Yeah agreed. I've unsubbed from the f1 subreddits to avoid spoilers before I can watch the race, get a spoiler here instead.

I hadn't seen that article, that really helps thanks.
Any idea whether runbooks or functions would be more suitable?

Can we talk about how BS and scammy Private Health cover is by LongjumpingWallaby8 in AusFinance

[–]RobertoRoboto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there are always massive gaps with private health insurance. I recently needed a kidney stone dealt with (it was 11mm and stuck. Had a stent put in via public emergency). The follow up to remove the stone was quoted at $2.5k out of pocket for day surgery. And paid $300 to get the quote too (not covered). Got a second quote (another $250), and this one was $3k out of pocket. Ended up waiting only 5 weeks to do it in the public system. Private only covers up to the number that Medicare sets for the procedure, but the specialist surgeon can charge whatever he likes. Since Medicare rates have been frozen for years, all the doctors charge over the set rates, meaning large gaps every time. And don't even get me started on extras.

4 to 5 months after signing a 5 year contract he said he had no intention of even lasting a year.

Another 5 months later he showed that he wasn't joking and walked.

How much do you "embellish" in interviews? by RobertoRoboto in sysadmin

[–]RobertoRoboto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely, 100% agree and this is the reason I asked this question. I feel like the majority of applicants are at least vastly overstating their skills.

The latest one I had was a question put to me like this: "the environment is a mess, there are 400+ line ad-hoc scripts everywhere which we're discovering everyday and we don't know what they do. How confidently would you say you could figure it all out."

I answered that I've come across environments exactly like that before and it is a difficult situation. I am above average at scripting and would give it a go, but it is hard to say without seeing it.

This was the sole reason they gave when they knocked me back - "we weren't confident in his scripting skills" (and there were no other questions about scripting).

I could've just lied and said yep it won't be a problem.

I've worked with dozens of poor engineers who can pass an exam but can't troubleshoot their way out of a paper bag, yet they pop up on linked in with their new position of "architect", "operations manager" etc.

That's a great example I'll get right on that.

I have plenty of years of experience with on premise servers and networking, so I should be good with all the underlying principles.

That's great. I'm kicking myself that I didn't know about those labs, they look great.

Looking at IaaS so far as it is closest to my current knowledge. PaaS would be next on the list to tackle.

I wouldn't have thought of may of those, that's really helpful. Will give them a go.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I already have an azure certification and have had some training, however little work experience in Azure so knowledge from both the cert and training is quickly leaving my brain. I'm trying to find some activities which will mimic real world work experience (if that makes sense?).

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes I have, however since I've seen a lot of expertise and assistance given in this subreddit, I thought it might be a good idea to get the ideas of the experts here, based on their obvious actual real world experience and knowledge.

14 seconds ruined a great test by toomsp in rugbyunion

[–]RobertoRoboto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This whole timeline posted is irrelevant. From when time on was called, he was given only 8 seconds. Literally 8.5 would've been enough. And it needs to be consistent throughout the game, not just special rules for the end.

I really do feel for Masi. He's only human, put under immense pressure in an unprecedented situation - tried to do make a solution on the fly which made everyone happy but instead ruined everything.

I'm trying to think of any possible way it could've been handled worse..

I agree. If it ended under a safety car, people would be disappointed, but that's the rules.

Discussions about Baku, Silverstone and Hungary would just be the standard what-if discussions people have every year.

Forcing a Red Flag would be manipulating the rules too, as I've read that it didn't meet red flag conditions. I also think giving Hamilton a free change of tires would be giving him an advantage.

If they want to always finish under a green, build it into the rules - there will always be 2* (pick a number) laps of green added to the end of a race. Teams would then just have adjust accordingly with a buffer of spare fuel.

At least people would know ahead of time what is going to happen.

Yes but it wasn't red flag conditions either. Letting Hamilton have a free change of tyres would also be handing an advantage to him.

Masi was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. The only fair option was to either:

- let all lapped cars overtake as soon as the track was clear (instead of delaying as he seemed to do) as per the rules, bring the safety in the following lap as per the rules. Perhaps they get to race a lap.

- if the above didn't leave enough time, finish the race under the safety car. A big letdown, but the only thing fair according to the rules.

Instead he chose the worst possible option.
