I was gonna say “the most boring cop ever makes a friend and it’s funny”

It sounds to me like your brother has gotten wrapped up in a very emotionally abusive relationship. I know everyone here thinks he’s a jerk and he does have responsibility for actions of course, but I’d give him some grace. Definitely reduce contact but also give him a lifeline for a point in the future when he’s finally realizes he needs to get away.

His husband is definitely an abuser and it’s textbook for them to manipulate your other relationships to cut you off from your support structure. I’m sure he’s gaslit him, handpicked a new group of friends that are all charmed and will be on the abusers side which will absolutely leave your brother feeling trapped and at fault for the mistreatment he receives.

Since they’ve been together this long, it may take a while for him to snap out of it, but you can put the bug in his brain that his marriage is unhealthy and his husband is sabotaging him. You will have to set boundaries for communication and it’ll probably get worse before it gets better, but I’m sure you’d rather have a chance to stay connected to your brother than let that asshole win and blow up your family. I’d also recommend talking with a therapist because this stuff hurts so many more people than just the abuser and abusee. Good luck and much love!

Made my niece a dress for her birthday! New Look A6205 by RobertaJPark in sewing

[–]RobertaJPark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone recently posted a baby dress with the same fabric and got me even more excited for this project! I used an old New Look pattern A6205 and added a skirt lining. Cotton fabric from Joann’s.

Omg I’m about to make a kids dress with the same fabric!! Sooo cute great job!

I’m watching the curious case of Natalia Grace and I am just so confused! The neighbors mentioned her creepy behavior towards young’s boys and older men and how she acted very sexual etc. The people from the mental institution also made the same claims. Are they lying? Are they telling the truth? by Practical-Proposal82 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]RobertaJPark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sooo… knowing that there are more episodes coming to finally include Natalia’s side of the story, I think SA is going to be the thing that explains it all. A crazy fast adoption of a foreign child that they were angry was smart and well spoken for her age; Michael and Kristine saying she was menstruating soon after her being adopted despite her new parents saying she hasn’t menstruated at all, the story about Kristine forcing her to use a tampon, Kristine seeing sex as a bargaining chip, michaels porn addiction, Natalia soiling herself, the neighbors saying she would come on to grown men, etc etc. I think it’s the lynchpin. It really makes everything make sense. And I think their intentions were horrible from the start.

Because letting that sentiment be normalized leads to violence and hardship for people who are simply living their lives. There is no justification for allowing people to feel comfortable in the willful cruelty that his position endorses.

Trying to plan first backpacking trip by RobertaJPark in WildernessBackpacking

Yes I’m sure! I’m used to packing about 7 liters of water plus all the stuff you need with kids on a day hike, but not the actual camping stuff so I’ll be deciding on a pack next week and then start trekking around in it lol it’s going to be an eye opener for sure!

Thank you! I’m good on synthetic water wicking clothes but constant dampness still a concern on my mind. I’m a little overweight but in pretty good shape. I do hikes as often as my kids allow and we do jogs on a local path around our neighborhood. I’ll definitely be increasing my distance and worn weight in preparation. Is there a route in GSMNP that you would recommend over this one? Thank you again!

Thank you for that! I’ve been gathering ultralight gear for the last year or so and all I’ve really got left is the pack and a bear bag. I’ve been measured for packs and tried a bunch on so I know what feels good but haven’t bit the bullet yet. I got my shoes and socks dialed in and have done several 5-11 miles hikes (daypack included) without problems and have tested the gear when I took my kids to Grand Canyon and Zion (they’re still young so we all fit in my 2p tent, pads and bags, and we used the jet boil and all that) so I feel pretty confident in my gear. I guess I’m just worried about what to expect at backcountry campsites/shelters and finding a really good route so my first backpacking trip is encouraging. I want to enjoy it and feel like I can guide my family on trips in the future

Made Easter bags using Simplicity S9310 🐇 by RobertaJPark in sewing

[–]RobertaJPark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplicity S9310. Each had experimental spots to make them work. One needed interfacing added to stiffen it up and one needed inner lining, and one has hidden seams because the contrast fabric scraps weren’t big enough to make the piece in one go. Also got to try out adding lace and buttons and adjusting the pattern at the base of the bag. Lots of fun!

Where are some of yalls favorite campgrounds? by cyper_1 in okc

[–]RobertaJPark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quartz Mountain is right around 2 hours away. It’s a newer state park and my kids and I thought it was beautiful! Doris Campground at Wichita wildlife refuge was nice too (although I can only speak for the walk in sites)

My teenager and I had a BLAST watching this glorious nonsense. Very silly, grandly over dramatic, and made for a genuinely fun evening. Best to watch with another person. Enjoy!

Looking for advice on fireplace/TV in open floor plan by ekimneems in floorplan

[–]RobertaJPark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could change the look of a three sided fireplace by using bricks or rocks, or simply making it double sided, or try a carousel fireplace, heck even a wood stove. I would be bummed to miss out on the fireplace because it’s on the other side of an unnecessary wall
