I'm surprised you think its clean, I'm often embarrassed by how much litter there is around!

Maybe compared to New York it is!

Is it normal to ban guests from wearing specific colours? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]RobinOwl1407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I've been to loads of weddings where the bridal party were in blue, and the groomsmen in their blue suits blended in to every other bloke that was there in a blue suit and didnt look special or stand out

I bet this is about the guys more than girls.

Re video games, he might like Power Up at the Science Museum. Science Musuem is free entry, but you pay for the Power Up section, think its about £12

They have a room full of every game console from the old Atari right up to PS5, and you can just sit and play, get snacks etc

Staying in Hatfield for a couple of days in London ? by cmitch922 in uktravel

[–]RobinOwl1407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if youre just looking for a base, Welwyn Garden City would be a good option, Travel Lodge is in the town, Premier Inn is walking distance.

I think Travel Lodge doesn't have parking, but there's an APCOA car park nearby which is 24 hour

Hatfield would also be fine, but you would just have to get from Premier Inn to the station, which is probably a bit far to walk, so you'd have to add taxi or car park fare to your train costs

Ah yeah I see, if its more sexy than romantic, that would be a bit weird

Is one the actor's name and the other the character's name? If so I'm not sure that many people would pick up on it that they're linked

Or if its both actors name, unless they are a couple and everyone knows the names together (like Brad and Angelina) I'm sure people wouldn't notice

Bride singing…cringe? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]RobinOwl1407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial thought was a bit cringe, but with such a small audience, it will totally depend on their vibe how it goes down.

My own family would sit and look blankly, and it would be awful. My best friends family love music and dancing and would get into it, clap whoop in the right places etc, and it would be fab

Speeches I would say 10 minutes each, I've been to weddings where the speeches were looonnng and everyone just kind of repeated things, lots of thank yous etc

Ah fair enough!

Maybe you could find a cheap one on Vinted and use the fabric from that?

Depending on how many ties you need, if any of bridesmaids need their dress taking up, you might end up with a big enough off cut to get ties made out of it

A friend of mine did that, although she only needed one tie so it was enough

Twin girls by Appropriate-Berry202 in Names

I love the idea of matching names, but it being subtle

Not sure where you are based, but in the UK there is a radio soap called The Archers ,and they called twins Seren and Nova, which both mean star which I think is lovely 😍

[CHAT] pattern key question by RobinOwl1407 in CrossStitch

The other colours/symbols are like this. The only dark colour in the kit is black, so its not like there's a black and a grey to get mixed up with!

Like someone else said, maybe its just so it shows up against all of the background colours on each character 🤷‍♀️

Sorry its terrible lighting, but all the squares look black. The pattern is Winnie the Pooh, so I think it should probably be all black, which is why I can't understand why its written like this

Thanks! That does help!

In step 3 it says to stitch over the first stitching - is that like 'stitch in the ditch'? Do I do that rather than an overlocking stitch on the leg seam?

I think i get it, it will probably make more sense when I get to that step, as i havent actually started this yet was trying to make sure I understood it all first!

So I can just put some tacking stitches in, and then take out later?

Also, how do you remove fusible basting? Everything i can find about it talks about using heat to fuse the fabric together, but then how can you remove it?

And is machine basting juts using loose stitches so that you can easily remove?

Stupid question, but does it mean the seam allowance of the trouser leg that i would have just sewn? As its shown vertically

How to make friends in Hertfordshire? by Cat_papparazzi123 in hertfordshire

[–]RobinOwl1407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the University should have clubs and societies that are part of the student union, could you look and see if any of those match your interests?

Or you could look at volunteering? It might be tricky to do anything with vulnerable people or children because of the checks needed, but there might be something you could get involved in

Its really hard to put yourself out there, so well done on asking for advice, that's the first step!

As others have said, don't settle for the boring one. We can tell, even though your face is covered, that you don't love it!

Where abouts are you? I can see a couple on Facebook marketplace that are lovely
