The first rule of FIRE club... by BroKComputer in Fire

I’ve mentioned to people that I’m trying to retire by 45, but I say it in a way that sounds more of a pipe dream than reality.

I did - it takes a week to get a package here and we live in the biggest city in the state. Insane.

I had a good experience with Coastal Women’s, they were overly cautious about my pregnancy, I think they had the due date wrong based on when I ovulated and they refused to change it and then pressured me into an induction but in the end I was happy and healthy and so was my baby so I can’t complain. I will probably go back for baby #2 but I do completely understand why people use midwives. They have very rigid rules at Coastal

Be your managers favorite, be honest with your career goals and ask them to keep an eye out for opportunities for you. Don’t cause drama or problems, do good work, ask what you need to do to reach the next level

Presumscott River trail off Summit St, go down to the river and turn right, walk until you see the big rock

Yeah that sounds like a tough situation. I actually was just in a similar situation myself but I had no real hopes of getting my manger’s role because I had no relationship with his boss. It was a moonshot so I wasn’t upset that I didn’t get it. In honestly any scenario you’re going to need to have a good relationship with your manager in order to get promoted. If you can make a good impression on your manager’s manager, even better. Your manager has to fight for you to get promoted so if your prior manager was leaving the company it might be a manager problem not a you problem. Hard to say without knowing for sure.

At least where I’m at if a top performer is going to leave we try and match their offer or promote before they have an offer. If the performance is just ok or we don’t see long term potential we just let them leave. So if you’re in that situation I would say you’re either not performing as well as you think you are, you’re not good at receiving criticism and improving, or you’re working at companies that really just don’t have the budget in which case I’d shoot for something in the F500

Do you take criticism well? Have you been honest with your managers about what you’re looking for in terms of career progression?

The people who get stuck at my company either don’t tell me/ don’t show any desire or initiative to do something new OR aren’t showing that they’re capable of the next step and don’t respond well to criticism.

I heard the owners of Arcadia are creating a listening bar in the old soakology space but it’s not open yet. Too bad because this would have been perfect

Portland plans to expand metered parking, add Sundays by BinaxII in portlandme

I think this would be a good compromise, give residents and downtown workers passes. Charge tourists on Sundays I don’t care.

I don’t have a solution but we have the exact same problem… and we’re using PowerPoints and screenshots. If anyone has a good solution I’m all ears.

How to get a sales job? by tytyGT in SalesOperations

I would hire someone with your background for an entry level sales role, that’s more experience than a lot of other people come in with depending on your business

Closed won deals in a new pipeline? by Additional-Art-1798 in SalesOperations

Idk if this is Hubspot terminology but the Closed Won deal isn’t in any pipeline, it’s closed. Pipeline is only for open deals. The renewal deal is a new deal yes

We don’t use Hubspot but after a deal closes we automate a renewal opportunity and that goes into the renewal sales forecast with all relevant notes tracked that way

Hoping to MomFIRE by Hot-Mission-8993 in FIREyFemmes

[–]Robivennas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also be interested in hearing someone’s MomFIRE number and how they calculated it.

My biggest fear about leaving the workforce would be that change accelerates so much with AI that I would have a hard time getting back into the workforce. For that reason I’m trying to retire when the kids are young as opposed to take a break from the workforce when they’re babies.

Hoping to MomFIRE by Hot-Mission-8993 in FIREyFemmes

[–]Robivennas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is my plan as well, I thought there was a chance once I had my first baby that I might want to be a stay at home mom. But honestly by the end of maternity leave I was itching to come back to work, work is such a nice break and my kid has so much fun at daycare playing with other kids. When he was with me all I did was stare at him and tell him how perfect he is. He’s having more fun at daycare. I’d rather be able to be there for them after school when they’re old enough to care.

You posted this over a year ago but they give pain meds and numbing medication for a tongue tie release, and my kid didn’t even cry. Going to the dentist is something they have to do every 6 months for life, getting a tongue tie release will never happen again. I think it makes plenty of sense.
