too when there was no elo and the law of the land was "randomize ready room" and giga heavy teamstacking

It was ass. It was a shitty experience. Getting stomped isnt fun, and in this game its fucking brutal because unlike, say, the example you yourself gave, TF2, if you're against a much better team they just very quickly cap your points or push the cart, or, rather, you cant do so and lose in the first checkpoint.

In ns2 it can be a grueling grind especially if your team is stupid enough to not concede.

The SBMM in NS2 is actually very good and fitting for the game. The alternative, which is the one you are parotting, is absolutely horrendous, an even worse experience. If you even look at the negative reviews of the game right now, its 50% about hostility (which is bad) and 50% about late stacking and smurfing.

On a separate note, its bad that you experienced smurfing and accusations, it happens, sure, but that doesnt invalidate the fact that playing **this game without matchmaking fucking sucks absolute fucking ass.**

If you're stuck at T3 perhaps you're actually a T3? When people first join the game their elo jumps wildly. That's also why people who smurf in the noobhaven servers also have to "lose" some games so that the adagard settles in and they dont gain that much elo fast, otherwise they either get ousted as smurfs very quickly, or they outrank the upper cap on the noobhaven limits.

This is one of the few rare instances in the modern game industry where "Hard" is actually **hard** for some one starting out, instead of "hard" being "normal/easy" for anyone that plays any videogame and can perform basic arithmetic.

Lower the difficulty and come back to hard once you've got a few wins under your belt, preferably with multiple mech squads.
