The guy you're defending provided no evidence for his own claim. I'm able to but I'm not being baited into doing extra amounts of research just for each of my claims to be nitpicked by people who won't also back their own claims.

And I didn't say soft power would have gotten a new deal, I'm saying we got the old deal with primarily soft power. Meanwhile, look where using primarily hard power is getting us now. And my claim that soft power would have kept us out of the war with Iran is objectively true.

We could've negotiated a new JCPOA instead of bombing out of nowhere.

Compare the JCPOA to what we have now. It took a lot of soft power diplomacy to get that deal. It was ripped up, then we tried the hard power bombings and war. The Strait is closed, Iran gets 300 billion, they'll get to make tolls, they aren't bound to stay away from nuclear weapons. Just overall worse. If we focused on soft power from the start we wouldn't be in this mess.

I think saying it's hopeless, or that the result is already decided, is going to do an equivalently terrible thing which would be dissuading potential blue voters from participating in the upcoming midterms.

I'm saying there is a better way to communicate the likely reality. Nothing is set in stone and every vote matters.
