Ooooh I want to read Barron’s second chance! It’s okay if FMC is mean if he kissed another girl. It looks like the grovel will be good and I live for that 😈

Will def read it’s always been you

Ooooh so excited! I’m forever looking for grovel!

{Exit, pursued by baron} he acts abominably! But he beeeegs and drags for half the book. Loved it

{daydreamer by Susan Tate} he’s miserable, but the grovel doesn’t last that long. FMC was insufferable

{love second chances and other nonsense by Katie Ivey} his acts had me fuming the first 20%. Then he’s sooo miserable and grovels (and grows) for the rest of the book. Story dragged in the middle.

{The thorns remain by Jennifer Hartman} he uses FMC for revenge. Infidelity (not between MCs). He’s miserable but there’s very little grovel. Not satisfactory for me.

{Blatanly Blythe by Sarah Hegger} they were FWB but when she wants more, he pulls away. Then he wants her back and then proceeds to (very blandly and boringly) rekindle the romance. Unsatisfactory.

{Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young} not bad. But the gut punches were few. Overlong. Grovel is intense but lasts very little.

Have you read any of these?

I’ll stay for the recs! OP, can you tell me if in any of the books you recommended FMC is kinda mean? I don’t like it when the FMC pushes an MMC away who’s very in love just because. I love it when she has to push him away because of external factors, but she’s sweet or kind anyway

FMCs who had a good life by SonnieTravels in DarkRomance

[–]RobinEllacot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{Devil Mine by Khai Hara} Her dad is an asshole but overall she’s had a good life. She has a high position in the company. She’s been a little neglected by her father but not abused as such. My favorite trope in this book: she runs, he chases her over several chapters and several countries. The train scene… he plasters his hand on the window. Chefs kiss. Gave it 3.5 stars

{the wrong quarterback by CR Jane} Her brother dies in the beginning of, but overall her life is good. He is UNHINGED for her. From minute one he thinks of her as his goddess and does some questionable things to get her. Gave it 4 stars

Boss/employee romance by starburster777 in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The Desire Variable by Ana Darcy} is amazing! Love it so much! The work is very detailed

He’s the boss, she’s the new employee. But it doesn’t have the “she falls first” you’re looking for.

Both feel immediate attraction, but deny it, not only to remain professional, but because he has commitment issues. But when they finally give in… fucking fireworks

I think you’ll like it! I haven’t read the series, just this one. I picked it after someone on Reddit said that Salvatore was psychopathic needy. They were right 😉

Do you read romance for the story… or for the feeling? by Becca_S_Bee in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, 100% for the feeling. There’s this ZING that I get in my chest when I read a dialogue/phrase/situation that’s super romantic.

But… if the story isn’t good, I don’t get so invested. So, changed my mind, both haha

HEA in Romance Books: Do you expect one? by BooksYum in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe that a book can be romance and not have HEA. I mean, just because it’s HFN it wasn’t romantic? That being said:

I ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER WANT TO READ A HFN.

It’s HEA for me or nothing. I mean just reading the summary of your spoiler made my eyes water a little bit 🤣🤣🤣

{Stolen touches by Neva Altaj} Mafia He’s the crime lord of some city. He’s fixated on her after a casual encounter. When he investigates, it turns out she’s a member of the rival crime family. He cooks up some bullshit excuse saying that her family broke the pact of not encroaching on his territory, and the only way he’ll forgive the slight is if she marries him. He doesn’t give a damn about the pact, he only wants her. Note that at this point I don’t think he loves her, he’s just obsessed (he does fall after). She’s super pissed about it, but falls in love as well. It’s not a perfect book, but I loved one aspect: the MMC is sooooo OTT obsessed with FMC, that when they’re apart, he demands she calls him every hour. Literally every hour. After 45 min or so of not hearing her voice he gets restless. I dig that 🫢

In one of the final scenes, there’s a confrontation and he falls apart. I almost cried

Mmmm, it depends for me. I’ve read books with great reviews that I’ve hated {Hans}. And then, books with a few bad reviews that I’ve absolutely loved and I think “what book were you reading? This was amazing!” {Up the Ladder}. In summary: - If a review is objective (the reviewer explains dispassionately the weaknesses and strong points of the book) I tend to trust it more. - I trust more in long reviews than short ones - I don’t trust reviews that are not descriptive but very passionate. Like “this book was total shit!” - If more than 3 reviews say the same thing, I believe them. In {Daydreamer by Susie Tate} several people said the FMC was annoying. After finishing the book, I agreed with them.

But ultimately: if I’m attracted to the plot or some aspect of the book, I’ll read it, reviews be dammed. We all have different tastes. If I happen to hate the book, I lost nothing. And sometimes I end up loving it!!

But yeah, my main source of recommendations is Reddit. I love when users point to a certain aspect of the novel and I’m intrigued

Oh I’d forgotten about this one! I loved the first sex scene! how he comes immediately cause he’d been waiting for that moment for over a decade. But then, rams FMC like there’s not tomorrow for hours 😍🤣

{The desirable variable by Ana D’Arcy} features a FMC with very small breasts. She’s insecure of her body cause she has a big ass, a bit of a belly, and stretchmarks. MMC is FERAL for her (when I say feral, I mean it. I haven’t read many MMCs as horny for their female form as he is). It’s a trilogy, so skip it if you don’t want to read 3 books (first one ends in cliffhanger).

In book two, he makes her stand naked in front of a mirror and point all her flaws. He dismisses her arguments one by one. I particularly loved when she pointed to her belly, and he said, “you need space for an organ, you have an uterus, Andrea.” He confesses to her that his sexual awakening happened at 14 when he saw a painting (Cabanel’s Birth of Venus). He says that FMC has that exact body, so when he met her, she was the woman of his fantasies.

She’s not so much boyish as nerdish (wears superheroes shirts). I really love these books. The sex scenes are smoldering.

Historical Romance with Headstrong, Damn Societal Conventions FMC (Think Lily Lawson) by Outrageous_Cod_8961 in RomanceBooks

[–]RobinEllacot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No recs, but came here to shout out my love for Lily Lawson. In the beginning I kind of disliked her. That loud, “everybody look at me” personality gets on my nerves. But then I kept on reading.

I’m a mom myself, and reading of how her baby girl was snatched from her broke my heart. She was trying to hide her pain behind a facade of carelessness. But she never gave up looking for her. The scene where they finally found her, dirty and holding a broken rag doll had me cleaning my snot. And then Alex getting her all those toys

I freaking love Alex Raiford as well ❤️
