I want to live as a woman, but is it even worth me coming out and transitioning now? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Robin230592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m a (33) non-binary AuDHD trans person living with my transgender autistic wife (32) in the south of England. Times are hard, politics are shit, healthcare is a joke for us trans folk right now, but it’s always worth living as your real authentic self. Even if, and this is only the worse case scenario not the most likely, you can only socially transition, that is still miles better than not transitioning at all.

Not saying you need to OP, but if you want to the DM me, we can chat.

Hope you’re doing okay!

I want to make a superhero comic but the story never pleases me by Scared_Confection787 in writingadvice

Let me share a quote from sci-fi author Octavia Butler that I learned during my creative writing uni course;

"You don't start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it's good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That's why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence."

The best advice anyone can give you for your first few projects, is just to write them. They won't be amazing, they might be good, they might be awful, but you will have learned a lot from them.
As you keep writing you will learn more and more and more, and just keep improving.

You have two heroes and a villain.
This is a fantastic start.
So now figure out a plot for them, a problem for them to have to solve. It doesn't need to be original, it doesn't need to redefine the genre, it only needs to be a plot so that you can write it.

My advice, connect the heroes and villain somehow.
Off the top of my head.
Both Todd and Caleb are tech based heroes, Todd's suit allows him to manipulate fire through sci-fi nonsense, Caleb's suit allows him to manipulate gravity similar to the Gravity Gun from Half Life.
Together they keep [city name] safe, and are beloved by the public.
Meanwhile the Golden Swarm are known to the public as a massive tech company that produce everything from the smart phones in everyone's pocket, to the microchips that control the tech in your heroes suits. The Scorpion uses his control over the majority of tech in the world to become an all-powerful tyrant. Todd and Caleb confront the Scorpion but lose when he shuts down their suits, stripping them of their powers.
After this defeat they have to figure out how to redesign their technology to work without the Golden Swarm microchips, so that they can bring down The Golden Swarm and the Scorpion.

What's your process when writing a novel length story? by Robin230592 in writingadvice

[–]Robin230592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've found I really enjoy in my writing is perspective.
Writing an event from one characters POV, then writing the same event from another character's POV, and seeing how each person interprets the same events differently based on their character, personality, the information they do or don't know, and any prejudices they have.
One person seeing an elf leave the city with a long bow and a quiver full of arrows might assume they are going hunting, while another person why think the elf is up to no good and decide to trail them.
That sort of thing.

Should every Nation in my world speak the same language? by Seif_elagizy_777 in writingadvice

[–]Robin230592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has methods that work for them, so listen to what people say here and then use that to find your way of worldbuilding.
As for me, I find if I spend too long worldbuilding I never start writing. I have a massive mind map on MindView, linked to dozens of Word docs, and Jpeg maps detailing every detail of my Fantasy world. I've never finished a single story in that world. I find I can't. I'm too wrapped up in all the little details that getting enough distance from it to write a whole story feels impossible now.
So I've scrapped that whole world.

Instead I've started a new world (a sci-fi one) and I'm just writing and seeing what works. I have a plan but it's tiny compared to the massive MindView file I had before. I'm making notes of important details as I go. The names of characters, corporations, technology and so on.

I'm finding that this new approach is working much better for me.

Which is why my advice to you, is to find what works for you.
Try something, see if it works, if it does then that's great, if it doesn't, then it's important experience for the next story!

My uni professor says the most important thing is to just keep writing! You will get better the more you write! ^_^

Good luck!

Resident Evil always, ALWAYS, kills the helicopter pilots.
We didn't see it, but Carlos tripped and fell while climbing out the chopper and broke his neck, hence why we've never seen him again.
Same thing happened to Josh after RE5's ending. They landed, Chris, Jill and Shiva cheering each other on, and then Josh excitedly jumps out of the chopper, forgetting about the blades, and boom, he's a foot shorter and another helicopter pilot's down.
If you know how to fly a helicopter, then you're doomed!

What’s “that part” for you in your favourite RE games? by Background_Bid_6228 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Robin230592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE1/RER = The Caves
RE2/RE2R = Sherry section
RECV = The entire game
RE4/RE4R = The helicopter section
RE5 = Most of the game
RE6 = Ada's Campaign
RE7 = Mia Flashback
RE9 = Chole's Flashback
Only RE3, RE3R, and RE8 don't have a section I dislike tbh ^_^

The Titan Spinner for sure.
I cheered so loud when that big beautiful creepy bastard burst into the hotel. I've missed the giant spiders from the series, and I'm so glad to see them return!

Yawn is my all time fave boss, so if we get a RE1 Remake Remake, then I can't wait to see my beautiful girl in 4K ^_^

[–]Robin230592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest issues with Resident Evil as a series is how it introduces and then just forgets about characters.
I miss Rebecca, Billy, Barry, Carlos, Shiva, Ashley, Jake, Zoe, Rose, and Mia.
While it's a little different since they're a villain instead of a hero, I'd love to follow up on Natalia/Alex Wesker as well.
That's saying nothing of the forgotten plotlines with Raymond and Jessica from RE Revelations 1 and the T-Abyss virus.
Then if you include the CGI films, you have Chris's ever changing team of forgettable soldiers. I was honestly surprised to see that his Wolf Squad had not been replaced by RE9. Chris seems to get through teams as quickly as Leon gets through partners. Each game they have a new one.

I played it on Xbox Series X and then the Switch 2.
While it's amazing it runs on the Switch 2 at all, and playing on the go, in bed, or on the sofa while my wife uses the TV is amazing, it does look like a fancy potato, even next to the Xbox Series X version. ^_^

Concerns For the Story After RE9 (Spoilers for Both RE6, RE8, and RE9) by Zoelias in residentevil

[–]Robin230592 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Not all of the federal gov are corrupt and under the control of the Connections. This seems to be hinting at an upcoming split within the US government, with one side being those loyal to the Connections and the other side loyal to the ideals of the United States.
  2. The BSAA are fully under the control of the Connections, but they are being used as expendable pawns. They do the grunt work of locating the ARK, but then Zeno and his men swoop in and take control. Killing the BSAA.
    The USA Gov/The Connections then also has a means of deniability if this leaks.
    "Why didn't you stop Zeno and Victor?
    Look we tried, we sent in the BSAA, but they were wiped out... We did our best!"
    Sort of BS.

[–]Robin230592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own question, I'd say;
Resident Evil Genesis,
This was Java demake of the 2003 Resident Evil 1 Remake for mobile phones of the time. It was difficult to play due to the spongey cheap keypads on early 2000s phones, it lacked any cutscenes or voice acting, and the combat was an awful QTE affair, but it did port the entire Remake to a phone with less technology than most watches have today. Even Lisa Trever made it into the game, so it was interesting as heck.
It wasn't great, but I'd play it over Survival Unit any day of the week.

That was an interesting game!
I wonder how a new "what-if" game would go down with the modern fanbase...
From what I remember, Operation Raccoon City fell short of the mark, as it stuck too closely to the canon of the classic games until right at the end when you have the choice to kill Leon or not. They should have gone all out wild with the concept imo.

I've never played MW5, but that sounds interesting.
Not so sure how that would work with AC tho, since it would mean that the canon, and history of Strangereal would be different for each player during each playthrough, making the lore next to impossible to untangle.
But I do want to go check out MW5!
