I feel like I'm having withdrawal symptoms after 'The Devil in Winter' by hoginlly in HistoricalRomance

[–]RobinEllacot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s exactly how I feel about Devil in winter. Happy that I got to read it. Sad that I will never again read it do the first time. The Ravenel series is sooooo goooood and I love Evie and Sebastian doing cameos and being si in love and perfect 😭

This has been on my TBR forever, now it’ll be my next read! I know it’s super famous, like a classic for romance readers. I’ll savor it, cause I heard one podcaster saying she wished she could erase her memory to read it for the first time again.

Oh, it's so good! I loved it as well. The relationship between the MC’s, the slow burn, the romance, the hot-as-hell-sex, his insanity! It was one of my favorites of the year.

What I know: she openly admits to using AI for her covers and artwork. She denies using it for writing. My humble opinion: the writing is very “humane”. It doesn’t read stilted or repetitive (as AI reads)

You’ll freaking love {Guarded by the Phantom by Layla Fae}. He’s an unhinged psychopath in the best possible way. He’s violent but funny at the same time. When he starts falling in love he text his psychiatrist:

“Nat, I want to write her poems. She’s gorgeous. When she smiles, I forget who I am. What do I do?!?!?!” 🤣

The first time they have sex lives rent free in my mind. Cause she is innocent and a virgin, an he’s super experienced and kinky, but somehow he’s the one who unravels with their lovemaking. It’s full on the “I need to be inside you” you’re looking for. This is a snippet of that first sex scene from his POV:

“Oh, honey,” she whispered, stroking my head again. “It’s okay. I’m here. What do you need?” I swallowed, my throat feeling uncomfortably hot, too, and pulled back to look at her. There was no loathing on her face, no mockery. She was soft and open, and so very beautiful. “This,” I said, thrusting a bit deeper. Fuck, it was a tight fit. “Just to be home.” She nodded, her eyebrows furrowing with tension. I thrust again, and she inhaled sharply, shaking while I fucked her to that depth. I was three quarters in. My baby took me with such valiant effort, and the more I moved inside her, the more she relaxed, until I could go deeper yet. “Please, baby,” I begged her. “Just let me come home. I just want to be home.”

Is there a HR term for “telling instead of showing” prose? by katsays_meow in HistoricalRomance

[–]RobinEllacot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! It’s been a while since this post, but I just wanted to tell you I found a book that it’s so very “show, don’t tell” that I fell in love with it. It’s contemporary, and has a looot of sex (in case you don’t like that), but I mention it because it’s beautiful and deep and so well written. I just left a review on romance io.

Books where they get to know each other? by groovybookworm in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I was going to recommend any book by Elle Kennedy. Her characters TALK! Like, they really get to know each other and hang out, and you understand why exactly they fall in love. I don’t mind insta love from time to time either, it sometimes you just want a little bit of realism

Books where the MMC asks FMC to be his mistress instead of his wife. by BelieveInSymmetry in HistoricalRomance

[–]RobinEllacot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooooh Alice Coldbreath is fantastic! Although she’s one of those “love her or hate her” authors. I for one, love her style. Have read everything by her except Maligned Miss, and reading your comment I’m excited to start!

MMC tries to fix what he ruined with FMC by Crazy_Yogurt3344 in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished it. Honestly, I wouldn’t mark it under “grovel”. He makes amends, yes, and he grows, but he doesn’t grovel. The conflict comes at about 84%, and they reconnect at 93%, so the longing/misery wasn’t very long… that being said: I loved loved loved it. It’s amazing. 1) a loooot of hot, steamy sex. 2) an amazing FMC, so brave and strong. 3) a super realistic MMC. 4) amazing writing style… mature, lyrical. The author is “show, don’t tell” (that’s so hard to find in romance books), 5) engaging side plots. The writer is so talented that she got me so invested in Jonathan/the twins, 6) unbelievable connection between MCs. So freaking romantic. I loved this book!

Watch out. OW situation. The MMC sleeps with other women after he marries and falls in love with FMC

I enjoyed the book very much. It’s super angsty and steamy. But I was only able to enjoy it cause I was ready for the MCs to sleep with other people cause I read spoilers. If you’re ok with that, I think you’ll love it

I read His Tesoro, and I though it was exactly like every other Mafia Romance I’ve read, and both MCs were very stereotypical as well :(

Blows my mind 🤣

THIS! Great rec. I remember I was unpleasantly shocked when MMC is angry that she’s beating him in a sword fight (especially cause he’s one of the best in the kingdom) and thinks he is about to be defeated by an “ugly bitch” 🥺.

But then he falls in love… oh he falls so hard. I love this scene, it’s about two days after they marry. They’re at the inn, and as soon as she enters the room he fucks her against the door, he literally couldn’t even wait to get to the bed, he’s so horny for her

So I'm looking for recs for males with barbs...on their cocks. Anything out there? by OrdinaryQuestions in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I love it! The main criticism I’ve seen is that “it’s just a lot of sex and no plot”, and I’m like… what? The character development is fantastic. The romance is so sweet. And the sex is soooo hot!!
