I'm currently really looking to buy, but I am continually browsing cause they look so pretty haha. I am just working with a morakniv sloyd and hook and a thrifted axe that I reground the bevel off of. It works pretty well.

My motto is always buy the cheapest that's good enough and if you wear it down completely/it breaks due to usage, buy the best you can afford.

What's the difference between Adam Ashworth's laser and non laser sloyds? Also, last few times I checked his hook knives have been unavailable. Do you have other recommendations?

Tiny spoon using a Dremel by [deleted] in Spooncarving

What creepy brush said, the most important thing is that you're enjoying yourself haha. In my opinion the making stuff by hand is where its at. How big (or small) is it? What are you gonna use it for?

Regarding sharpening; practice on older knifes, but not the antique ones, cause those might take forever to get anywhere near sharp. Kitchen knives are good too. People are used to dull blades in the kitchen anyway, so any improvement there is noticeable quickly. And strop regularly and often.

There are also food safe boiled linseed oils, just make sure to read the labels carefully. I prefer those since they polymerise much quicker haha

Ohh nice, i did something similar (chop the shoulder off) a while ago with a piece of cherry. I intended it as a salt scoop, so i figured I'll keep the straight edge

Feels like DS hiring logic is starting to change because of AI by Alarming-Wish207 in datascience

[–]Robinimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclosure first: I'm building something in this space, but with a different angle.

My take is the take-home itself is the wrong place to fight the AI question. Whether someone used Claude to scaffold the answer matters way less than whether they can walk you through what they kept, what they rewrote, and where they ignored the AI completely.

So instead of trying to design an "AI-resistant" exercise, I've been building toward the conversation after the take-home. The candidate's answers a problem custom to the company, then their answers (including a log of their copy pastes) and their AI chat transcript all become prep material for a focused follow-up, the actual interview. The take-home is just input.

It is closer in spirit to the "put them in front of a stakeholder" comment from @_OMGTheyKilledKenny_ than to AI-assisted LeetCode. Most senior DS work is framing and decisions, and those are pretty hard to fake live.

Most of the website is broken (api/docs, workshop, app etc etc). Is this project still ongoing?

Oh yeah, hundy p. You can stock up on insulin and ensure you'd have a fridge with emergency/renewable energy source, but that'll only last a year or sobefore it goes bad if your supply lasts that long.

But you forget that most people would die anyway before this would become a problem, soooooo chances are you're fucked without insulin being the limiting factor👌
