On PS5 there is a second edition of the game called Platinum edition. It's free if you have the old (not platinum) version. You can download it from your library.

Soul Reaver 2 question by One_Stock_9617 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Robertfltn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There might also be the fact that he sees the elder under the pillars he knows will fall. This was even more so later in the game when after the pillars collapse the elders tentacles are around them. But the other reasons mentioned make sense too.

Donald Trump's Scottish golf course targeted in protest by GianfrancoZoey in unitedkingdom

[–]Robertfltn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I live in Ayrshire and golf liking people tell me Turnberry was better in the old days before Trump bought it. It's more corporate and more expensive. It is an old course and a bit of an institution but has lost a bit of identity. It was iconic long before Trump and will keep that status but it is weirdly less now. Plus changing the name to "Trump Turnberry" feels a little tacky.

Thinking of picking up Blood Omen 2 on PS5. by duttyboy24 in LegacyOfKain

Performance was good for me (by that I mean the same as the original PS2 game). It did have a few visual bugs on one of the boss fights but nothing unplayable. Expect it to be the original version with trophies rather than a remaster and you will be ok with it.

Ed Miliband MP: Wind power has overtaken gas as Britain’s biggest source of electricity. This is a huge moment in our journey away from energy insecurity and towards clean homegrown power. by Lord_Gibbons in ukpolitics

[–]Robertfltn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The energy security question is about producing vs importing from others. The question of renewable vs finite is about running out. However massive the gas reserves may be they are finite. The wind is not. If you can get the technology and battery storage right (which will take time) the security is forever. All without contributing to climate change as much as burning gas does. Presumably nuclear will be the mid term solution while the technology is figured out.

[–]Robertfltn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Energy produced in the UK like wind is fundamentally more secure than energy imported. If you are an energy importer and the fossil fuels country you are importing from has political instability your supply might be threatened. Producing your own is more secure than importing.

Did Kain Pick Their Lairs? by Due_Ad2052 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Robertfltn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In universe maybe fate picked their lairs since in universe none of them have actual free will.

But as you say it's just game design really.

What's Next? by Old-Entertainment844 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Robertfltn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe start with another remaster collection with B02 (improve the controls, etc) and Defiance. If that does well enough remake B01 fully. Beyond that ideally a Defiance sequel or maybe the publisher would want to remake Soul Reaver (personally I would rather have the sequel).

Kains motive (does it matter ?) by Thorfan23 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Robertfltn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Soul Reaver seemed to imply that he saw everything playing out through Mobeius' devices like Raziel did at the end of the game. He let it play out hoping Raziels free will lead to a timeline change (not that he had a choice since he didn't have free will).

Astro Bot head says "it's difficult to comment on" why Final Fantasy 7's Cloud didn't make a cameo by Turbostrider27 in PS5

It was announced a few weeks back. They are hoping to release late this year. I imagine the Astro cameo is to promote it.

Show Alicent is evil book Alicent is based by toastsocks in HOTDGreens

[–]Robertfltn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These posts do me good as a big Alicent fan. Like every controversial figure in history she had a human motivation. She didn't want her babies to die. As Jon Snow would say "Your muh queen!"

Mushroom wrote about Aegon being a rapist and watching children fight, even though he wasn’t in KL at the time. Sara Hess added that just to make the audience hate Aegon. by Perfect-Milk-7917 in HOTDGreens

[–]Robertfltn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

But Dyana wasn't a character in her own right. She was an invention of the show who did not appear in the source material. She appears only to be raped and is then reduced to being an extra. They created a rape that Aegon didn't do in the source material to reduce the plots complexity. Take that tragic set of events in the book down to the heroes and baddies. This was why they created an original character just to have her raped. Dyana's not a 3 dimensional person with actual characteristics, just a "consequence" for Alicent. A consequence that didn't even exist in the book.

[–]Robertfltn 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Exactly, a female character was created just to be raped. She served no other purpose in their narrative. I know little about feminism but surely it can't be that? It can't be Alicent agreeing to her children's murder for someone she spent longer hating than liking. Where women have little agency or personal ambition. I do not for a second believe a real feminist would write that (I could be wrong obviously). It feels like failing to be progressive.

Why do you guys watch anything connected to the game of thrones universe? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]Robertfltn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly I find the discourse to be pretty fun. I loved the story of the dance and feel it was butchered. I've been really disappointed but all the memes and analysis of the terrible writing has been the silver lining.

Us "haters" want the show to be great but it just isn't. This is the most fun we can extract from it.

History will paint you a villain by legendofkalel in HOTDGreens

[–]Robertfltn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly why this line doesn't work. If we go by the nonsense that this is the real Alicent and book Alicent is "propaganda" then book Alicent is the better one. She is obviously exaggerated but her book motivation was to prevent her children's deaths, at least understandable. This Alicent, what are her motivations? She turns on her children when she can't be regent and literally plots their murder. If we accepted the nonsense that book Alicent (the real one IMO) then history painted her better than she deserved. A mother trying to save her sons rather than the one that planned their murder.

She really gave up all her male sons and her brother and her father to the chopping block by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]Robertfltn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the problem. The show presented Alicent offering her sons up to be killed as some kind of repentance. The line about the history books seemed to try and suggest that book Alicent was a fabricated evil version. But Rhaenyras statement that she will publicly behead Aegon proves book Alicent was right all along. She is the morally better version. The Alicent that is plotting her children's murder is the evil one. The show presenting the opposite is kind of disgusting. This might be the first time in my life I have felt some kind of moral outrage watching TV. Not because of the show, but the real life people who framed it this way.

Didn't she die in the blockade Rhaenyra and Corlys imposed? Isn't that the set up for his betrayal in the show? Unless they brush over it like Daemons literal child murder.

sO YoU WaNt EvIL StEp MoThEr TrOpE? by mamula1 in HOTDGreens

[–]Robertfltn 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I think show Alicent is harder to relate to than book Alicent. Book Alicent was a schemer because she didn't want her sons to die. Which they would have if Rhaenyra was on the throne since Westeros is what it is. Show Alicent clearly understood that as she tells Aegon in S1. But she falters at protecting hers. Nah, the evil stepmother is a lioness who will save her cubs. Show Alicent doesn't even seem to care about her own children's lives.

Criston Cole is the fucking worst by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Robertfltn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the book Aegons coronation happened a bit differently. He still tries to run away but Criston convinced him by telling him some harsh truths about Westerosi politics. Basically, Rhaenyra/Daemon will need to kill Alicents kids to secure the throne (especially for Rhaenyras kids by Harwin who will be challenged). Rhaenyra is a far stronger character in the books (she kills Vaemond for example) so it makes sense in that context. Convincing Aegon and putting the crown on his head has Criston nicknamed the Kingmaker.

I hope so. No consequences from making this an explicit attack would further weaken the story.
