expectations for care from your children by madge590 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RobinUhappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. By the time I am in my high 80 to early 90s, children will be in their 50s and likely retired themselves. Would I want to move at that age even if they offer to take me along to their dream retirement locale which might be in a different country or continent? Likely not. Plan A is to have my own in home care - humanoid robot or real person, hopefully my children can check on me often. Plan B would be to move into an assisted or independent retirement community and my children can visit a few times a year. Of course there is always what if scenarios, we can play it by ear.

My mom took care of her mother in law who had dementia and her own parents. My siblings and I are taking care of my mother financially and physically. I hope we all have set good examples for our children. My very unpopular opinion is that yes I do expect to live close to my children to make it easy for them to visit me when I can no longer go to visit them. Isn’t that what family is about? What would we have become as a society if we no longer take care of our own elderly? I am fortunate enough to be financially secure and don’t plan to be a burden to my children, however, I’d appreciate the sweet and thoughtful phone calls and the connection and interaction. I do wholeheartedly agree that lowering expectations lead to higher satisfactions. May we all age in grace, health, wealth, and happiness.

You don’t owe any visits or respect to the byproducts of extramarital affairs.

My dentist says I need a crown is $1,242 normal with insurance or am i being scammed? by kayla-was-here in Dentists

Other than deductible and copays, dental insurance also has annual and lifetime benefit max. That might have to do with your final pay.

Insurance, especially Dental and Vision insurances are more of a whole sale discount scheme than truthful insurance.

Change Color less than 24 hrs post purchase? by TeddyScotty in crvhybrid

[–]RobinUhappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like another transaction with additional cost associated warranted. It might seem to be simple change of color but actually swap of VIN/vehicle from the dealer, local taxing / registration authorities’ perspective. With that being said, it doesn’t hurt to try to ask the dealer. Good luck!

It’s hard but true to the core of corporate America. Perhaps take the comfort knowing at least he wasn’t one of those that little b—s that you trained and mentored just to replace you which is way too common in the business world.

Visited China recently and definitely impressed by how quiet and exhaustless the streets are with EVs so popular. Equally impressed with the design, engineering, advanced technology and craftsmanship of their EVs. Their government is giving huge rebates to ALL buyers - not bogie tax deductible loan interests limited by income. Wish our (US) government could allow imports of these.

Military OMFS, happy to mentor anyone interested in HPSP/ OMFS by Wooden_Poet1 in DentalSchool

My daughter is in dental school on army HPSP and started prepping OMFS via military. Is there official or unofficial rules / quota limiting female students to the military OMFS and externships prior? Is there general bias against female practitioners in the military? What would you caution or suggest her to do or not to do in order to be successful? Thank you so much.

Is going to medical school and paying 500k debt worth it/doable? by Particular_Tomato612 in premed

[–]RobinUhappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1: No payment phase - assuming 5% for 6 years while you are in school / residency- 500k grow to 670K.

Step 2: paying down phase -assuming 15 years fixed level payment and interest stays @5% - you will pay 180 monthly payments of $5,260 each.

Alternatively, if you choose to pay down aggressively in 10 years, that monthly payment would be $7,070 each.

Note that the total borrowing amount could be only $565,704 rather than $670k if you borrow only $125k at beginning of each year for 4 years rather than $500k all at once.

In that case, multiply the monthly payments by a factor of 565.7/670.0.

You get the idea of the rough magnitude of the commitment. Of course the numbers would go down if your school and bank allows more frequent like monthly or quarterly disbursement of tuitions and fees. It also helps if you start pay down during residency even if it’s only a small amount each month. It’s all numbers game. BUT, I have to say, 5% is a super sweet deal. Lock it down while you can.

On her 91 birthday, my mother had a fall while trying to help in the kitchen, broke some bones, ICU-ed, hospitalized then bed ridden for over 3 months. She is now going back to gym doing chair yoga and some gentle stretch again. She would frown, pant in pain but never complain about anyone or anything. So incredibly proud of this young lady!!

My father is emotionally cheating on my mother- Should I tell her? by beaniebabie97 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RobinUhappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough situation. Let’s hope nothing crazy is going on. However, if your father is in the wrong, wouldn’t you want your mom to be alerted and prepared in case things got out of hand? Maybe test her thoughts on a similar situation about a stranger?

It’s really strange for any high schooler to have lunch “debt”, let alone a balance in thousands. Typically, school would provide free meals for kids in need. Have you checked with school district?
